Caught them in Philly a few weeks ago--and Golson earlier this year. Both great shows! Mark, I don't know if you've photographed Mabern before, but you should try to do so on Sunday. He's very expressive and interesting to watch while he plays, and should be a terrific subject. .....I have! Here is one of them!
-
Wilton Felder! Let's not get him confused with anyone who wouldn't be caught dead doing a pop session... .....oops, sorry about that!
-
Vic Feldman, Jerome Richardson, Ernie Watts, Winton Felder on Steely Dan's Pretzel Logic.......jazz musicians scattered all over SD's recordings.......Brecker Brothers, Feldman, Sanborn, Ronny Cuber and others on Gaucho as well. m~
-
Eric Alexander & Harold Mabern have been at the Jazz Showcase in Chicago all week and perform through this Sunday. I'll make the Sunday show.....anyone else???? Benny Golson....next week!!! Mark

OUR Dan has a degree in "BS" as well !!! Sorry Dan, couldn't resist!!! m~ -
I attended the game with a couple of my customers and it was a great time. Very good game but what's up with all the personal fouls????? Very strange for the Colts as they are not peanalized that often. Several folks with the Cowher (sp) "spit shields", too funny!!! m~

...although I saw them at an outdoor festival and there were a good mix of people, most of the people in front of the stage for this particular show was a younger crowd, many of those "jam band" kind of people!!! I had not really heard them before but thought they were pretty good....lots of energy and the crowd dug them! m~

...I saw them this summer in a festival setting....here's your boy!!!
-
...they must have been referring to his "brother" Pete!!!

JazzMessenger, I knew you were just having fun. I live to the south end of Carmel, which is so close to North Indy~! -
I have no problems shopping (even today) but only if I have specific items to pick up. I won't wander around aimlessly through a mall. That said, I would prefer to shop on-line if at all possible. Plus, it's too damn cold today (12 degrees -4 windchill) so I think I will stay in doors. I'm actually at my office today but have a short photo shoot this afternoon so I'm gone by 1:00~~~~ m~

What live music are you going to see tonight?

I'll be in Minneapolis next Wednesday (11/30) for business and will see Frank Morgan at the Dakota Bar while I'm there!!! Also, Alexander/Mabern as well as Golson on the horizon in December (in Chicago)!!! m~ -
I was wondering the same thing!

Happy Thanksgiving to all~~~~

Was it PJ or PK? I can't quite remember. But, man did they have a setlist. Over 300 tunes! For a three piece band they had a big sound. He played in a lot of different open tunings which helped for sure. And he was (is?) an exciting player. g Wow, I hadn't thought about Rods and Cones in years. I used to go see them at the Bluebird in Bloomington when I was underage and admittance was pretty easy... yeah, Lavengood was a hell of a guitar player. Not sure whatever happened to him. I think it was "PK," but not sure about that either. Quick Google search seems to turn up that he's been playing with John Eddie for the past 15 years: PK Lavengood Drop down just a bit and you'll see his band profile. Yep, that's the guy. He was a treat to watch play. Creative cat. ...now, that's not very nice Indianapolis is a beautiful city!!! Is that why you live in Carmel? ...well, to me they are one and the same....just a nice little suburb of Indy. I only put Carmel on my profile because it's my mailing address. I did live in the heart of the city for many years in a renovated school built in the late 1800's...very nice with a great veiw of the city! Now Jazzmessenger is picking on me.....he hasn't been on the boards in weeks and he's picking on me !!! m~ Bob and Tom used to make jokes about Carmel housewives. My favorite: "what is a waterbed to a carmel housewife?...the dead sea!" wait, that could be the guy's fault too, hey that ain't that damn funny In all seriousness, Indy has done a lot since the mid 80's. Indeed a beautiful city! g ...or, what does a Carmel housewife do when she has an orgasm? She drops her fingernail file!!! -

I just sent a long-winded note to David at the Box. I filled him in a little on the band and your music and told him I'd be glad to get a copy of your cd to him. Not really sure how many bands he brings in from out of town but told him you guys would be great! You may want to follow up with a call or email to him. m~ -

The ghosts of Wes, J.J., and Carl Perkins will see you now. Jim, have you tried the Chatterbox? Very small venue down on Massachusetts Avenue... the stage is in the window. Legendary once upon a time for not being too great, pay-wise... but that was 10-15 years ago. Don't know what the story is now (I think it's still owned by David Andrichik). For Bloomington I'd still suggest the Players' Pub or Bear's Place. The Chatterbox is a fun place but it's primarily locals....not to say they wouldn't book you. It's a pretty small place but much fun. David (david@chatterboxjazz.com) is still the owner. 425 Massachusetts Avenue 317.636.0584
