I was wondering that too. I hit baseball-reference which claimed he weighed 185 (and 6'0" for those who do BMI in their head.) Uh huh, sure... Googling the story it comes up as 267. So David's picture is spot on. Several months after my Mom died, I reached (briefly) 260 and I am 6 feet. I never looked close to as big as he did a few years back...I bet he weighed 290 +

Borders Enters Chapter 11, Plans To Close 30% Of Stores
BERIGAN replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I've been worried about that for a while. I have two $20 cards, and I have been trying desperately to find them for a couple of weeks, but to no avail. Any way you might still have the original receipt??? Perhaps, only perhaps a credit card statement might work as well...but it won't have the Gift card number...it's been since 1999 since I worked at a store, but there is may be a way via the statement to find out what the trans number was, and find out if it's been used or not... from their site... What happens if I lose the gift card or it's stolen? Lost, stolen, or damaged gift cards may be canceled and replaced with a new gift card in the amount of the then-remaining balance upon proof as required by Borders, Waldenbooks, or Brentano's. -
What Eric and Dan said about Pujols....he is arguably the most feared hitter in the game today(I say arguably, but I really don't know who who would make a pitcher piss in his pants more than seeing him in the game with runners on) A-Rod has certainly improved his clutchness, but you can still get him out. Before Bonds found magic juice, the braves gently put him down without so much as a whimper during his Pirate and early giants days. Braves pitchers had no trouble with McGuire even when he was hitting 60+ a year. I don't think Sosa beat up on braves pitchers either... Pujols is just flat out scary. Even when your team get him out, it's almost always a line drive, not swinging at a pitch 2 feet outside, or shoulder level. Not that I think the Cards should pay him 30 mil for 10 years though...what is wrong with say, 30 mil for 7 years, then going on a mutual year by year deal????

Hope its a good one~!

I know a few folks here(Ghost for one) also worked for them...just sad to me. At one time, it was the best overall book store around, no one could touch the sheer number of titles, and for a chain, just crazy, obscure titles...I mean really, we carried a book on how to make your own coffin! Is that ever going to be available on an e-reader??? and is that why Borders is in such trouble??? Late to the digital book world??? (They were late to the internet, wanting to get it just right, and we all know how that worked out.... Borders Here is the list of store closings http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-20110216-708363.html

Kenneth Mars, Comedic Actor, Dies at 75
BERIGAN replied to sonnymax's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I just bought this DVD at a big lots for $3.00 last night(apparently Paramount deleted a lot of titles back in 2009, and they are starting to show up in bargain bins) At first, I thought that was Charles Grodin on the cover! Very sorry to hear this, he just about steals the show in films others mentioned, The Producers, What's Up Doc, Young Frankenstein. He was very good on Malcolm in the the Middle, this time as a kind hearted German. -
Are Woody Allen's Films Less Highly Regarded?
BERIGAN replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
very interesting to see the likes, and don't likes...actually liked Woody as a small child, liked Annie Hall then, Play it Again, Sam...go figure! Like most everyone here, really liked Radio Days, a perfect little film....forgot about Bullets Over Broadway, really a fun film. Small Time Crooks has a lot of flaws, but as others have said, Elaine May is so good in it...just checked IMDB, she has only made 10 films, such a shame! Anyone ever see her in A New Leaf??? -
2 Hour Coltrane Film - available at Blockbuster
BERIGAN replied to AllenLowe's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
It's only 89 minutes. I knew you were lying! You want to know how I knew you were lying??? Your fingers were typing...that and I knew this was a comedy, and they are rarely 2 hours long! Case closed. Robbie Coltrane was also in the Pope Must DieT...what does he have against the Catholic Church??? -
Sorry about your arm Bill! Could something like this type of product be something worth checking out??? http://askville.amazon.com/voice-activated-typing-software/AnswerViewer.do?requestId=2013848

Huffington Post bought by AOL
BERIGAN replied to Christiern's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Well, AOL only lost 782 Million last year, so I imagine profits will go thru the roof after this deal! -
Well, not yet, but no doubt soon. Though he has been running them for 20 years, but how the hell can his feet, knees, back, etc take this???? http://www.myfoxny.com/dpps/sports/world--record-365-marathons-365-days-dpgonc-20110205-jd_11748778

$20 Barnes & Noble gift card for $10
BERIGAN replied to GA Russell's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Yeah, I noticed that as well(first decent coupon from Groupon, can't figure out how that is some multibillion dollar idea ) I am comparing between amazon and B&N...of course I could use the coupon at the store level, but then again, they closed the nearest B&N to me last year, so the one that I am closed to me now, doesn't even carry cds or DVD's. And who buys books?? -
pt2, on with the embarrassment! 8)Well, not going to hazard a guess as to whom is playing, or the song title... perfect song for a cold rainy day....won't guess when it was recorded either...that will be interesting on some of these songs.... 9)Well, I'm sorry, I guess this would be me least favorite(So far, keep your fingers crossed ) Trumpeter has some interesting ideas...just can't seem to warm up to it. 10)Wait, a new least favorite! Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Bud Freeman...bet they aren't on this track! 11)I don't know if this one would be considered as Avant-garde as the previous two, and I might have had more issues with it if it was the first track, but I can take it, go ahead, laugh at me for not knowing this is Coltrane, or whomever it is. 12)Ah, MUSIC!!! late 20's to perhaps 1932 I'd guess??? Luis Russell band??? JC Higginbothem on Trombone??? Red Allen??? If it is, my idea of Avant-garde(and I know someone said he was the most avant-garde player he was hearin in the 60's) 13)Know the track, but can't think of the title...wait,Poinsettia??? like the guitar work. and the Piano.. late 40's/early 50's???? 14) Tennesse Waltz. Very nice version, but haven't a clue who is playing. Someone with a lot of heart and soul. Don't even know why, but I feel like the guy might have played the organ from time to time. 15)Oh no, not another sad song! Nope, quite the opposite. Not quite how you could catagorize it. Fun, different! Well, speaking of fun, this BFT! It really is a trip to listen to music, not knowing who, when, where, and in the case of track 10, why! :rsmile: Really enjoyed it, thanks for inviting me! Now, to remember about the next one, when it comes up... is there a BFT reminder App?? great, I don't have a phone that apps work with, but great for others...

Ok, no checking anything, or reading the comments. What to maximize my looking stoopid! Well, I did see the Ellington tune was Black and Tan Fantasy...amazing I couldn't think of the title! My piss poor guesses on tunes 1-7, hopefully I will get a chance to hear more of the BFT soon, but I remember wondering why folks hadn't already listened to mine, 2-3 hours after it was available! 1) Duke Ellington tune, that the name escapes me at this moment. Interesting, just 1 guy. Is that an alto, or is he doing something funky on a tenor?? Different mouthpiece??? Sounds a bit melancholy, but nice. 2) Herman Chittison??? Nah, a bit too modern to be him I believe. And too slow. Dodo Marmarosa? Live recording??? Late 40's I would assume. Tiny Grimes on Guitar??? Can't pick out who the trumpeter is. What I do know is I like it! 3)You like melancholy music, don't ya? Like the trumpet player(He is on a trumpet, and not a flugal horn or somethin'? ) Kinda has that slurred valve style of Rex Stewart, but don't think it's him. 50's I assume??? Man, sure is easy to psyche yourself out when you don't know who you are listening to! 4) Lee Wiley! No confusing that voice. Later in her career. Mid 50's or later. Bobby Hackett on Trumpet I assume. Think I have heard Jack Teagarden do this song....Nice! 5)Which fits nicely with this Big T tune! Never heard it before. A bit lush. Not only Teagarden, but the strings as well. Har! Almost too lush, but can't go wrong with Mr. Teagarden. Sounds very late in his career, early 60's then??? 6) I Cover the Waterfront. Finally can recall a name of a song. Don't know who is playing, but I bet I will know the name. Wow, not exactly a short tune, is it??? 7)I like everything but the horn player...unfortunately he is playing a fair bit! Well, that's not that fair...I guess I like his ideas, more than his sound. Man, I have to say this, usually I don't have to think what instrument someone is playing. I was thinking Soprano, then Alto...I really do like the bassist. The more I hear of this live track, the more I like it...perhaps because I haven't heard the sax player for awhile! Well, he came back(I assume) Liked him more, glad I stuck around for the end of the tune, a good one!

Bullpen, yeah. Big doubts. The move to acquire Manny and Damon is being perceived here, at least initially, as an effort (and a good one) to put some fannies in the seats this year, basically a transition year, while they reload for the future. Paps, I imagine you must feel MUCH better about 2011, even with Damon and Manny not being in their prime! Really don't know why they didn't sign a few decent folks for the bullpen, some guys are/were fairly affordable, and you can't win the AL East(or anywhere else) without a good bullpen....

BERIGAN replied to GA Russell's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Heh, heh, just kidding.... No email here either...I , being just a tad cynical thought, what a way to raise a ton of money with a company about to go under, and take the money to Argentina or elsewhere...then I saw no coupon this am....hmmmm . -
An amazing number of Hal Roach Shorts on Turner
BERIGAN replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
And I DVR'd every single one of 'em! And they STILL make me howl! I like this bit from the TCM page, in which Laurel explains their method, which I'd never really known before but it all makes sense after reading it: Big Al, that's very interesting! They were so much more than pie in the face comedians that I am afraid most people know them as...if they know of them at all. I have only seen some of them(put a bunch on DVD's) but there were a couple that really stood out, the one that had them living in an apartment, with a dog(that sort of thing was frowned upon then as well) and the dog started barking, and the landlord told them to get rid of the dog, or else! Of course it was the middle of winter...the looks Hardy gave the camera 4-5 times after the latest catastrophe, were just brilliant! Don't know how he could convey so much without saying a word, and give a of variation of his exasperated "look" each time...who else could do something like that??? I also loved the one where as navy guys on leave, they take a couple girls for a canoe ride(A big canoe/flat bottomed boat) in the park and by the end of the 2 reeler they are joined by what, 20+ people standing with them??? Classic!
