  1. Hey, don't count the Yankees out, just cuz the series is 4 to 2... I missed the whole game at a car show, just figured it would still be on , and the Yanks would be up 5 to 1. Thought for sure there would be a game 7, but Beckett is the man it appears.....
  2. Man, I just see this thread now??? They sure have put out some great cds! Some not mentioned, but worth getting someday IMO, are the 2 Dorsey brothers cds, with some of the hottest playing by the bros, plus a fair bit of Berigan, Ethel Waters, Boswell sisters, Lee Wiley, Crosby, etc (Mood Hollywood, and Harlem Lullaby) The Red Nichols "big" band of 1939/40 Wail of the Winds, is interesting....Teddy Grace , Turn on that Red Hot Heat , makes you really wish she hadn't loss the use of her vocal cords during WWll. The Harry James cd, Record Session '39-'42 has Harry at his least smaltzy, and very few vocals, really good stuff. I have meant to start a topic on the Casa Loma Orchestra, but never have. I have several of their cds from Hep, early stuff, and much hotter than one would expect from a White band in the early 30's. From The Metronome series, Buddy Rich "The Legendary '47 -48 Orchestra vol. 1 even has Buddy singing(not that well) with Ella! He actually was a good singer, something I only learned fairly recently! Looking at the list of Metronome series list, lots of good stuff I don't have yet! Edit...forgot about Rhythm Spasm , by the Mills Blue Rhythm Band! Edit, edit...now looking at B&N, and see I forgot this very interesting cd, and like Ghost said about Teddy Powell, who else is going to release a cd of Bob Zurke's? Honky Tonk Train Blues .
  3. This Hotel is just a block from a Golds Gym I work out at from time to time.... Rape suspect flees police, dies in wreck By ADD SEYMOUR JR. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Beau Christian Reed, 23 A 23-year-old career criminal identified as the man who raped and set afire a Peachtree City hotel clerk was killed Friday afternoon when he wrecked a car while being pursued by police. Beau Christian Reed of Sharpsburg was driving a stolen car at speeds topping 100 mph when he crashed on Major Road in east Coweta County while being chased by the Coweta County Sheriff's Department. Reed was ejected from the car and died at the scene. From her hospital room, the victim of Wednesday's assault positively identified Reed as her attacker, said Peachtree City Police Chief Jim Murray. Reed had a long criminal record and was wanted for arson, felony theft and eluding police and parole and probation violations. He has a previous arrest record in Peachtree City, authorities said. He worked at a Fayetteville restaurant and had just moved into a split-level house in Sharpsburg, about five miles from the motel where the woman was attacked. The crime shocked the quiet Fayette County community 35 miles south of Atlanta. The victim, who police haven't named, was bound, raped and set ablaze at the Hampton Inn front desk office just after midnight Tuesday. Police said the woman's attacker was there to rob the hotel and made off with $300. After being treated for second- and third-degree burns at Grady Memorial Hospital, the victim helped police come up with a composite drawing of her attacker. Several people who saw a sketch of the suspect called police. "Once the detectives processed the information, they were directed to a suspect who was known to have previous arrest records in Peachtree City, as well as a number of other areas," Murray said. Police called Reed on Thursday and asked him to come in for questioning. "He said, 'Sure, I can come by,'" Murray said. "When he didn't show up, detectives went to his residence. He wasn't there." Authorities said Reed instead stole his roommate's Acura Legend and fled. The roommate called the Coweta County Sheriff's Department, which figured Reed was the person Peachtree City officials were looking for. By Friday afternoon around 2 p.m., Peachtree City officials felt they had enough evidence to charge Reed with the assault. At the same time, a Coweta deputy spotted Reed at a convenience store on Fisher Road in east Coweta County, several miles from his home and the Hampton Inn. Reed jumped into the stolen car and fled as the officer followed. "It wasn't a bumper-to-bumper chase," said Coweta Sheriff Mike Yeager. "He kept him [Reed] in his sight." But as Reed reached speeds of nearly 110 mph, he lost control of the car as it turned a curve on Major Road. The car flipped, ejecting Reed into a field. He was pronounced dead at the scene. "It was unfortunate how it ended," Murray said. Murray called the victim and her family and gave them the news around 4:30 p.m. "They were upbeat and very supportive," he said. Peachtree City Mayor Steve Brown called it a great day for his town. "A victory against crime in metro Atlanta," he said. "We got the man and we're very pleased." -- Staff writers Brenden Sager and Rochelle Carter and news researcher Sharon Gaus contributed to this article. http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/metro/fay...03/25clerk.html

  5. You can't sell a soul twice in one lifetime you know....
  6. Got back to this thread a bit late, but Raqu makes some excellent points...stores are selling these items at a loss. The "clueless" clerk (every store has a few, as well as amazingly intelligent, hard working folks) makes only $6.25 in most stores, yet corporate is always looking for a way to justify cutting the hours of the full timers.(And part timers) So, enough folks use coupons in a way no one intended(DVD and cds have much less markup than books, 25% for cds and dvds, 40-45% on most books) and that guy or gal scraping by on 37 hours X $6.00 might find he only has 35 hours next week! Now, don't you feel pround you got that box set so cheap! Most likely, you could get the same price at deepdiscountcd.com ...which clearly is in the money laundering business. Hell, did you know (Sorry former, current AM's) that the harried manager you want to bitch at to get the discount, makes 21, 22 grand a year BEFORE taxes??? We had 2 AM's at the Buckhead store that couldn't afford to own a car, had to ride MARTA, (Bus) to get home at night after leaving the store at midnight, or later. I felt lucky to own a 35 year old car!!! Gave many a ride home to other managers....Oh, and even though it is a fairly big company, it is by almost any standard, a liberal company.....
  7. Yankees just know how to build the suspense up, and to truly crush fans of other teams....though it was nice to know the boss will be upset for a few days till they sweep 2 games.....
  8. Won't bore you with the story behind this car, my 1966 Dodge Monaco...had a beautiful all black interior, had it for a year, and then some dope turned in front of me, totalling the car, at least in the eyes of the insurance company!!! Couldn't buy it back either, was sold at a dealer only auction....
  9. My First car, my Grandma's 1969 Chevrolet Impala Convertible! (scanning a Polaroid from the 80's = crap image)I started driving it in 1983....Now you have to understand my Grandma couldn't drive, but she didn't let that stop her! She drove it till the day she died in 1979, at the age of 83! She missed an offramp once with my Mom's sister in the car, and BACKED UP to get back to it! Mom's sister was sure we were out to kill her by letting Grandma drive her...so my point is that it had a hard life, she ran into curbs, ALL the time, got the car wedged against the side of the garage many times, Dad had to put box springs in front of the garage wall to keep her from going thru the wall....she couldn't hear well so she always raced the engine when she got it to start....she never admitted fault to any of her many minor fender benders. Always the other guy! Why did we let her drive??? She was not one to give up anything!!!!! Bondo from the doors back, about an inch thick in places. So after she passed, Dad kept it mainly since it was a convertible, and ran like a top. So We got the front end fixed up. And I got to drive it at 16. And drove the hell out of the 350. Duel exhaust, rebuilding the carb, and that thing would keep up with most anything away from a light in the mid 80's(How times have changed, Toyota trucks would run away from it today) Put a new top on it, new interior, but never got to the body. Had two people hit me within a month, didn't even get to fix it before hit again...so it got a new bumper and fender, but that was it...even though it was a Chevy, no repo parts, no web to look for them, so I finally sold it one day when I was a bit cash strapped, kids father owned a body shop, made it a mild custom , but it looked sharp, and deserved a calmer life....I doubt any one car has been more used, and abused....(I always made sure the oil was topped off, since I got on it every single day I owned it )wonder if it is still on the road????
  10. Daniel, glad you found a new love!!!! Is the Mercedes old enough to get reproduction parts, or is it Mercedes only for the parts....are they as expensive over there(parts) as they are here in the states???? Gonna join a Car club???
  11. How many times has she been busted on drugs??? Since the kid I mean??? Years of therapy for her....edit...I don't mean she should lose the kid for life, I just think perhaps she should be with her Grandma for awhile......til Mom cleans up her act... Courtney Love 'tried to make overdose fun for Courtney Love says she tried to make her recent drugs overdose "fun" for her 11-year-old daughter. The Hole singer was arrested earlier this month after becoming violent outside a house in Los Angeles. Hours after she was released by police, she fell ill from an accidental overdose of the narcotic OxyContin. Love, 39, said her daughter Frances Bean made her green tea as they waited at their Beverly Hills home for an ambulance to arrive. "That's the only time my daughter has ever, ever, ever pitched in on one of my little crises," Love said. "I made it fun. I said it was going to be gross and I was going to have to make myself throw up but it was going to be OK," she told People magazine's November 3 edition. Days later Frances was put in the care of Cobain's mother Wendy O'Connor and a bitter custody battle has since erupted. Love said: "I'm not on some downward spiral. I'm not on narcotics. I'm fine. I just want my daughter back." In another interview, Love revealed the battle for Frances was becoming increasingly hostile. Love has enjoyed a good relationship with O'Connor since Cobain shot himself in 1994 but it soured after her arrest. http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_83171...latestheadlines

  13. We want to get a Dish of some sort We are hating the poor reception of cable, the high price, the lack of WGN, and all those damn ads touting how much better they are than satellite!!!! Can't tell much of a difference between the two, one of the two(forget which one) seems to have a few more of the premium channels if you get every channel they have to offer. What say y'all??? Any big advantage of one over the other?????

  15. Credit card issuing bastards!!! These banks are just one very slight step above loan sharks...I think....Let me badmouth Bank of America, which used to be Nations bank, then Bank South before that (I think) when I joined up....When I first joined up in the mid 90's, I was late once in the first 6 months, you know by 3-4 days. So, when I went out to Cali and went to rent a car, why they said I didn't have the money!!! They had cut my credit in half, because I was late. Of course, they had not let me know if this. I called to find this out. When I got back from the trip, I found a letter. I must be masochist, since I threatened to transfer my balance to another card many times, but never did. I would say 3 times a year they get me with a late fee.....why??? Because they made the due date on a Saturday, or Sunday!!!! That is legal???? Guess so!!!! I have had a due date like the 8th, which is a Saturday, realize that the a few days before that I can't mail in it time (I know, my bad for not mailing sooner) so I go into a branch on the 7th, pay after 2 pm. Payment that was made on the 7th, is not counted till Monday the 10th, and I know have a 35 dollar late fee! have to fight it by phone, then, as a one time courtesy, they wave the late fee! Oh, thank you so very much!!! Now, just this month, I charged $90 for business supplies, it goes thru, but then they charge their monthly finance fee a few days later, which bingo.... puts me over my limit, and I get charged an overlimit fee of $35. Wow, the Mob wishes they were this clever!

I have an Earthlink account, and a seldom used excite account...Earthlink is supposed to be blocking many emails, and If I check at their website, you see they have...but damn, I just looked at my deleted folder, and I have over 100 that have come in, in the last 24 hours!!!!!! Dated from 2002, all the way to several hours in the future, (at 10:17 Pm a great offer to buy drugs online will come in!!) My point is that on an average day, 40-50 emails to delete, now it has doubled in just the last few days!!! Anyone else notice this??? What is in the near future??? 500 emails a day...1000???? Some don't even have my email address!!! It will say Earl, or rebel...they haven't disguised it, if I click properties, it will say Earl@hsv.earthlink!!!! What the hell does the HSV mean??? 24. Guys, Steroids do damage over time, as Much as I love McGuire, he had lots of joint problems, Canseco was always injured as well.....(and of course he has admitted to steroids) but Bonds and Sosa NEVER go on the disabled list.....I have heard sportswriters mention that Barry has a personal trainer, and works out like a fiend....lets not stick an asterisk next to his numbers yet... It will be an interesting story when it all comes out....maybe, just maybe, that company put steroids in their products without the players knowing it....The Company would make a fortune once players gained muscle mass, and told all their friends, no, no drugs, just the right combo of amino acids, protein, etc, etc,etc....
