I'm willing to take that chance just to dump Silva. He had no place on this team and would have just sat on the DL all year with some fake injury just like he did last year. He's horrible. Once again, GMZ weaves his magic and turns a piece of shit into a chance at something better. With lots of potential and little down side. If it don't work out the M's can just cut him. It would be less that having Silva. Yeah, it can't really hurt to try Bradley, can it??? He seems to be able to play in one city for one year, Chicago excluded. If he hits like he did in 2008, it will be a great deal for Seattle.

And did you see that the name of the show is "Dong News"? Missed that!

Glad you had a great one....I hope, if say you ever have quite a few too many one night, and you decide to say out loud, "pontificationisticismationate without polyesticating the alorameters of the gejuvenicational congliviality." That someone has a camcorder rolling!

So, where'd she move, anyway??? -
Hope Johnny , Quincy, and all the other Mariners fans here have taken their heart meds! They are the team to beat, it looks like! Can't believe how much the Angels have screwed up this off season. Losing Figgins, now Lackey. What is their thinking, if they have any thinking???? Might work out for the Braves though. Wren overpaid for Lowe last year, and has 3 years left on his contract, (15 Mil a year) 4.67 ERA last year. and is or will be 37. But, the Angels are in a fix for a starter of some stature. Now someone else will get stuck with our mistake!

Well, as usual, our GM figured on getting a ton of 1st round picks, and was wrong. Not all of his fault of course.... Rays got a very good closer(His fastball is a bit straight and will go through a 1-2 week period each year of giving up homers) for next to nothing. Braves refuse to pay a nickel of anyone's contract...too good for it. So they get next to nothing for one of the better closers. Your team will be much better because of him! Just don't expect him to be chatty. Our beat writer was a bit afraid of him in fact!

Man, the Tigers are a stoopid organization. Kept Mags last year, allowed him to get enough A.B's to get....well, he "earned" 18 mil last year for 50 RBI's, I guess he will get that much this upcoming year. So, now they have to cut costs, and traded a 28 year old Center fielder and a flame throwing 26 year old Starter for some young guys that have never proven themselves. Congrats! And thanks again for Trading the Braves Jair Jurrjens for crap. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/12/gran...-to-dbacks.html

Interesting but obscure children's books

Next to the Cat in the Hat books, the one I remember most vividly was Lamont the Lonely Monster. Anyone remember this book??? Seems I will have to pay a lot if I ever want a copy again! A review of it, if it rings any bells. -
New Sherlock Holmes movie
BERIGAN replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I wish they had written Nigel Bruce to be smarter, but I think the films are very clever. Someday I need to give the Jeremy Brett Holmes more of a chance...I just hate the washed out colors in the show. He ends up looking like death warmed over. Perhaps I need to watch them with the color off. Geez, just looked him up, no wonder he didn't look well in those later shows, poor guy! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremy_Brett#...esses_and_death -

Soulstation1's Candle Business
BERIGAN replied to Soulstation1's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Hey SS, a couple of ideas I just had....one, I am really seeing some cheap digital cameras. Don't know the quality, but I have seen some at stores like Big Lots for $30, $40. I assume they have those removable picture cards. Might find someone selling them even cheaper on ebay. Of course shipping might bring it up or above discount store prices. Also, don't know why I didn't think of this before, but why not try a blog??? A blog with photos of each candle might drive more interest. Pictures of each candle could only help sales. This isn't the best one for an example, he's not selling anything, but he has had 2 million hits. http://starletshowcase.blogspot.com/ -
Great news Tom! I was going to mention(and forgot to) that I have issues with coughing long after a cold/flu goes away. And I go above and beyond the normal effort to get rid of the junk in my sinuses and lungs...and really doesn't solve the problem. And it really makes it hard to get to sleep when this is going on. Anyway, one time I went to the doctors office, he wasn't in that day. A P.A. looked at my throat, said yeah, had a lot of drainage. I said, really??? I don't notice that feeling at all. She said it was just much thicker, and you can't really feel it. Oh....So, instead of taking stuff to cough up my lungs, like I always have, I took Maxifed which helps dry stuff up. Really worked like a charm. Had samples, and next time I got sick, took that, and it really shortened the lingering cough from the typcial 3-6 weeks, to just a week after I got over the cold. Sure seemed counter everything I was told to do, and had done in the past. Maxifed did what over the counter stuff never really did either...anyway, if the cough lingers, you might ask for that pill and see if it works.

Johnny Mercer Documentary on TCM tonight
BERIGAN replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Ever hear of satellite??? Or don't they offer that in flyover country? actually, it pisses me off that TCM is not part of basic programming any more. Even less people will get a chance to watch older films. -

Anyone here ever purchase a Tunerless DVD recorder???
BERIGAN replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Well, I record a lot of older films off Turner Classic Movies. Then I transfer them from the Satelite DVR to a DVD disc. The way hard drives fail, I would hate to trust them with movies that run only every 3-4 years if that. Does it take as long to copy a movie from the PC that way as it does to just burn a film from a disc??? Seems to take 60-90 minutes for me, and that's with a 1 year old computer, that's doing nothing else at the time! -
Not sure if this is a good example to praise Blu-ray: Check out this site then. An extremely through review, with 5 different format comparisons, and huge images. http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/dvdcompare/wizard.htm Edit. Man, they screwed up a few of the Oz captures, doesn't it??? Things look more "correct" on the Gone With The Wind review, I saw a few days back. http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDCompare6/...withthewind.htm But, now that we can see Vivian Lee's acne, do we really need to???

What a pussy. But seriously, I used to dread that scene at her castle when Dorothy looks into the crystal ball, and... oh, never mind- I'm afraid to think about it. I still find it weird to watch the film on vhs or dvd or whatever- in any form where I'm choosing when to watch it. I grew up watching the annual tv airing with the neighborhood kids and the popcorn and Danny Kaye hosting. We didn't get to CHOOSE when to watch it, and we LIKED IT that way! These kids today... I saw a story a few years back a story on the film, and how a Mom who had dozens of childrens videos for her little daughter, but kept the Wizard of Oz away, and still made it a special deal for the child to watch it.
