  1. That would be WAY cool!!
  2. C to F to E to F vs F (to C to E to F) to B to C An E over a dominant C+ is the same as a B over an tonic F7? ← Would you believe....? Man, I was startled to learn Don Adams was 82!! I always kind of assumed he was born in the 30's. I can remember seeing the opening to Get Smart when I was a little kid and thinking it was a serious drama. The opening made it seem so exciting and cool. Later I used to watch repeats obsessively. (I'm talking about the color episodes. I never even knew they had a black & white season until much later when some obscure local channel showed a few.) I had kind of a thing for Babara Feldon's Agent 99----as much a kid in elementary school can have a thing for anyone, that is.
  3. I agree with an earlier observation that the drums are over-miked, but hey, you don't expect studio quality from a recording like this. The music is great, particularyly "Blue Monk."
  4. Take two Ellington records and call me in the morning.
  5. Thanks Jazzmoose. Although, to be fair, I should point out that David Bowie did a lot of songs that were better than "Life On Mars." (#8)

    Donald Byrd

    Wow, good for him.

So, BN issued the Conn. in 1996 and you don't have it yet. 2 quintets - one with McLean and the other with Mobley. How bad could it be? Available from youmusic for $5.99. Live on the edge! ← Gee, that's a lot less than I paid for it!
  8. Tina Brooks was THE MAN for sure. He's a legend to me, maybe even a genius (though I have problems with that word.) Certainly one of my top ten jazz tenors of all time. I'm sure you'll like the Ray Charles live in Brazil DVD. As I recall, it's surprisingly affordable, too. And dig those wacky commercials!
  9. "Informed" by who?
  10. Yikes!!! That must have been frightening. Glad you're okay.
  11. That's it, I'm changing my handle to "TinaBrooks"-----or maybe "HMobley."
  12. Sir Charles Thompson is still around? That's great, too. I always liked his work.
  13. Sticky Fingers isn't quite my favorite Stones album, but I don't think they've done as good an album since. And that was, what, 34 years ago?
  14. I knew that some names would come up that I'd totally overlooked. Isn't it awesome that McShann is still alive?
  15. Morgan's Creek is not one of my favorite Sturges movies, but it's far from the worst. (Best thing in it, for my money: Good ol' William Demarest, as the harried father.)
  16. Yeah. Now that Lucky Thompson has passed away, he's the only one who comes readily to mind. (Aside from Max Roach and Hank Jones that is.)
  17. That makes me feel old. The "over 20 years," not the .
  18. I remember Taster's Choice.
  19. Hey, wait a minute... You mean Ken Burns didn't invent jazz?
  20. "Waterloo Sunset" has got to be the best pick on that list. But what about Eno's "Burning Airlines Give You So Much More"? Also, one song each by Nick Lowe, Elvis Costello, Graham Parker, and XTC would have been nice. But that's just me.
  21. It's the old "how many is too many" question. I don't have a good answer.
  22. Absolutely, and don't forget this one for more great Shelly Manne..... Sonny Rollins and the Contemporary Leaders ← You've got to love that Rollins stuff on Contemporary... and Manne is one of the reasons. ← I think I love the alternate takes even more.
  23. Even though I have "too many" Cannonball albums, I got this and like it a lot.
