Hecate, Aurora, Astarte, Persephone, Demeter, Ariadne, Lakshmi, Thalia, Minerva...
I admit to a bias in favor of goddesses.
But Odin, Thoth, and Mithra are cool.
And let's not forget Zarathustra.
Boy, that makes me feel old. The first Mosaic I bought was Mosiac 101 -- The Complete Blue Note Thelonious Monk, back in the "early days."

Yeah, TELL me about it...
Maybe in 20 years music will be beamed right into our heads.
I've also been listening to the Anita O'Day set lately. When I first got it, I focused mainly on the live set. While that is very good, there's a lot of other good stuff here. What a singer!
Then maybe you can answer a question for me. I was listening to the OJC CD of "You Get More Bounce With Curtis Counce" on headphones the other day, and noticed on track 3 ("Too Close for Comfort") that the left channel disappears at 1:28-1:51. Do I have a defective CD, or do you hear it also?
←
I don't hear it, but I've never listened to that album on headphones.
You're not alone, Soul Stream, Herbie never did that much for me, either.
←
I can happily cope without Herbie too.
On topic, I can't wait for the Elmo Hopes which are about to appear.
←
I've got to agree.
For some time I've thought of Herbie as rather overated, but was afraid to say so out loud.
Seriously, after listening to The Fox again, I went through my (no doubt incomplete) collection of Curtis Counce Group records. Aways a pleasure. Frank Butler!
No heresy at all----I tend to like the Riversides better too, Paul.
I also really like Big Six, though. I'd say you can start with any one of them and rest assured that you're getting good value. Go for it!
Admittedly I haven't been paying as much attention to Pekar for, oh, the last 10 years or more, but I understood he went through some grueling chemotherapy a while back, so I'm just glad to hear that he continued to write about jazz. More power to 'im.
Hi, I'm a new member...The first set I purchased was #121 The Complete Blue Note 45 sessions of Ike Quebec, purchased with #141, The 1960's Jazz messenger recordings. I remember asking if they had any misc. parts of the #107 Quebec/Hardee set, but they had nothing they could sell me. I have since purchased a bunch more Mosaics, I'm keeping 'em all.
←
The Quebec/Hardee is one of the very few early sets that I somehow missed, even though I kept meaning to get it. Ouch! Bad memory...
First one I got was the Monk Blue Note...didn't I say this before?
The first set is great and this will be better.
I'm all over it.

One of the best shows of the 70's, and certainly one of the best sitcoms of all time.
