  1. Pardon me if I missed it, but any comments on the Griffin/Davis album Pisces?
  2. I've got Battle Stations, The Tenor Scene, and Tough Tenor Favorites. Love 'em all, but I'd have to say my fave is Tough Tenor Favorites. Great sound to that. Sounds like I should get Minton's.
  3. "The Library of Babel" is actually the very first Borges story I ever read and got me hooked on him for life. Still one of my favorites.
  4. Very best wishes to you and your wife, Lon.
  5. Don't worry; his World War II thing will be coming out soon.
  6. You've got a treat in store.
  7. It depends on how much you like Mobley, naturally. For me the 50's Mobley set is as essential as vitamin C.
  8. Chuck is right, of course. But I like the set.
  9. I'm someone who can have multiple versions of the same thing and wish for more.
  10. It strikes me as a bizarre and rather dickish practice. But then, that's record companies for ya.
  11. Never been a big fan of abstract expressionism. But I couldn't stop watching the episode.
  12. I just happened to bump into it by happy accident last night and was able to catch an hour of it. Excellent documentary, and the concert footage was unbelievable! I always rather preferred Stax to Motown; this reminded me why.
  13. Yes, I'm waiting patiently for the original disc 1 to become worth $1,000.
  14. I've got this set, and it is great. You've inspired me to play it some more.
  15. I hear that! But lately, for me it's probably the Morgan/Shorter Vee-Jay box. I've been listening the hell out of that one for years.

    Moby Grape

I put in a special order for that first, eponymous, album back in 1980 or so. Then found out that the damn thing had just gone out of print. But many years later I was able to give it a listen somewhere and found it rather underwhelming. I wondered if I would have liked it more back when I was still heavily into 60's rock.
  17. I like mine medium-rare. But that Guiffre looks nice.

    Miles & Mobley

I think Larry has hit it right on the head here.
  19. And here I thought of "Contemorary jazz" as being any jazz put out on the Contemporary label.
  20. I think Easterly Winds is the only thing I have by him as a leader, but it's a keeper.
  21. I just saw the Rothko episode last night and, despite a healthy skepticism, found it quite interesting.
  22. When you purchase your 50th black box, do they send you a free Mosaic T-shirt? Seems like you should get something...
