  1. Just to be clear, a standalone DVD recorder. Since I have had 2 JVC DVD recorder combos go bad this year, I need to find something else(Supposedly I will get a check from the warranty company for the one I took in, back in July) Anyway, I started checking out whats available that isn't JVC,(Of course there are not that many companies, and many just change the name on the recorder) and I am seeing many recorders come sans Tuner! Ok.... Last Christmas, after much searching, got a DVD recorder for the living room(that one died a few years back-never had a DVD recorder last more than 2 years) This one without a VHS player, since we still had one of those(Heck, was using the Super Beta as a Tuner, but it was causing sound issues on my Dad's honking 1950's JBL's) Anyway, wanted a Tuner to bypass the beta, and still have lots of inputs and outputs to hook everything up via it. Read good things about the Toshiba, and knock wood, it's been just fine. So....to replace one of the JVCs thought I would get a combo unit from them. Then the Tunerless issue comes up again. I'm thinking, well I don't have amps and pre amps, Betas, switchers to worry about in my Bedroom....Just a TV. do I even need a tuner since we have satellite ???? Read some reviews of people getting a DVD recorder with a tuner since their TV was Tunerless! Then I see on the description of one unit Toshiba has. Toshiba D-R410 DVD±RW Recorder! This black DVD recorder supports recording and playback of DVD±R and DVD±RW discs with the ability to upconvert resolution up to 1080p via the HDMI connection. Turn on the selective progressive scan mode for higher image resolution and less image flickering during playback, too. With an external TV tuner (not included), you can even record TV programs from your cable box or satellite receiver. So....I would be buying a recorder that without that external TV tuner, and wouldn't be able to you know, record anything except old VHS tapes???? Really???? I am purely a layperson when it comes to this stuff. I will figure crap it out, eventually....as to how to make things work in conjunction with each other, but this sounds different to me . I did figure out that unlike what the dope DISH hired to set everything up 5 years ago, that you could have a recorder hooked up to record off air programming(Honest, the guy acted like you couldn't!) To add to the confusion, the DISH DVR unit that provides my signal is in another bedroom, the signal is just split off to my room. Even if it was to put the recorder in the other room, would I be able to record programs off the outputs of it??? It has its own tuner, right??? Damn, why don't they just put tuners in every unit???? Thanks for any suggestions!
  2. Hope you keep doing better! Sounds terrible! Yeah, I imagine sex would be painful right now, and JSngry is no lightweight!
  3. Cuz girls don't like Jazz! Wait, you are a girl??? There aren't really any here, are there??? Just a few guys that pretend to be girls???
  4. BB, and Mellow...I sold more cds , not Lps on ebay. LP buyers are MUCH More picky than probably any other collector, save book collectors. But, from what I have seen on ebay, folks that undergrade a bit seem to have much less trouble. Lots of pictures obviously help. And BB, I wouldn't look at putting up the whole collection at once. Just a few at a time. What usually happens is as more people see you put up stuff consistently, the more they check out, bid, etc. I saw a guy selling cds for the first time. He started everything at 99 cents. Well, I got a few deals at 3-4 bucks, then everyone and their brother found his stuff(His brother had died, and had thousands of cds)and it was all going for $10 and more. So, my "expert" advice would be put up 10 LPs a week, and see what happens. Mention how many LPs you have as well, that will get them drooling!
  5. Sorry. Man, if you ever find it, let us know! I did buy a cd of an interview of Helvetia Boswell she did in the late 70's(I think) Can't seem to find that online right now.
  6. If you like those, she rarely made a bad record. I even like the Hawaiian stuff few others like. She didn't even like them! Some of the best cds appear to be out of print(Such a shame the Sensation series only put out 3 cds) But, I see some small label cds that have come out in the past year, with tracks I've never heard. Yea, for small miracles! Hopefully, the thousands of Hanshaw fans are still checking out this thread. Something I found on youtube a month ago, there are 2 versions of I Have to Have You. Here is the version I have heard on CD, which sounds over filtered here. I Have to Have You The one I just found out about, anyone ever hear this one before??? I Have to Have You, version 2 She had such an interesting voice to me. She really could change it for each recording(I don't mean the Helen Kane sounding stuff) She could darken it, for the want of a better word. Not the somewhat silly singing with a tear in her eye sound Ruth Etting used...Needless to say, I wish she had desired singing beyond the mid 30s. IIRC, she actually sang on radio after she stopped recording, and was much more popular than you would think at the end of her performing days. If you like those, she rarely made a bad record. 10. Three military guys going on a shooting rampage together? Well, this may or may not explain it.... 12 Soldiers Killed and 31 Wounded in Fort Hood ShootingSuspected Gunman Is Identified by ABC News as Major Malik Nadal Hasan i don't mean to offend, but after a comment like this, this thread should get moved to Politics & Religion. Why????

  14. Man, the stuff you stumble upon, on Youtube!!!! Supposedly from 1950, about 15 years after she retired!!! I am sure at least 2-3 people will find this interesting.
  15. My answer to everything...have you tried system restore??? I don't have an external harddrive though, so needless to say, never tried it for this problem. At least you can just grab it and take to a computer shop to check out, easier than the whole computer, right??
  16. Its a little over 80 minutes. I assume it was made for TCM, so since it was in a 2 hour slot, why not more complete clips??? Some really amazing clips from TV shows, some that looked surprisingly good, like they were shot of Film. I'd love to see more of that 1959 color program, with Ellington and Ella! And John Williams and Eastwood talking over themselves...could have edited that out as well. That, and the footage with Eastwoods very young daughter singing. I feel very dirty saying this, but she's going to be quite the looker when she grows up. Can't really sing though. At least not yet. But, all my bitching aside, a very interesting bio. Can it really be he collaborated with over 200 songwriters???? And why is it, we all know that he wrote the lyrics to this song and that song, but not who wrote the music to those songs????? Without looking it up, who wrote the music to Fools Rush In, or Too Marvelous for Words????
  17. Meant to mention this before....forgot...sue me! EST. The Fleets In has Jimmy Dorsey's band. They used to run it many years ago on AMC. http://www.imagebam.com
  18. so ummm, errr, welcome umm, boobies...I mean whoever you are.
  19. Man, will Utley be pitched to in NY Weds??? I sure hope so! Mr. November.
  20. You could always move to Arizona - no DLS there. Isn't there someplace in Indiana where they also don't change? America gets weirder and weirder! Well, I just had to look at a map, didn't I? http://www.worldtimezone.com/time-usa12.php So there's a small part of Arizona (a small part!!!) that is the same as the rest of its time zone and changes twice a year, and the rest stays the same twice a year. But inside that small part, there's another part that doesn't change. And there's a part of Indiana (the bit by Chicago) that has decided it'll follow Chicago and not the rest of the state (not entirely unreasonable, I guess) - but that does appear to change in conformity with Chicago. MG Hawaii doesn't participate either! Canada, being our hat, does whatever we tell them to do! I want double DST like during WW2!
  21. I spelled out TCM since I can't find that old thread that was here for upcoming TCM Films. Hate that 3 letter search rule. Anyway, lots of Boris Karloff films today. The one on now, a Columbia picture from 1935, The Black Room, just looks amazing! Like it was a B&W film made last year! Today's films The Walking Dead, on at 11:15 AM EST is really an interesting film with Karloff in a powerful role. Tomorrow, along with a few Val Lewton films, they are showing Murder's at the Zoo, which is supposed to be a quite chilling Pre Code Horror film It's on at 10 PM EST. Followed by the best Karloff role, IMO, The Body Snatcher, at 11:15 PM. At least a little more heads up than my usual, check out TCM now! Tomorrow's schedule.
  22. I wish it was daylight savings time year round. Screw morning people!
  23. Have a great one Chris! Isn't it about time for you to treat yourself and buy a Riviera, or perhaps an....
