  1. Those are my picks! Come to Papa!!
  2. I'm a fan of the books from about, oh, ten years ago. I've seen the movie and liked it. Sure, neither Aubrey or Maturin actually LOOK like I picture them in my mind, but you can't expect them to. I can understand you keeping away from it, but all things considered I think the film-makers did an excellent job. They conflate two books into one story, but even that I can forgive. I enjoyed it hugely and saw it twice on the big screen. Sure, it's not perfect and you can pick nits til the cows come home, but I think it's about the best that could be done by Hollywood. Actually, kind of a miracle for modern Hollywood, in that they actually produced a good historica/adventure movie, something Hollywood just doesn't do anymore. I reread some of the books afterward, and I still have the old (ACCURATE) pictures in my mind of the blond, red-faced Aubrey, and the short, pale Maturin.
  3. Delivery takes an average of 3 days, in my experiance. This is one of my favorite Selects. A talented musician who's been somewhat overlooked finally gets a showcase here. Great for either close listening or doing the dishes/driving background. Chances are high that you will like it. Enjoy!
  4. Gosh----I love sports!!!
  5. I DIDN'T see it! Damn!
  6. Perhaps this isn't the time or place to admit it, but I never got into The Byrds.
  7. I doubt it ... If this were a rock record, maybe ... but I don't think they'd be many jazz fans so gullible for this to attract consistenly a high price. Probably not----but I can always hope!
  8. Whaaaaaaaaaaaa?????
  9. Good remembrance of Quine on Fresh Air today.
  10. Ummmm... I listened to Urban Dreams by Pepper Adams for about the tenth time today. Does that count? (BTW, what did you think of Dark Side of the Moon?)
  11. Thanks for clearing that up; I was just going to say, "What about Introducing Johnny Griffin?" If it were a better world, this would be issued as an RVG right about now, along with Davis Cup, Flight To Jordan, Here to Stay, and Leapin' and Lopin'. Yes, I missed the Conn, how can you tell?
  12. Yeah, but we're talking Wayne's World here, not Shakespeare.
  13. It's a truly great set. Go for it! Free shipping!
  14. "Soprano Sax"--Steve Lacy
  15. I say why not? As computing power expands, a computer should at least be able to, ah, emulate musical improvisation. I can envision a time when one could program a computer to improvise "in the style of" Bird, say, or Rollins, or Morgan, or anybody.
  16. Sad news indeed. RIP
  17. Started listening to some jazz around '79 and '80. Jazz became more of an obsession in 1985.
  18. Morgan/Shorter---my private mix tape.
  19. I'd throw on some Sonny Clark and Hank Mobley. But that's just me.
  20. It sure is. Blecch!
  21. Sounds very intriguing!
  22. I too started off with Reflections, and it's still one of my favorites. Good place to start.
  23. I was told by Mosaic that their license for these Vee Jay sets was with Rhino, who had a deal with the holders of the Vee Jay masters. Apparently, this agreement between Rhino & Vee Jay was suddenly terminated. Since Mosaic's deal was with Rhino and Rhino no longer had the rights, Mosaic had to stop selling the sets. Later, Kevin That just plain sucks.
  24. No, did he do it first?? I just got it in an email..... It LOOKS like one of the one's he would do. Don't know if that particular one is his or not. I wish they would actually put it out. It would make me a collector again.
