  1. First Norman Mailer, now Evel Knievel. Makes ya think.
  2. Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you for the information and cool pictures! For ages I'd just assumed that Minton's had either been torn down or turned into something else. ...And that mural is nice!
  3. Yeah, the fifth and final. Haven't heard about any delay.
  4. He's gone to that great motorcycle jump-ramp in the sky.
  5. Not a big fan of it, myself.
  6. Scary. My heart goes out to you, but thank god it wasn't worse.

    Cecil Payne R.I.P

    Sad news indeed. RIP
  8. Hmmmm...kidney failure, eh?
  9. Ringo: the Dave Tough of rock'n'roll.
  10. "...telling tales of drunkeness and cruelty-"
  11. Not at all; I also prefer the old (classic) design. But then, I've been accused of not dealing well with change.
  12. I've always kind of liked the Monk/Shadow Wilson combination.
  13. I don't think you'll regret it. A great set, and as Kalo and Lester say, you've got to know those lyrics!
  14. Verve Gerry Mulligan Concert Jazz Band Sessions
  15. Very sorry to hear this. My best wishes to you in your time of loss.
  16. That's a big favorite of mine.
  17. That's Where It's At---Stanley Turrentine (The cover would make a fine avatar.)
  18. The Who Sell Out is my favorite album of theirs too, though it's been a long long time since I listened to it. Subtract "Pinball Wizard" from Tommy and you're not left with much. The Limey and Freaks & Geeks gave new resonance to "The Seeker" and "Love Reign O'r Me."
  19. ...And wish them good luck. "Rain," some of his work on the White Album, the melodic fills on some early songs, and his taste and subtlety throughout the Beatles' career are enough for me. Also, "Ticket To Ride."
  20. Isn't Wahoo! by Duke Pearson still unavailable? Would make a nice RVG along with Smithville.
  21. Indeed. Such a great movie. Lino Ventura was terrific! Melville should have gotten awards for this film. Instead, the French critical establishment dumped on him for being "Gaulist." The French, they are a funny people...
  22. This a Coen bothers film---of COURSE the joke's on the viewer. I agree: When Moss is taken out, off-camera, it's a huge cheat. The rest of the film was pretty much crap, excepting perhaps the confrontation between Anton and Moss's wife. I know that some people will scream that that's the way the novel goes, but since I never read the novel (and now never intend to) I can only judge it as a movie, and frankly any movie based on a novel has to stand or fall by how it functions as a movie. And one conclusion I've reached about the Coens long ago is that they are incapable of simply making a "good movie"---they can't help playing silly, self-referential, post-modern games. Fucking around, in other words. But they've got two-thirds of a good movie here, which is really great for them.
  23. And not get to see Jazzmoose's cat? Inconceivable.
  24. I love his cornet solo in the intermission to It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World.
