  1. Nice pics! The beauty of Carlton & Rose is that their styles are very recognizable. Aside from being a nice guy Tito was a regular Mr. October in his 50 plate appearances. He made a friend of mine from Chicago cry when his 10th inning home run for the O's (which broke a scoreless game) finished off the ChiSox. I'm guessing you took the picture of Falcone as the Cards had him for awhile as they got him from the Giants for Reitz. Or perhaps you looked into the future and knew you'd be a Braves fan. He was around at the park as the Mets also played their spring training games in St. Pete during those years (note the home uni pinstripes.) A bit of Cardinal spring training trivia for ya. During WWII (1943-45 to be specific) the Cards held spring training at Cairo, Illinois. Speaking of Rose there's a rumor that baseball may make him eligible for HoF voting. Aaron and other Hall of Famers met with Selig concerning the topic. As far as I know most guys who played during his era are okay with it. Schmidt has long been an advocate but to have Aaron on board is big. The steroid stuff probably helps Rose's cause. The timing of it has to do with the 20th anniversary of Rose being banned for life approaching. No guarantee that he'd be voted in, and I think the surviving HoF-ers have to vote on it too. Bob Feller won't be pleased. Quincy, I kept seeing the next page, didn't think anyone had commented on this! You are right, For anyone over say 35, I bet I didn't even have to mention Rose or Carlton's name under the photos! Rose has made some huge mistakes in the past, but if some asshole like Cap Anson is in there, Rose sure should be. Just do it and be done with it... A mention of Kenny Reitz, aka the Zamboni machine! Slowest player...ever??? Always liked him...he used to just tear the cover off the ball early in the year, then hit about .220 after the all star break. I could swear one year he was leading the league in hitting around June 1st, say .370...then sucked the rest of the year. bet you could find his stats early in each season! Did not know that about Cairo Ill! Must have been to save fuel I guess??? Wonder how many arms were ruined trying to warm up on a 35 degree day in March!
  2. Can't find anything about it on mlbtraderumors.com but on the braves telecast they mention a rumor of the marlins (Who the braves are playing tonight) are possibly going to trade for Adrian Gonzalez and Heath Bell for Mike Stanton(Gee, is he still pitching??? ) and some other prospects!
  3. :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P Can you know say the same thing about the Braves W.C. chances????Thanks!
  4. I had to double check, the Red Sox are still in the W.C. lead, right??? Papelbon is 25 for 28 in saves...not exactly horrible. I know, he makes it too interesting in the 9th...oh well. Steve Berthiaume is like most other red sox fans. Waaay too tense about the team. He was going on and on the other day about Papelbon, and everyone else on the baseball tonight panel was basically saying, but he got out of the jam, no runs scored, whats with all the anger??? Brad, Mets and Braves fans I think share the same feeling right now...Fun/interesting. The Phils have the east all but won. The W.C. is a bit more possible, but still.... I'd love to see Jason Heyward and Freddie Freeman given 2 months to get their feet wet, but in typical braves fashion, they won't realize they are out of the race till they are officially eliminated. Then we will hear how my goodness, you would have to put them on the 40 man roster...can't do that! They will play in Arizona instructional league, then we will have them waste half a year in AAA so like Hanson we can start their arbitration clock late, and save some money. Well, they might not mention the last part, but that's what they mean. Glad to see Mariner fans still having something to root for in August! Jack Wilson is one of the best SS in the game, did the pirates get anything of value??? Besides Ronny Cedeno?
  5. Interesting that Franceour is hitting, and hitting with some pop with the Mets. It shows just how poor a hitting coach Terry Pendleton is.
  6. Yowsa! And to think they were looking to trade him. He's thrown a "regular" no-hitter before as well so he's in some interesting company. Like Steve Busby. (No perfect for Steve, but 2 no hitters.) Hey, why no love for Bob Forsch??? He had 2 no-no's and he didn't exactly have Nolan Ryan's fastball either! ...and a great catch by center fielder DeWayne Wise in the 9th inning to save a hit/homerun.... he had just entered the game for defensive purposes...what a catch! m My favorite highlight from yesterday(Well, next to the catch itself) was the reaction of the Phillies clubhouse after the catch...cameraman caught them hopping, and hollering, so excited, very cool! Hope you can get still get tickets this late! ...loved Bob Forsch back in the day! Probably saw him pitch a dozen times. m One more Bob Forsch story...my Late Mother and I went to a spring training game between the Phils and Cards in 1981, and got to meet a few players on the field(it was photograph day, but Dane Iorg, my then fav player wouldn't sign a ball, so he stopped being someone rooted for) my Mom took one look at the 6 foot 4 pitcher, and fell in love! I could see women going for him. A nice guy. Met Jack Buck, and he couldn't have been nicer. The nicest player there was another 4th outfielder like Iorg, Tito Landrum. Only instead of saying it was photograph day only kid, he signed my autograph, and I think he thanked me before I could thank him! Needless to say, he became my favorite underdog on the team. Here is a picture of him and a 14 year old berigan off to his left. I think I still have that cap, somewheres. Here is Steve Carlton on the mound. And Pete Rose at the plate. And a photo of Pete Falcone for some reason( the mets shared spring training facilities with the Cards...I think? Quincy will know1 )

  8. I was so mad at the braves when they traded him after hitting 32 Homers, for Mike Gonzalez, but you know...it was the right trade. He is very hard to figure, a very pretty left handed swing, but its a very Loooong swing. He was one of the more vocal Pirate players about the near dismantling of the team(when Freddy Sanchez and Jack Wilson are traded, then it will be complete) And while they have gotten some talent...and made room for players like McCutchen (sp?) I wonder with their pitching, if they had Bay and Nady(well, I guess his elbow blows out no matter what) would they be in the hunt in the NL central this year??? Everyone said they had to trade them away last year. Anyway, will be interesting to see if LaRoche will hit like he normally does in the 2nd half(Instead of the .109 average for July this year) or not. He hasn't been in the playoff hunt since 2005....
  9. Jonathan Sanchez just threw the first no hitter of the year!!! He is only starting because Randy Johnson went on the DL. Padres were no hit for what, 7 innings last night, then no hit tonight??? Weak offense. Still a great accomplishment. Getting Adrian Gonzalez 4 times is impressive enough.
  10. Aggie, those pictures are so fake, nothing looks like that in the real world! Seriously, nice photos!
  11. I love feel good stories like this! The thug should have gotten more time in jail, having a knife and attempting to use it.
  12. Rumors of Yunel Escobar on the trading block. Red Sox fans, he has a bad attitude, is great on great plays, so so on average plays, and has a swing made for Fenway. Any interest??? If so, what would you trade???
  13. It seems like even the dim bulb inside of Cox's brain has finally figured out that Prado should be at 2nd base over Kelly Johnson. Johnson hit. 398 last September, and Cox has given him all season to get back on track...but he said Prado is the starting 2nd baseman now. Now JH, it's just because all the teams in the NL Least are so darned good that no team (til last night) had 40 wins! what is up with JRoll??? He is way too good to be scuffling like this! He is making Frenchy look patient right now. Anyone have any ideas as to why???
  14. Clearly, we are just a bunch of frustrated criminals....if you unplug your DSL for a few seconds, and plug it back in, you can vote even more often.
  15. Do you mean peeps??? Voted for. We have our work cut out for us to catch up to facebook!
  16. You know, I remember him having a few "specials" and some impressions were dead on, some, like you say, shaky at best. Rich Little could get waist deep in the cheese at times, but he was truly a master of impressions. What the hell ever happened to him???? R.I.P. Fred Travalena.
  17. And once again, if anyone thinks Dan is more vitriolic than your typical Sox fan, read on McDuff... http://sonsofsamhorn.net/index.php?showtopic=46596&st=60
  18. Dan, the braves are not crappy! They can't hit, that's all. Or Field. Also, they have a brain dead manager, and hitting coach. Ok, the team is pretty crappy except in one area, pitching. 5th best ERA in the Majors. Jair Jurrjens and Javier Vazquez are 7th and 8th in NL ERA, and both have sub .500 records to show for it. Rafael Soriano and Mike Gonzalez are as good if not better than anyone's 8th and 9th inning guys. Dan, you sound like your brothers on Sons of Sam Horn. Yeah, Hanson has barely shown anything to justify the hype. Except beat the Yankees and Red Sox in back to back games. Didn't allow a run to either team either. In his last 3 starts(17 innings) he has allowed 9 hits. In fact, he hasn't allowed one FUCKING run in his last 20 innings! I can't wait to see him show something to justify the hype! Oh yeah, and he held the Sox to 2 hits, while battling the FUCKING flu!!! "I told Kris (Medlen) he'd better be ready to pitch," Hanson said. "I felt horrible waking up this morning. Driving to field, I didn't feel good at all. But once I got going, got my blood flowing, I felt a lot better." So, he had the Flu and beat the Sox on a day it was 100 FUCKING degrees as well! How the FUCK did the FUCKER do that??? (Say, now I know why you type Fuck so often, its FUCKING cathartic! ) Can't win every game Dan. Winning every series will just have to suffice! There were several early series this year the FUCKING braves should have swept, but that was different, the teams they were playing were really crappy!
  19. I guess it's the Marlin's year, eh what??? Though you do sound like a Red Sox fan right about now! Losing at home is terrible, having only 2 starters as well sucks...but, Mets wish they had duct tape and bailing wire holding them together. The Braves...well, they have 2 singles hitters in the outfield, that don't hit for much average either. Our top Home Run and RBI guy continues to bat leadoff, cuz he has some speed! Our 2nd baseman has forgotten how to hit. Our SS makes mental errors every single game. But, we have very good starting pitching, and a 1-2 punch in the 8th and 9th. All offset by the dumbest manager in the game. I still think when Lidge and Ibanez (I think he is a big reason you have sucked so much of late) get back, you will see a turnaround. Didn't you guys have a period of suckiness like this last year, around this time????
  20. Think of all the money someone is going to make as people download songs/whole albums, and buy cds. You just KNOW his family is going to fight over the money, the 3 kids, etc, etc, etc...I read somewhere the funeral will likely be bigger than Princess Diana, or the Popes. I hate him for what he did to those kids, but I also wonder if his Father died of a heart attack, say in 1968, would he still have been a child molester???? A good story on just how fucked up his childhood, and his life was... Michael Jackson's celebrity suicide
  21. Hope you have a great one!!!!
  22. Gee, I just assumed everyone here would say they loved him, how he's a true genius. Glad to see that's not true! He does have an amazing ability to stay in character, but I have never so much as cracked a smile at anything he has done. I imagine Andy Kaufman was a hero of his, but he's no Andy Kaufman. He's still alive for one thing....
  23. I won't argue that Kawakami is anything other than half-way decent, but Ricky Nolasco was predicted to win the Cy Young this year by Gammons. Got off to a terrible start, sent to the minors, but has a 2.50 ERA for June. Some days it feels like he passed around 1998....
  24. You know, I hate to even mention this out loud, but the Mariner ownership digs Japanese players, and has some pitchers/players it's willing to give up, so maybe.... You can absolutely fucking have him. If you want to give up some semi-warm bodies and pay his salary, fine. If you don't want to pay his salary, give up a couple of slightly warmer bodies. I don't fucking care. I am more interested in seeing Junichi Tazawa in a Boston uniform than this piece of living shit. The kid has made 13 starts, pitched to a 3.15 ERA in AA ball, a WHIP of 1.164 and a 3 to 1 strikeout to walk ratio. He can actually throw a fucking strike regularly. They've set it up so that Smoltz pitches in this asshole's spot and made no reference to the asshole's next start. So at least there is hope that the talk about a six man rotation was dependent on the asshole actually pitching as he is supposedly capable, and not an absolute intent to keep all six. So I am optimistic that they will make a fucking move soon, one way or the other. After checking some comments on sonsofsamhorn.net site, Dan's comments are downright mild! I missed my chance to look super smart before the series started and say I the Sox were going to sweep the Braves. I was figuring 2 blowouts then with Jurrjens on the mound Sunday, a 2-1 loss. Man, Dice-K (Dick-K, Dan?) really sucks. And we let him off the hook in the first. Only the braves could have the bases loaded, with no outs, and not score any more runs. Kenshin Kawakami has something like a 3.15 ERA when pitching with 5 days rest. Also pitched great against Roy Halladay. Any numbers like that for Dice-K??? And do you guys see how dumb Bobby Cox is??? Mike Gonzalez pitched against the reds yesterday, pitched tonight as well. Soriano pitched both games as well. What the hell do the braves do if they somehow have lead in the next two games??? We have 2 guys who can close, they both have been used in blowout wins on back to back nights. Brilliant he is...
  25. Dan, if nothing else, you could try a program like http://getright.com/ to continue a paused download. I am strictly a layperson with computers also, but I do know I have read through the years, that once you get down to 20% or less of space left on a harddrive you will have problems. You have XP?? Half a gig, wouldn't be enough for Vista. You can just burn stuff on discs too, cheaper than another external harddrive.
