Isn't it better known as Akron?
-
To my ears Lon, yes Naked is better than the new remaster soundwise - but they are different takes.
-
To my ears Let It Be - Naked sounds awful, as if a lot (and I mean a lot) of noise reduction was applied. It sounds dead as a dodo. No idea, I sold my copy long ago. According to AMG it was mastered by Steve Rooke. The Let It Be - Naked was perhaps one of the most disappointing releases I ever bought. It. Sucked. And that after all the anticipation. Life could be so much easier ... THe thing about Let it be Naked that is not so obvious until you buy it - is that this is not just Let it Be stripped of the Spector added sounds - these are in fact different takes of the tunes in several cases - so it's not just naked - it's different and whether you prefer the Naked versions is up to you. I would have preferred that the Spectored versions would have been stripped - but that's not what happened. The sound, on the other hand, is so much better than any version of LIB out now.

I played this once and have taken care to keep it pristine. I am offering it at $205 delivered insured to a US address. If you are in the NYC metro area, I can hand it to you for $195.

Have a great one!!!

Yeah...

Does anyone know if Lee Konitz's Motion is in or will be in the Originals series? I did not see it on this list. If not, did anyone get the LPR version that came out a few years back? How was the sound?

felser, I was in J&R in NYC today and they are selling the stereo cds for $10.99 each, except for the double cds. Not sure whether the deal is the same online. regards,

thanks guys

????? Unless they brought the vocals further back on the new stereo masters, it is exactly the opposite. That's how it sounds to me. Perhaps because the instruments seem to get their own channel and the sound in stereo is so much wider and more enveloping. Have you heard the stereo 2009 remasters - your post indicates you have not.
-
I think it was mentioned earlier but I believe Lennon said something to the effect that if you haven't heard Peppers in Mono you haven't heard Peppers. Harrison said he only heard the Stereo version on the 70's and didn't like what he heard. I've said it before but I never really liked Pepper as a whole album before I heard the Mono version on the new re-issue, I liked some of the songs but the whole thing just seems to flow better in Mono. And "She's Leaving Home" is like a different song in Mono. However, if you're on a budget I think you can avoid "Let It Be", it really is the worst of the lot, when you read a few of the books mentioned in this thread and find out the circumstances under which it was recorded, it's not hard to see why. Believe it or not, IMO Let It Be is better than Abbey Road, not that LIB doesn't have a clunker or two, but AR has more in my book and the great songs on LIB are better than the great songs on AR. My two cents.

so the bottom line is - you can't delete a topic that you start?

Thanks Lon and Alexander for your comments. FWIW - I don't think the stereo version "She's Leaving Home" is too slow or draggy as many have commented in comparison to the Mono - I have heard both many times and I really prefer the speed on the stereo. In my thinking about the mono box, it occurred to me somewhat belatedly to pull out my Beatles Capitol sessions Cds since they have mono versions, granted they are not the same as the British. After comparing those to the new 2009 stereos on the first two albums, I get a sense of what the mono fans are talking about - the overall feel is that the songs rock harder in mono. On the other hand, I do also get the sense of what perhaps Lon was referring to in an earlier message, in Mono it seems to me that the vocals are up front and the instruments appear more recessed in the mix and on the stereo 2009 versions the instruments are very up front on par with the vocals. I guess you can't have it all?
-
So does whether you like mono or stereo depend on your system? I am seeing just so many wildly divergent opinions on this issue - and I am referring to the issue of sound quality not the fact that there are different takes/versions. It seems that even the folks who like the mono box concede that a number of the albums sound better in stereo. I note that Alan Kozinn, a noted Beatle expert, in his NY Times review of the mono and stereo remasters (9/06/09) said that while he admits it is heresy, he likes the sound of the first four albums in stereo, because even though you have the panning issue, he hears so much more clearly what's going in with the vocals and instruments on the stereo versions. I picked up most of the stereo versions by default - (including the first 4) at Target because the price ($11.98)-buy 2 and get $5 off the third - put price at effectively $10/disc except for the doubles - because the mono box was so hard to get. The hard panning on the stereo versions doesn't bother me and they sound great. Not sure I want to spring for the mono box - for the cost and space limitations I have.. There has been a lot of helpful opinions by member of this board and on reviews member have posted. After sjarrell's post I am wondering if the system is a key factor. Anyone else?

I read the pinned message from Jim - but I can't find any such option in the bottom left corner of the post.

FS: Bang & Olufsen turntable: Beogram RX
skeith replied to skeith's topic in Offering and Looking For...
B&O stopped making the cartridges, but a company in Peekskill NY called Soundsmith has been making the B&O cartridges rather successfully for some time now beginning at $150. So replacement cartridges are available and will be available for the table I am offering. -

Not sure TTK, it's a rather simple design. Tonearm is straight except slight angle where you attach stylus. Stylus pressure is added or subtracted through the counterweight at the other end of the arm. Nothing in the owner's manual says "linear tracking" as a feature. Bottom line - I'm not sure. -
This turntable was purchased in 1985 for $260 with cartridge. In very good shape except that one one of the phono plug connectors has a bit of the plastic that has cracked and come off - but this does not affect sound. I have the original owner's manual, box, original purchase receipt etc. Looking for $100. If you are in NYC metro area, we could avoid shipping it and I just hand it to you.

I want to say that "Monk" - not to be confused with the trio album with the same title" is, in my opinion, a very underrated Monk record. I love the tunes on it and with Frank Foster and Sonny Rollins on tenor - it's just a great record. Got the RVG reissue and I am really enjoying once again.

I've always thought he bears a strong resemblance to country singer George Jones.

One of my favorite singers of all time.

I have read Philip Norman's "Shout" about the history of the Beatles and really loved it.
