  1. (CNN) -- A patient being treated at a Dallas, Texas, hospital is the first case of Ebola virus diagnosed in the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Wednesday. Several other Americans were diagnosed in West Africa and then brought to the United States for treatment. --------------- I'm going to West Africa on Saturday to do some volunteer/relief work, but this is troubling news, depending on forthcoming details.
  2. The fad continues to take on dimensions I never would have expected. (Whole Foods?) But it's lasted longer than I expected too. Perhaps "fad" won't be quite the right word. But I still don't see it lasting.
  3. $5 off $25 purchase through September 30
  4. If you ever get to Fort Bragg (near Mendocino, a more likely destination), the brewery and restaurant / pub are worth a visit. It's usually cold and foggy, which make the fireplace wonderful. I'm told that the food is good.
  5. Cool. Good for them (North Coast). How long did it take Coors to get East of the Mississippi?
  6. Despite my board name, I've got 90 percent of the material on Mr. Litweiler's list (minus the vocal-heavy things), but no more than 30 percent of the material on the bop and post-bop lists.
  7. Just curious: where's this Fairway Market? The brewery's been around since the late 80s (I was spending a lot of time in that area, back then), and this beer since 2006. It's readily available in northern California, but I was just curious how far their distribution has spread.
  8. Happy BIrthday from here too.
  9. Wishing you all the swellest!
  10. I saw "Steve Reynolds" as latest poster and jumped back into this thread. It's been a while. Mainly that's because I've got enough material from the 1910s to the 1990s to satisfy my musical explorations for the remaining duration of my life, and that's pretty-much where the thread "lived". Steve Reynolds is a name I know well, though I don't know him - a guy passionate about the stuff I know least about. So I jumped back in, hoping for ideas to fill the 20-year void. He's steered me into a fe explorations in the NYC live scene. I'd be interested. (Don't take my board name too seriously It dates back 20 years)
  11. Thanks, Dan. Yes, it looked good. I'm really cautious about buying ANYTHING, but I knew I could get a thumbs-up or thumbs-down from you and be able to rely on it. I'll head back over tomorrow and pick it up.
  12. I saw this on a bookstore shelf. Anyone read it, GHF in particular?
  13. (I'll bet Chuck Nessa knows) (Or maybe not)
  14. I'm "just" 6'4" (194 cm.), fly 250,000 miles (400,000km) a year, all in "economy" class. It isn't always luxurious, or even pleasant, but it's commercial aviation. We deal with it.
  15. I really like the duo album with Gary Foster. Good music and good fun.
  16. Before the day passes into history, one more "Happy Birthday".
  17. Drat, I missed it. Well, sincere happy birthday wishes, a day late.
  18. Running Low Sets: On Sale! Two Weeks Only: Sale Ends August 31st With limited editions, saying farewell to sets is the nature of the beast. We have announced six sets from some of the greatest artists in jazz that are running low and slated for deletion. Leases from the record labels that own the masters are finite, but there are other factors involved. We also have to live by the old adage "out with the old and in with the new", as we have to make room for new sets both space-wise and and financially. The Complete Lionel Hampton Victor Sessions 1937-41 "Thank you Mosaic, you've done it again.A wonderful Five CD set. Been waiting 50 years for this set,it was worth the wait. 19. Happy Birthday, Lon. Celebrate when life permits! (That sounds like my birthday this year.)
  20. I'm almost finished.
  21. I've been in seven major United States cities and two European ones and one Asian in the past two months. Every one of them was swept up in the vinyl fad/fetishisation. Frankly, I'm surprised it hasn't died out yet, though I've been surprised by the hipster attention span; food trucks, fixed gear bikes and headphones are still holding their ground. Never underestimate...
  22. Thanks for link fix, Mr. Nessa. I'd tried posting from my phone.

  24. I'll join the late-to-the-party crowd with my belated Happy Birthday!
