He performed with Jason Moran at the Chicago Jazz Fest a few weeks back. An excellent performance. Am curious to hear more about the new CD. ....and played later that night with Ira Sullivan at the Jazz Showcase.....too cool! m~

I came across a vintage photograph of Oscar Valdambrini with Lee Konitz (from a friend). The photograph was taken November 11, 1962 in Italy and signed by the photographer (can't read the signature). I showed it to Lee at the Chicago jazz festival and he was very pleased to see it. I know nothing of Oscar....anyone know where I can see more photographs/bio? I'll try to scan the print in the next couple days to post here. Thanks! m~

c, I don't know how medicated Henry is nor is it any of my (or anyone's) business how anyone is medicated (but I take toprol for high BP if it's a concern) and not what this thread is about. Are you asking a question (about his medication/memory or insinuating there is any issue)?? Having know Henry for a few years, I find him to be very engaging in conversation and fascinating to speak with. That said, If I had gone though what Henry has gone through, I'm not sure I'd be really interested in discussing it with everyone. If Henry has forgotten things from this part of his past, that may not be a bad thing....but the guy really appears to be at peace with himself and what's going on around him!! Ghost did a nice interview with him down at IU this past year as well, along with a great live performance at a local radio station. My perception of Henry is exactly as I posted above and isn't spoiled by your thoughts but thanks for chiming in. Is was a blast hanging out with Henry/Margaret and I wanted to share the images. m~ edited for spellun'

...not only happy but the most humble man you may meet. For everything he's gone through and to come out of it the way he has is inspiring. I have had several conversations with Henry over the past couple years, the guy is a gentle soul....more should be like him. Despite all that has happened to Henry over the past few decades, you would never know it to speak with him....and his music is amazing!!! m~

Not sure if I've shared these photographed I made of the great bassist Henry Grimes while I was in NYC in early May. These were taken outside Henry's home. Spent part of the day with Henry and his partner Margaret Davis....very memorable experience. After making these images, we took a bus up to the Apollo Theater to see "A Great Night in Harlem" fundraiser.... m~
