  1. I've seen no reference to that. Maybe not. Right, from what I've read it was masters from the MCA side of things (Decca, Argo etc.) that perished, not former Polygram holdings like Verve. I was surprised when I once saw how much unissued Konitz Verve material there really is. Agree that it would be nice to see that released, although I don't count on it ever happening.
  2. More concerts available: Newport Jazz Festival 1974 Donald Byrd and The Blackbyrds Harry James & Orchestra Herbie Hancock and the Headhunters Lionel Hampton Quartet Newport Jazz Festival 1969 Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers The Dave Brubeck Trio with Gerry Mulligan Eero Koivistoinen Quartet I was not familiar with Eero Koivistoinen (perhaps I should?), but this was an excellent set, I thought.
  3. Hey, don't knock Kenny G; he has actually evolved a lot lately:
  4. Absolutely, and then one obvious name comes to mind: Charlie Christian.
  5. Oscar Peterson! No, seriously, the first one I thought of was Clifford Brown too. It is still difficult to accept that he died when he did. And speaking of Brownie, how about Fats Navarro recording albums at all? Sonny Berman? Dick Twardzik, as mentioned by Free For All, is also an interesting suggestion.
  6. More from the 1965 festival this week: Dizzy Gillespie Quintet The Modern Jazz Quartet Muddy Waters Blues Band Memphis Slim Dizzy Gillespie and James Moody guest on the Muddy Waters set.
  7. Interesting topic. Safari is Apple's browser for Mac, although it nowadays also exists for Windows. I have Internet Explorer 8 and Firefox 3.6 and have been using both. FF certainly feels faster than IE. But when it comes to speed, I understand that Google Chrome is supposed to be even faster. Chrome was first released only 2 years ago and was originally a bare-bones browser, but it is my understanding that it has taken great leaps also in the functionality available. Version 6 was released just two days ago, and inspired by this thread I downloaded it today. I will try it out and see what I think. One thing one notices immediately is that there is more screen space available. Chrome's market share is steadily increasing and is now approaching 10%, so I think it is a player to reckon with. When it comes to Internet Explorer, there are apparently many companies that are stuck with IE6 solutions, and that version is really outdated and unsafe. I don't think IE8 is so bad though, although I can understand why it has lost market shares to Firefox and Chrome. But this month the first public beta of Internet Explorer 9 is being released, and it is supposed to be faster and improved in other ways as well. The official version is expected in 2011. And already in November 2010, Firefox 4 is expected to come out, and it is also supposed to be faster and have various improvements. Time is certainly not standing still in browser development, as it more or less was for some years after Internet Explorer had won the browser war against Netscape and had over 90% of the market. By the way, I remember that when I in the mid-90s for the first time surfed the Internet, it was with Netscape 1.22. Those were the days.
  8. Also released last week from Newport 1965: Paul Bley Trio (like the Taylor it was part of a New Thing In Jazz program) and Carmen McRae.
  9. And the most useful of them all! Undo = Ctrl+Z
  10. Yes, the 1969 session has since been released. But there was a 1964 session listed in advance that never turned up (see post #37).

  12. Wow. I never thought anything like this could still exist unissued. I had to make sure that it wasn't 1 April. I will definitely buy anything that comes out on Mosaic.
  13. That Gorelick dude is not so bad after all...
  14. Very funny! But now let's listen to the real version, with a great Coltrane solo:
