Great news Bruce! Paps, very sorry to hear about this, but like folks said, catching this early is what will make all the difference in the world! Best of Luck!!!

I know I would love to see Jermaine Dye in a Giants uni down the stretch. Always liked Dye, I wish he never left the A's. Hey, how about the braves trading him at the ripe ol age of 22 for Keith Lockhart and Michael Tucker. (Yes, I looked it up!) Wish the Braves had kept Adam Wainwright too. But, hey one year of that perpetual underachiever JD Drew was really worth it. Also wish we didn't trade Elvis Andrus , Neftali Feliz and, Matt Harrison for Tex either. But, hey we won so much with him the 2 seasons he was with us! Double Hey Ghost, Marty... 'splain something to me. For the parts of two seasons Tex was with the Braves, he never seemed to be quite as good as his stats looked. I think Big Al knows of what I speak! I know many people think of the Senior circuit as AAAA. Well, why was it that last year, every team would basically pitch around Chipper Jones, to face Tex, and it often worked???? Is he doing better feeling less pressure since 1-9 the lineup is so much better with the Yankees than the braves were??? He finally feels like he is paid what he's worth??? Or is he getting more breaking pitches in the AL, and loves them????

And for some reason not yet revealed, he and Posada can't get on the same page. Burnett's ERA is 1.5 points lower when someone other than Posada catches him this year. Unless they come up with an answer playoff time, they may have to DH Posada when Burnett pitches, thus benching Matsui. Very risky if they don't carry a 3rd string catcher on the post season roster. Burnett clearly has some issues. Seemed like he was cussing out Felix Pie after he homered, and the guy was running hard out of the box...Kruk said Joe Girardi may have to call the pitches...Posada didn't just forget how to call a game....

I wonder if it's the name or the scent that's making this one popular. If you think it could be the former, you might consider renaming some of your other candles as a marketing strategy. Either way, good luck to you. I've been following this thread for so long, I almost feel like I've purchased a couple of your candles. Up over and out. He's right about that! And what about ebay, have you tried putting up any???

No one has made it this year without going on the DL, that was supposed to be a starter, correct??? Or has Castillo managed to not go on the DL???? Well, just checked, doesn't look like he, or Daniel Murphy have been on the DL. That's it. And say what you want about Francoeur's hitting style, he plays hurt, but he now has torn ligaments in his left thumb. He's going to try to play through it.... If Santana has something worse than say bone spurs, someone has been really stupid in the way he has been handled. Manuel said he hasn't been throwing between starts since the All star break. Well, they should have found out what was wrong then. What was the point of him pitching in meaningless games, so if he has Tommy John, he can only come back next year in September???? Doesn't it make you wonder why just about every pitcher seems to have Tommy John now??? Steroid issue??? Splitters??? Not that I ever heard of Santana throwing them.

I think Barry Zito's ERA going from sub 4 in the AL to above 4 in the NL West clearly shows the NL west is the toughest division in baseball! He does have a 2.37 ERA in the last 7 games....

You know, it's sad that there seem to be no jazz fans that are Billionaires, or even mere multi-Millionaires. there is always someone ready to buy a sports team that's on the market. Have to be a billionaire to own a baseball team.

I know the offense issues started before the Braves came to town, but the braves have some starting pitching. It could be argued, they have the best 1-5 in the game. Kawakami is basically the 5th starter,(And paid more like a 2nd or 3rd) but when he's against a big opponent, say Halladay, the Red Sox, or against the Dodgers, he has been huge! Funny, for a Japanese pitcher, I would have expected more consistency, but he needs challenges. I wouldn't mind a bit IF the braves made the playoffs, for him to start game one. Derek Lowe is paid as a number one, but is more of a number 4 of late. But his 4.15, while the worst of all the starters, is not really that bad. But it seems like his sinker was crisper the first month and a half of the season. Tommy Hanson. Our 4th or 5th starter. While he has come down to earth a bit of late, a 6-2 record and a 3.22 ERA in your first year is nothing to sneeze at! He has gone at least 5 innings every time out. He is simply not pitching like a 22 year old. Check out Maddux, Glavine, or Smoltz first year or two and see how truly bad they were! Now for the 2 best starters. Jair Jurrjens. Who??? I know, many here probably don't know the name. He simply gets no run support. 9-8 with a 3.08 ERA. 13-10 last year, with a 3.68 ERA. And he was born in 1986, like Hanson! Gee, think the Tigers ever regret handing him over in the Edgar Renteria trade??? Even Lowe said early in the year after he pitched, well we have our best pitcher going tomorrow, talking about Jurrjens. Could have been trying to boost the kids confidence. Could have been just telling it the way it is. But the guy with the best ERA??? Pitched the most innings??? Who has the 2nd most strikeouts in the NL??? Javier Vazquez! I can tell you, I was NOT happy about getting him this spring. Career ERA over 4. Check out his year by year ERA from 2004. 2004- 4.91. 2005(in the NL by the way) 4.42. 2006-4.84. 2007-3.74. 2008-4.67. We traded Tyler Flowers, a guy that in the spring of 2008 was hitting balls much further than anyone else. We gave him up for some hack, who wilted when called out by his manager to step up his game. Then he pitched in the WC this spring. I figured he was a likely candidate for Tommy John. Instead, 10-7(should be about 14-3) 2.90 era, 155 innings, 171 strike outs! And a month ago, many braves fans, including me, were all for trading him to get the illusive big bopper. Well, right now...we are glad he is still on the club! I don't know if it's having a manager that actually respects him, or being closer to family in Puerto Rico (Heard that was an issue in Arizona) but he has been gold, and at the age of 33 is having his career year. Go figure.

Clearly, the Yanks-Sox game was the game last night(It ended late, and the half hour baseball tonight they re-run at 3 am only had highlights up to the 14th) but the Mariners game has to make that team feel great. Langerhans was supposed to be a big part of the Braves offense for years to come, and had one of the worst starts ever in 2007(.068 in 44 abs)...glad to see him as the hero. And braves, after being royally screwed by a dope of an ump(McCann made the best throw he ever made in his life to get Furcal at 2nd, but the ump called a strike a strike, but apparently really meant ball 4 so it was 1st and 2nd, and Casey Blake hit a 3 run homer) came back against Broxton to tie it up in the 9th, and won the game 9-5 in the 11th! West coast games suck, because espn is basically off the air after 2 am.

Congrats!!! What a great photo!

Oh fuck!!!! That's beyond sick! I bet the babies have nightmares for months.... Who thought this shit up??? It sure as hell wasn't the mothers. What does that do to their soft heads, do they suffer minor concussions???
-
Have you heard any Sox fans bitch about signing everyone and their brother this spring??? With Buchholz now 25, it seems in retrospect, he should have been given a job out of spring training. At some point, you have to trust your minor league guys, and leave folks like Penny and Smoltz for later on down the road.... Anyone figure out what is up with Smoltz??? Players don't often come back from Labrum issues. He throws 93 still, but no control of offspeed pitches, which he could always do, even when his arm was about to fall off...just strange.

I didn't listen - was there any indication that Gregg is finished as closer and Marmol has taken over, or was Piniella giving Gregg the night off? That guy has to be the worst closer on any playoff contending team. He's proof that you can "close" and amass save statistics while sucking raw eggs. It was a terrible trade but I blame Piniella for not realizing that Gregg sucks and getting him out of that role. They could easily be in first with any sort of decent closer, and even if they make the playoffs I can't see them winning if Gregg has to get key outs in the ninth. Gregg is weird, I saw him pitch great, lots of movement, during the past week, then sucked against his old team. Marmol though...He seems to have control issues at the worst time.

Not known for fighting or biting. I you! In a completely non creepy way. Man, I remember a few times looking for his card, and never found it!
-
Well, as a braves fan, I ain't exactly happy about the trade either. Kotchman was finally showing a bit of pop of late. 6 homers is pathetic, but the last 2 he had hit were really monsters, looked like he was finally starting to turn on pitches, instead of just going the other way all the time. He's only 26. Now he's a bench player, at least for 2 months. LaRoche has had a terrible year, but has a bit more power. But, he's a free agent at the end of the year. Perhaps the braves would go with a 20 year old rookie next year(Freddie Freeman) but not likely. Sigh...not the big bat move braves fans were hoping for. And did you guys hear about this asshole umpire???? http://www.ajc.com/sports/atlanta-braves/c...ver-104780.html

Quincy, this talk must bore the crap out of everyone but us! hey, remember Mike Tyson????
-
Ahh, thanks for retrosheet again Quincy. I can't ever remember that site, no matter how many times you have mentioned it in the past...but, I can recall within 3 points what Kenny Reitz was hitting one season when I was 13! 1980, at the beginning of June, he was hitting .373!!! And if my math is right, he only hit .224 the rest of the year!!!! How do you do that??? Is that some kind of weird record??? Hitting .149 points lower than you did the first 2 months of the season??? Or worst ba after having the highest batting average the first two months?? can you look into that as well??? And how do you play in 151 games, and only have 523 AB's even though you only walked 22 times the whole season??? He wasn't taken out for defensive purposes. Did offenses just suck that much??? Gee, some .300 hitters that year...no one even had 600 AB's. Barry Bonds struck out more than anyone else on that team, and that was only 74 times....different times for sure. And bringing up Pete Gray, bad Quincy!
