  1. http://f.chtah.com/i/9/276579820/bookcoup_25_0405.htm Hardly seems worth posting these anymore. The usual 25%/10% deal on CDs thru the 9th. 10% off Borders prices for non-members isn't enough to make them reasonable. I suspect members are getting coupons already, directly.
  2. Just arrived. Will be here for a week or ten days. Definitely planning to attend Golson concert. Also, I hear Arturo Sandoval is opening a club (or something - I'm sketchy). BTW, WDNA is great for mainstream jazz. Started listening on line some time back.
  3. I prefer to think that the man recognizes musical talent... ...or perhaps not.
  4. I just booked my upcoming stay in Fort Lauderdale and thought I'd do some checking into the local live music scene. So, who do you think is going to be there during my stay (among others)? Yeah, Kenny G is following me.
  5. Happy Birthday, Claude, from your friend of more than 20 years! (Amazing how quickly the time passes, no?) À votre santé!
  6. (Speechless.)
  7. Good advice. Two possible alternatives are: Embassy Row in DC - a nice area, again with a Hyatt (nice Hyatts in the District) and other quality hotels, obviously closer to the heart of DC, though no quicker to get to Smithsonian - or the Ballston/GMU area of 'downtown' Arlington - a little closer to DC, with another Hilton(s) and Hyatt (in Rosslyn, just across the Key Bridge from Georgetown, where you'll want to go) and perhaps a bit cheaper
  8. What're you willing to spend? What do you want to do in town? You cool with riding the Metro? (...perhaps the best metro in the US)
  9. 25% members / 10% non-members thru April 2nd. Book http://f.chtah.com/i/9/276579820/25coup0330.htm CD http://f.chtah.com/i/9/276579820/cd25coup0330.htm
  10. On the other hand, I'm at least PARTIALLY for having GM do what it's best at - building these hulking monsters. First, someone WILL build them, because there's a market for them. And second, because I don't want to pay to bail out GM, its workers, its retirees, its contractors, its suppliers... I wish GM was better at building fuel-efficient vehicles that are safe for their occupants and for everyone else on the road. Or I wish the economy and political environment were such that GM could simply be allowed to die a quiet death. Alas.
  11. I've got enough Hill, Blakey, Evans and McLean to last a lifetime But something new...!
  12. I couldn't agree more. Pick up the Capitol CD; not too tough to find.
  13. Some good info here: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...&hl=minneapolis I believe that Let it Be has since closed. Sad. I think they still do auctions. Your friend gives good advice. I like being in downtown Minneapolis. Fine hotels. And, especially in Spring thru Autumn, many (city-sponsored) events. Including a nice jazz festival - though I don't know dates this year. Really not much reason, IMO, to visit suburbs. And a half day was all I needed in St. Paul. And then there's Mall of America, where America gets mauled.
  14. I"ve been a few times, mainly to Accra, but also to the North. Accra is indeed a pretty easy place to travel. English is widely - almost universally - spoken. It's one of the most prosperous places in West Africa. It's not, however, terribly interesting. There are some markets, mainly outside of the centre, worth visiting, just to say you did...and perhaps to squander a few bucks. See if you can squeeze in an easy bus ride to Togo. Lome was much more to my liking. Fewer Western places - fast food and such. I'd have to look back at some of my travel materials for specific suggestions. PM me, if you want. By the way, it will be hot.
  15. Congrats. I think I see a pattern developing in these reviews...
  16. I'm in Sedona a couple of weeks a year - far from residency - but I'd offer up a couple of thoughts. 1. It's touristy. Really touristy. That's the whole economy. Most tourists/visitors come for the new age metaphysical stuff. Vortexs and such. Ripoffs abound, including the cost of living essentials like groceries. There are nice restaurtants, but limited offering in the 'I live here' category. Timeshares are also big business. Prepare to be accosted. The local tourist info office is nothing but a front for timeshare sales and tourist scams. 2. The place has seasons. Too hot in the summer (though not as bad as other places in AZ/So.NV) and cold in the winter. Really just one road in and out of town. I've been trapped before. 3. Flagstaff is really nice, and not that far away. It's considerably grittier (less shined-up for the tourists). It's a college town, so it's got bookstores, restaurants, breweries, record shops (decent!), better road connections. They're revitalizing downtown, with some success. Send me a PM if you want to discuss further.
  17. Silver at the Village Gate. Great stuff. Fortunately, I've got just about everything else covered. My wallet heaves a sigh of relief.
  18. 25%/10% members/non-members through the 19th http://f.chtah.com/i/9/276579820/coupon0316.htm
  19. Vibes, Haven't been able to confirm this yet, but it sounds like you may have solved my problem. The Ballad Medley song titles list every song that makes up the medley, and includes slashes between the song titles. Looking forward to trying again tonight. Thanks for the reply!
  20. Never had any trouble transfering things to an MP3 player before, but the process fails in the three Ballad Medleys. Nothing else. Odd. Any thought? Hints? Condolences? I'm not sure if these tracks play through; I don't have a CD player.
  21. Good call, Free. Again, perhaps not my absolute favorite, but worthy of inclusion.
  22. Surprised not to see one of my favorites - though perhaps not top of my list - mentioned: Tubby Hayes. While not his primary instrument, he sounds quite good on most of his vibes recordings. I've even been known to pick up the record jacket while listening to a Tubby Hayes recording in order to find out 'who's that playing vibes?" Duh.
  23. Not THAT stuff. I was actually referring to the noise he makes. I didn't want to say 'music'.
