  1. 350,000 miles last year. Nope, not afraid. I wish I had some good advice. I suppose I avoid fear by being strictly rational about things. The chances of having something bad happen to you when flying are pretty remote. The problem is that when things go wrong, a lot of people are affected (compared to, say, a car or bicycle accident - both statistically less safe). And the media does like to make money/sell papers/sell ads when these things happen. If you're the strictly rational type, I'd suggest you look at some statistics, though this may heighten any fears you have of automobile travel. Perhaps better would be to say, well, if BeBop survives 350K a year, and has for 20 years, it can't be all that bad. Especially considering the dude is jinxed.
  2. All the best, Hans!
  3. A heckuva deal! I only wish I had a need...or space.
  4. Sounds like you wouldn't be impressed by my original Royal Air Cambodge air sickness bag.
  5. Okay, if we're going to be anecdotal about this, it's presently snowing in Oakland, CA hills.
  6. Vic Come back to Organissimo Forums. I/we miss you! Have a wonderful birthday. - BeBop
  7. 20% off a book. Until the 20th. Better than nothing. Or maybe not. http://f.chtah.com/i/9/276579820/book0216.htm

A great guy. I only wish he'd pull out his tenor more often. Now let's see if he shows up to play my wedding, like he promised...whenever the day comes.
  9. ...otherwise you wouldn't have put the money there in the first place, right?
  10. woah! One of my favorite places on Earth. I go every chance I get, though I didn't intend to imply that I GET to go there as often as the other places I mentioned. For anyone interested, this is a neat site: http://www.greenland-guide.com/ I personally like Tasiilaq/Ammassalik over Kangerlussuaq or Qaanaaq.
  11. I'd intended to comment on this with my last post. I know some glaciers are receding much faster than others. And I seem to recall that a glacier recently broke off (calved, I believed is the term) a hunk of substantial size. This happens regularly in any event, but more frequently ina warming environment.
  12. I believe the glaciers are receding the length of 3 football fields a year. Didn't recently an iceberg the size of Rhode Island just melt? Keep in mind, that we are talking about very slow change in terms of human lifespans. It may be quite rapid by the standards of geologists and climatologists. Check out the (fairly impartial) Wikipedia and some of the links therefrom. Even the most radical environmentalists aren't reporting change at rapid pace - like degrees per year. That said, even small changes can have a major impact on the environment. Excerpts: Relative to 1860-1900 the global (land and sea) temperature has increased by 0.75 °C. Temperatures in the lower troposphere have increased between 0.12 and 0.22 °C per decade since 1979. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_warming

Thanks. I only wish that no news was good news in this case.

Does anyone have any news on this eagerly awaited (by me) item?
  15. Okay, I give. How does one pre-order these titles? I certainly don't have any live links on the Mosaic website that would permit. Perhaps this is a conceptual/spiritual preorder. I assume people are getting their discographical information from other sources (e.g., AllMusic, LPs owned...), since what Mosaic provides is sketchy.
  16. While I can't 'feel it', I can certainly see the long-term effects, so I'm not doubting the phenomenon. Every time I'm in Greenland, Iceland, Alaska, extreme Southern Argentina/Chile, I can see where the glaciers have receded.
  17. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but aren't we talking about a long-term, gradual effect? Not this summer versus last. I'm not sensitive enough to notice a change in average temperature of two degrees over six years (or whatever).
  18. Incidentally, anyone an avid fan of/listener to Neu!? I've picked up Neu and Neu2 and find them interesting but considerably more challenging listening, even compared to the early Kraftwerk.
  19. Anyone seen Kraftwerk live? I caught them in San Francisco at the Warfield last year. (Or was it '04?)
  20. 15% on (almost) any item through 28 February. Wonder if this can be combined with the buy three get one offer? Makes no diff to me; I don't shop at Borders anyway. http://f.chtah.com/i/9/276579820/NewSubscr...pon_Reg_15.html
  21. I bought Minimum Maximum when it first came out...and it's been in my mailbox ever since. Someday, I'll get off the road long enough to pick it up. I'm working my way backwards - Ralf and Florian, Kraftwerk 2, Kraftwerk, Organisation... and finding the evolution of the group pretty interesting.
  22. I've got about a billion Basie recordings, but this is where I'd start.
  23. Just thought I'd put this thread back into the public eye. Kraftwerk is on my mind, not to mention in my CD player.
  24. I wish I had the newspaper at-hand, but... I read yesterday that the iPod doesn't accept music downloaded from the new better-sound-quality (less heavily compressed) on-line sources.
  25. Not on this order. On your NEXT order. Sheesh!! Sorry, I don't read the fine print on offers I have no intention of taking advantage of!
