  1. What David said!! Have a Great Birthday!!! Mark
  2. ...very cool time indeed (other than my parking ticket at IU)!!! Henry and the band sounded great and were a blast to talk with. While David interviewed Henry for a future installment of his show, I spoke with Andrew Lamb in another part of the studio...very cordial, informative and a very fine player as well. When David finished his interview, we went into another studio for Joe's interview with Henry and Andrew; fun to sit in and make a few photographs. Next was a trip to a nice cafe for some yummy burritos and then onto the other station for a live broadcast of the band. I had met percussionist Avreeayl Ra several times before in Chicago....very bad (as in good!!!) drummer!!! While he punished his borrowed drums, Aaron Ibn Pori Pitts did some spoken word which was cool while Andrew played several instruments including the tenor sax, clarinet, flute and some little wooden doo-dads (not really called doo-dads), more along the line of a whistle....Henry was Henry, just killin'!!! While David did his on-air interview and the band played, I roamed the room with camera in hand to take it all in. After David left, I stuck around with the band for another 30-45 minutes to chat before the drive back home. Heading to the sound check at the Madame Walker Theatre in a bit and then to the show later this evening! I'll post some images on Saturday~ m~
  3. I have a couple of these but forgot to ask William Claxton to sign them. This would have suited him better than the very heavy copy of the book he signed! He had a bit of a trouble lifting it and opening it to the first page to sign my copy! The book is quite astonishing. One of the very best jazz photos book ever! ← Of course the flyer comment was a joke referring back to the various JiP collectibles we were talking about a while back ("mine's bigger/rarer than yours", kind of thing). I got my girlfriend to get the flyer (it's actually a heavy cardboard card) signed by Claxton at the Frankfurt Book Fair on Sunday so I can put that into my rather torn first edition of the book. Today I spent quite some time studying the new book and without trying to be the party pooper here, frankly I was more disappointed than anything. Sure, it's a stunning book, but I expected more than what's in there. Moreover, some of the images are overly grainy, blown up to the size they are (and yes, I know they were supposed to be grainy in the first place). I'd rather get the huge Kubrick tome, especially since most of what's in there is new for me whereas the Claxton book I know inside out. Now just imagine they would have turned that one into a complete jazz photography of ... kind of book. There would certainly have been enough space for that. This way I think it's just another one of the by now many half-hearted Taschen Books, a reprint which didn't demand all that much editorial effort. Sorry, but that was my first impression. ← Party Pooper!...........I'll get it anyway!
  4. There is a dry cleaning business down the street from my house called "Beaver Cleaners" . m~

    HELP!

...Love his music, has had a great influence on me....a real jazz legend! There are many Ellington related threads here; you can probably use the "search" button and find many. Mark
  8. Just spoke to my friend Jim Neumann who was in NY for the past several days. He caught one of the shows and said it was great!!!! The two women with him were not as excited about it as he was!!! He was headin' to catch Les Paul somewhere else! (Irridium, maybe??) m~
  9. Got em' ; great service as always!!!
  10. I didn't realize that. Chicago was a pretty good bacd back in those days.....a little different now!
  11. I think JazzKrow posted this in the "Live Show" thread; should be a killer show.....wish I could make it!
  12. They sound good to me but I'm no audiophile!
  13. I saw Hendrix when I was 11/12 years old; tagging along with my older sister. If I remember correctly, he opened for Chicago or the other way around. Anyway, this was the first time I ever took photographs at a concert. I have them stashed away somewhere and will post a couple if I can find them. Not real high quality but decent. My negatives are in very poor shape as well but printable with a lot of patience!!! m~
  14. Please don't assume because one person (here) thinks his management is not good, that it is the gospel. I feel (know) Margaret is hitting the pavement for Henry every day in seach of more opportunities; he appears to feel she is doing a good job as well. m~
  15. $41.00 is pricey ......but Von is too good to pass up, especially if you've never seen him or don't think you'll have a chance to see him again!!!! m~
  16. There's your first question. Much better than asking if he likes the guys on Criss Cross. ← ....or if he likes Christopher Cross !
  17. Not to derail David's thread anymore but I don't understand the last statement.
  18. .....probably her undying devotion to him and his music!
