  1. I predict the Giants scoring 7 runs, and leading the Rangers 8-2 after 5...
  2. I know that Jeter is a hero to Yankee fans, after all, he is a True Yankee™, but I don't see it working having DJ at third, the karma is all wrong for that to happen. Besides, who would move into shortstop for the Yankees? Is there anyone better than a slow Jeter they can turn to? Well, Posada, everyone knows he stinks at a catcher at this point in his career, and there's not too much coming up after him. The Yankees are in deep doo-doo for next year, and I don't think they can buy them$elve$ out of this one either. Lucky for them, Tampa Bay is going to gut their team, Toronto, does anyone take them seriously? Looks like clear sailing for Boston next year, and the Yankees fighting for the wild card again. Couldn't happen to a nicer team... From what I saw, ARod, made some really good plays in the playoffs, did anyone see Jeter do anything above average at SS?(I didn't see every game) So, unless ARod is hurting, I can't see moving Jeter to 3rd. As for Montero, I just heard a few days ago he's the best hitting prospect left in the minors. Do the Yankees really want to trade him away? They need pitching, not offense. Is anyone going to trade an established starter for a 20 year old, no matter how highly touted? Though he is a catcher, which will excite teams...hmmm, straight up for Zack Greinke? Nah...Royals would want pitching... Seems like they should sign Lee and Crawford, and beg Pettitte to come back for one more year. As for Toronto....they have tons of young arms...injuries didn't help things, but if those arms develop as expected , and they hit just close to what they did in 2009, they will be real force. Shoot, any team in the division might have a chance if they catch some breaks...well, Baltimore more likely in 2012, but one never knows, does one? I was sure just a few weeks ago it was going to be the Rays or the Yankees vs. Phils.
  3. Wow! Phils did not give up. Perfect pitch just barely on the outside corner. Could have been called a ball, but hell of a game! Sure thought it was going to be the Phils-Yankees, I guess that's why they play them, eh what???
  4. Hope its been a good one!
  5. Man Dad remembers seeing that in the theaters when it first came out. Yvonne DeCarlo was so very hot in her youth... There is a nice box set with many of the films on tonight, but not Last Holiday (1950), or Horse's Mouth, (1958) so looking forward to them. Oh, I missed the one below, since it shows up on the next day of the Schedule...if you have seen the re-make only, you will really wonder how they could screw this great story up so very much. 5:00am [Crime] Ladykillers, The (1955) An eccentric bandit gang moves into a little old lady's boardinghouse to plot a major heist. Cast: Alec Guinness, Cecil Parker, Herbert Lom, Peter Sellers Dir: Alexander Mackendrick BW-91 mins, TV-G
  6. So very true. All these mets fans came over to the Atlanta paper's baseball blog a few years ago, to laugh every time the braves lost....then of course we laughed right back when the Mets collapsed in September more than once. But I wondered, did some asshole braves fans go on Mets blogs back when the Braves won each year? Or was this just a reaction to all those Braves titles? Who knows? But, now Phillies fans are showing up to mock the Braves and I just don't get kicking some other teams fans, especially when they are down. So of course more and more Braves fans HATE the Mets and the Phils, and while I sure don't like them, I can admire a good team, a hard playing team from our division. Don't want to HATE any and all teams that aren't the Braves....
  7. There is much to like about this Texas team. The manager that screwed up , tested positive for coke, but despite the pressure to fire him, the Rangers actually stuck by him. No doubt he had/has a very short rope, but he was clearly touched by them giving him another chance, and wasn't going to mess up again. It sure looked like it made the team closer to him, and Vice-versa. Then there is the CF that had about a million chances and kept blowing them. Nearly died. Got one last chance to not waste all that talent, and finally turned a corner. Seemed to have some issues with teammates on the Reds, but is loved by his teammates now, and he loves them right back. Very classy to let him join in their celebrations with ginger ale first, then he steps out for the Champagne soaking. And while most probably have never thought of Nolan Ryan as an underdog(though has any starting pitcher gotten less run support, ever?) I don't know if people thought he could make much of a difference with the mindset of the organization. I'm sure there are some other lesser known , but no less interesting stories with this team. But a truly special team for sure. Nothing like the first time a team goes deep in the playoffs. Wonderful virgin territory. Oh yeah, I rooted for the Yankees a bit in the 70's too. Reggie was a hot dog, but he delivered...

  9. As it was w/ Ruth, Gehrig... Hey, Tinker, Evers, and Chance didn't play for bottle caps! :bwallace2:
  10. I've had 3 PC's in about 15 years. All have been worked very hard. Very easy to use, and after I got rid of Windows 95 and 98, no problems at all with XP or Vista(as others mentioned here years ago, just need a lot of memory for it to work right) Vista is lightning fast. I can't think of a single reason why I would be better off with a Mac. Usually, most Mac fundamentalists talk about problems PC's had 5-10 years ago like they are still current issues.
  11. And right after I marry Jessica Beil...you will really know the world is ending!
  12. Congrats to the AL Champs, the Texas Rangers!!!!! :excited: And Big Al, you didn't Jinx it talking about the team here for the first time in ages!
  13. I think the main reason Hughes pitched game 2 was a 3.47 ERA on the road, 4.66 at home. It's funny seeing a manager called every name in the book....as I learned to realize with Bobby Cox...managers are a lot smarter with a lead. Bottom line is the Yankees have scored only 1 run in 8 off of Colby Lewis. Really hard to win with only 1 run. Hats off to Colby, clearly the game of his career!
  14. A Big Al sighting, on the baseball forum! Glad to see you didn't just give up on them before this season. They play a very exciting brand of baseball. Elvis Andrus, Neftali Feliz, Matt Harrison.... You are quite welcome!
  15. Heard the news about Melky. I can't understand it. I liked him when he was with the Yanks. Threw people out taking the extra base, a switch hitter with pop and the ability to hit in the clutch. What happened with the Braves? The NL is just a much tougher league! Actually, a few things happened. He went from a much better hitting team, to the Braves. I think anyone hits better if they don't feel the pressure to do something, when no one else is hitting. GM Frank Wren was commenting on SS Alex Gonzalez, and said he was hitting fine in August, and put too much pressure on himself when the top of the order stopped hitting in September. Melky hit only 4 homers this year. I just checked, he hit 9 of his 13 homers in Yankee stadium in 2009. He hit .268 last year batting right handed, just .233 with the Braves. He did hit well in May, June, and July. (.294, .283, .289) but only .238, and .246 in August and September. Since he only hit .249 in 2008, perhaps he just has an off year every other year. He played hard for the Braves... I don't think Terry Pendleton has really helped anyone as a hitting coach, including the Melk Man(Next year, our first base coach)
  16. See, you Giants, Phils, Rangers, and Yankees fans have it rough...all this worrying, fearing your team might not win it all. The rest of us have it made....Take this Braves fan for example. Big news here. Melky Cabrera was released. We might be able to ship Kenshin Kawakami back to Japan, and have a team there pick up half of his 6 + million dollar contract! With the saving right there, the Braves will easily be able to pay Carl Crawford 20 Mil a year for the next 6 seasons! Yep, I really feel y'alls pain!
  17. Not even close. With Halladay and Hamels locked up for the next 3 years and Oswalt for 2 they should still be a lock for the postseason. Unfortunately, I have the feeling that they are going to turn into this decade's version of the 1990's Atlanta Braves - always the bridesmaid never the bride. Howard's seen his production fall but it's not as bad as you may think. Remember he was on the DL for close to 3 weeks this season. And while his contract looks like a potential albatross in 2010 baseball economics who knows what it will look like 5 years from now? We might be saying,"Wow $25 million per for Ryan Howard? What a bargain!" Though I tend to agree with you in that the fuckwad GM in Philly probably out smarted himself on that extension. What scares me the most about Howard is that he has just not shown up in October 2009/10. WTF? The Phillies will miss Werth's right handed power bat in a lefty dominated lineup. However, they will not miss his abysmal 10 for 72 with RISP w/ 2 outs. That works out to a .138 avg. - dead last in the NL. If Domonic Brown is as good as advertised they'll miss Werth even less. I think it's way too early to say Howard is on the decline. Like you said, his numbers are down because of being on the DL, plus Utley and Rollins had very subpar seasons, giving him fewer RBI chances. Unlike say, Big Papi, Howard is in very good shape, and has made himself a decent 1st baseman. Plus, I don't think there is a leftie alive that has to face more lefties. (Quincy, quick find out for me! ) He may not have any homers , but hitting .385 against that pitching staff(.500 OBP ) if that's not showing up.... Werth, on the other hand. Quick, who has more RBI's, Werth, or Jonny Gomes??? Yep, Gomes by one RBI (86) And Gomes is tagged as a guy you can't hit righties(not really true this year) So, I don't think the Phils will miss Werth all that much, though he too has really improved as a fielder.
  18. and looking more like a moron than I usually do, I thought the game was tomorrow, thought it would just be the Phils/Giants tonight. But without even knowing the game was on, I were right!
  19. I don't trust the Yankees to roll over and die one bit...I was a little off, but in 1996, the Braves beat the Yankees at home by scores of 12-1 and 4-0. Headed to Atlanta up 2-0, then lost 4 straight. It wouldn't surprise me a bit to at least see them win the next 2 games.
  20. look at Benji's wrist on that homer!
  21. Don't listen to this man. He knows nothing.
  22. Fats Waller and James P. Johnson together!
  23. It does get better as the song progresses...I am just blown away he could play at all with one lung! Hats off to him for trying!
