  1. Nice avatar, ghost! Jughead was always my favorite of the Riverdale High crowd. (AKA Haverhill High.)
  2. I call it an act of God.
  3. GODDAMN It!!!! What the HELL????? Ah, whatever.
  4. Up there with Out of the Past and Ride Lonesome? Woah. Where has this film been all my life. Sounds like I should get this damn box.
  5. Thanks to this thread I've had that "Good Night" song going through my head for the last 24 hours. Back in the sixties, when I was little, I would see the Lawrence Welk show many a time at my grandparents' house. They always ended with that sticky little number. Well, time to break out the Flipper I guess.
  6. Why not look for "The Lost Sessions" instead? ← I've got it on both. What can I say? I'm a sucker.
  7. I'd follow her to the end of the galaxy.
  8. I love it. But I'm a little strange.
  9. I kind of liked the Blakey band with (first) Hank Mobley in the tenor chair, and (later) Wayne Shorter.

    Charlie Rouse

I don't have all of Rouse's albums by a long shot, but of the ones I've heard Soul Mates is my favorite by quite a margin. Such a good feeling on that album, both the individual tracks, and the way one track leads to the next with and almost narrative line. Good programming I guess they call it. A friend gave me a tape of it ages ago, and it was actually side two filler to something else I think...anyway, I became kind of obsessed with it, finally locating a CD copy three or four years ago, so I could play it even MORE, and make more tapes for other people, and so on. What a gem of an album.
  11. Good as that group was, I heard that Blakey didn't care for the sometimes complicated drum charts that Golson wrote.
  12. There's a smell like that at the northern border of Burlingame. Smells like chocolate. But I hear there's some sort of chocolate or candy factory near there.
  13. An amazing restoration job! Better late than never.
  14. Ever seen Sulu's daughter? Wow!
  15. Whaddaya want, anyway? They're just body mechanics. Trial and error. How about that bird flu? ← Yeah, and "science" is no better than homeopathy...and y'cain't prove no diffrent, dagnabit!! How about that bird flu, you ask? Just one mutation from armagedon. In a word, "yikes."
  16. We could call each, perhaps, a finally-issue.
  17. That's pretty much it in a nutshell.
  18. That's a good recommendation.
  19. I also thought they should have gone with the Captain Sulu/Excelsior series. In fact, I thought they should have done that INSTEAD of Voyager rather than after.
  20. How is it? ← Good. But not as good as either of the first two "classic" (which is to say, sixties) Nuggets boxes. This was predictable, since as this comp is drawn from an era I remember, I naturally have "issues" with some of the choices. But the box includes two (count'em, two) early dB's songs that predate their first album. That's almost worth it right there.
  21. They're showing some very obscure and hard-to-find Hitchcock's among the Rebecca's and Vertigo's. So far I've missed most of 'em though.
  22. I'm more of a blastocyst fan, myself.
  23. What Rooster said. Some of these major-label reissues of older recordings at budget prices are extrmemly valuable. If it's a performance that you've heard good things about, this lets you check it out more easily. Count me as yet another fan of Naxos. The label is a godsend. (But then, I also like Hyperion, which is sort of the anti-Naxos in that it's a small label that costs more.)
  24. I think he just likes the name.
  25. I've got to admit, I've been listening to the Monk/Coltrane more often lately.
