  1. Interesting remark. I find I have to be in a certain mood to dig almost any album. Isn't that part of the reason we have all sorts of different music in our collections? MG I don't know...I'll have to give that some thought when I'm in the right mood.
  2. Since my previous post I'd have to say that the one I listen to the most is the Sal Salvador. Love that disc.
  3. Knowing how you feel about strings, I'd say you definitely wouldn't dig it. Don't get it folks, what's wrong with strings, when they're arranged as well as on this album, by Tadd Dameron? Come on... MG Hey, I've got absolutely nothing against strings. Except when they're unnecessary.
  4. Say what now?
  5. Smooth As the Wind is the only one I don't have, and you're making me feel good about that.
  6. I voted for Judgment, as it's one of my favorites. Apparently I'm not alone. I don't know why Black Fire wasn't on your list though, because I've got to agree with the people who say it's a logical next choice.
  7. Great minds think alike - I was playing that the other day. MG Good call! I'll have to pull that one out when I get home tonight. I've gone T-Boneless for far too long. Be careful who you say that to.
  8. Yes, the main reason I bought it.
  9. That sounds reasonable.
  10. Shouldn't it be, "52nd Street of the West"?
  11. "On the Road is about...being...on the road."
  12. Not even a teensy-weensy little bit? Let's just say I havn't joined the church yet. Bingo!
  13. Piano Reflections, as Piano in the foreground or Money Jungle are all great Ellington's CD but in trio format if I remember well. True, but compared to big band, that's practically solo.
  14. I've got nothing against Ratliff (I'm not really familiar with his work)---I just don't give a damn about Coltrane.
  15. I'm not ready for this.
  16. I personally thought 40 Year Old Virgin was the weakest of the three. FWIW, though I enjoyed a lot of the movie, the McLovin gag was by the funniest thing in there. Followed by all the scenes with the cops. Actually, I thought the scenes with the cops were the weakest in the film. I would second that. I think I had a great time with Super Bad because I went to movie not expecting it to have the same payoffs as those movies. Instead I expected something on the level of Porky's or American Pie, so I was happy with the results. I had a similar reaction. Just before seeing Superbad, I talked with a friend who gave me all the reasons why he wasn't going to bother seeing it (and he was a fan of Knocked Up)---consequently, I went in expecting it to be rather weak, so I had a great time. The magic of lowered expectations.
  17. What the fuck?
  18. Clearly not as good as Knocked Up or The 40-Year Old Virgin, but worth seeing I thought.
  19. I heard this on the radio today. Seventy-seven!! Wow. What a career, what a life, what a talent! All the best Sonny!!
  20. Slightly surprised that he was only 71; somehow I thought he was older.
  21. Lots of great recommendations here. I would only add: Duke Ellington---Piano Reflections Sun Ra---Monorails and Satellites
  22. I've been thinking about getting the Monk At Town Hall on CD for a long time.
  23. "...that was the only reason We all had to say goodbye! EMI!" ---Sex Pistols
