    Sonny Stitt

Anyone pick up this one by Sonny? I grabbed it last week and like it a lot. Don Patterson on B3 !!!
  2. ...you don't get to say that a lot, do you!
  3. ...Friday night was standing room only; I bet Saturday was the same!
  4. Brownie, I asked her about her site and she said she's done nothing with it for 6 months or more. She said touring with Henry is taking so much time she doesn't know when/if she'll update it. Mark
  5. Great photograph, Chuck....did those sandwiches come straight from the vending machine???? I will indeed post some photographs in the next few days. I was invited to photograph the sound check and made images throughout the show as well. Henry's manager and "companion" Margaret Davis was very accomodating to me and gave me a couple of his "solo" works (cds) that he did a while back. These are the ones that he did the small, original drawings on the cover. I spoke to Henry and Marshall Allen for a few minutes each. Henry's very soft spoken and gracious; Marshall is out there , but a very cool cat!!! What can you say about Fred Anderson but......damn, that guy can play!!! The drummer, Avreeayl Ra was also a giant on drums! It was good getting together with ejp626 and Sal. Canonball Addict was suppose to join us at Hot House but couldn't make it......missed a killer show! If you get a chance to see them in Cleveland tomorrow night (Passport Project's Global Community Arts Center), don't miss it! Mark
  6. ...what a drag ; I was just watching him on old dvd. I always liked his playing! RIP
  7. Nothing wrong with Thin Lizzy, and nothing wrong with that album. 'Jailbreak' and 'Live and Dangerous' were the only TL records I owned though. ...back in the day when I freelanced for a regional rock promoter (before I knew what jazz was), I photographed Thin Lizzy. They were actually quite fun to watch!
  8. We have updated the site with a new "Print of the Month" as well as a "Purchase" page as several of you have inquired about buying prints. Many new artists to come in the next month, include Henry Grimes, Johnny Griffin and Ravi Coltrane. Thanks for looking!!!! Mark
  9. I know of one member who resides in Taipei.
  10. . ..good deal on the Watkins!!!
  11. ...and I would be interested in the Steve Lacy if it's still available! Mark
  12. Marla, I saw Benny this past September at the Chicago Jazz Festival and he looked/played well.....big smile on his face the entire time (not when he was actually playing ). Mark
  13. Elis, What city, state, country did all this take place in?
  14. Lotsa' small heads in Indiana. ...hey, watch it!
  15. Happy Belated Birthday!!! I hope it was a good one!
  16. Sounds like a great show; wish I could make it! Mark Southwest has some great fares from Indianapolis to Philly. And you could arrange to take some photos of Dave and Marian--I'll carry your equipment (and I'll bet we could get Alan Lankin to help). If it were a weekend I would seriously consider it; the mid week gig is tough for me to do. I appreciate the offer to schlepp my equipment. I may be visiting Philly this summer to take in a ball game, maybe we can hook up!

    Miles Davis

I think Greg is saying the he's not surprised that Miles continued to perform/record popular tunes of the day. Mark
  19. I went to Terell's show last night and he played with one of our local rhythm sections. Very good show, very melodic/lyrical; played both trumpet and flugelhorn! Terell and band played Hackensack, Someday my Price will come, Woody and You, Old Folks, Straight no Chaser as well as a tune by Sonny Rollins (Doxy, I think!) and another one by Gillespie I can't think of. There were about 200 people in a hall that holds about 500. Terell's a very personable guy as I had a chance to chat for a few minutes after the show. I'll post a few images from the show in the near future. Mark
  20. .... that's just awful!
  21. I saw Leibman a couple years ago at a small club down the street from my house; about 10-15 people there . He had one of the local tenor players sit in for a few tunes. I chatted with him for a bit after the show; nice guy. Too bad the show wasn't better attended. Mark
  22. I know Joe Segal tried to get him into the Jazz Showcase while he's in town but JG wants too money. A cryin' shame as Johnny's a home town boy!!! Mark
  23. ...are you going to make this show? I hope to be there. Mark
  24. I read a reveiw on this earlier this week; sounds like a good one to get! Mark
