  1. I can't wait to see him tomorrow night with Eric Alexander, Franz Jackson, Von Freeman, Ira Sullian, Orbert Davis and the Chicago Jazz Orchestra in Chicago. I was lucky enough to secure media credentials to photograph the show..... I CAN'T WAIT!!! Mark
  2. 87 miles....right down the road???
  3. ...I'll be at the Pacers/Lakers game in a few hours.....I hope the Lakers lose also! B-) Mark
  4. ...out of curiosity, what is the difference if it's from a club or not? I've seen other posters mention that a cd they are selling is or isn't from a club; is there a drawback that I'm unaware of? Mark
  5. ...nut case !
  6. ....wow, I never heard that before! You learn something new everyday.
  7. Have a great day, Tom!
  8. I think Sal told me today that he may attend; I may be there also. I'll know more in a few days. Mark
  9. ....a funny story while I'm here. I was at the Showcase a few weeks ago and a guy came through the door and asked Joe if he could sell him tickets to Ravi Coltrane. Joe said he didn't sell advanced tickets and that he would need to buy them on the day of the show. The guys was a little freaked and said he knew it would be a sell out and he didn't want to miss it....then Joe said with a straight face.....it's not John Coltrane !
  10. SS, I'll be there on Sunday to see Ravi Coltrane. I'll see what has been updated and post it Monday. Mark
  11. ...it's like a fu**ing episode of Seinfeld, I don't even know what people are bitchin' about! It's all about nothing!
  12. ....right on to all the above! Mark
  13. I bought it at the Jazz Record Mart a couple weeks ago and the recording is on Delmark (they are one and the same); I guess that's why they have it early. Mark
  14. That's correct; I met Tad when he sat in with Donald Byrd at Baker's last year! Nice guys, very good player!
  15. Chuck Nessa may be the guy to answer your questions.
  16. ...that had to have taken some time!
  17. ....you're kidding, right???
  18. The club is a couple 3-4 blocks off of Michigan Avenue in the middle of downtown. They don't kick you out after any show unless they are expected to sell out. I've stayed for both shows many times. They don't serve food and there is no drink minimum; the waitresses are friendly and don't push anything on you. It might hold 200 people at the most and the seats are lined up in the center of the room and along the wall with small tables every few seats or so. Acoustics are very good as far as I'm concerned with really no need for mikes, although they use them. The stage is not real big, not real small; maybe a foot or so above the floor. Rather dark with jazz photos hanging on every square inch of the walls. One huge image of Bird behind the stage that Joe refers to as the "patron saint" of the jazz showcase. My girlfriend says the club is a dump but she hates jazz. I think the club is what it should be. It is a non-smoking room!!! All this for $20.00!!! THE BEST VALUE OF ANY JAZZ VENUE I'VE EVER BEEN TO! One funny thing happened at the Pat Martino show the other night. A guys sitting next to me and Sal asked who the guy was in the picture above the stage (bird). One of the musicians stopped to explain to the guy who he was. This same guys requested that Martino play "Sunny" which he did; the guy was in "heaven"! Mark
  19. Rob, Welcome to the board, I hope you stick around. I have a boat load of your dad's music and he has lots of fans on this board! I'll get my playlist ready for 5/5!!! Mark
  20. Matt, I hope to catch Ravi Coltrane there this weekend after the Johnny Griffin show at another venue. I'll see if I can "squeeze" the info out of Joe! Mark
  21. Well.....I can tell you that I listened to it a few times prior to reading the liners. It didn't sound like one is attached. Then I read the notes and it mentions that he does indeed use it. It also says that it was "used lightly". I really can't hear it at all....nice recording!
  22. Wow. Great set list. Can't wait for this to come out. Haven't discovered NEW Patterson in years. Was this originally on Delmark or another label? I think it was originally done for Delmark.
  23. Sonny Stitt on Alto and Tenor, Don Patterson on B3 and Billy Pierce on Drums. ~Four ~On Green Dolphin Street ~Parker's Mood ~How High the Moon ~Shake Your Head ~It's Magic ~Getting Sentimental Over You ~Just Friends ~Body and Soul ~They Can't Take That Away From Me Recorded in 1969
  24. Dan, Yes, it is on Delmark; I left the disc in my office earlier today. I'll check it out in the morning and respond! Mark
