  1. Maybe I'll just content myself with the old Mcmaster edition.
  2. Let us know what you think of the Brookmeyer! (Been thinking of pulling the trigger on that.)
  3. Seems to me like it may be a pathetic attempt to keep the music "relevent"----meaning, appealing to people under 20. Frankly I don't give a fuck.
  4. Hoo-boy! Good choices, man!! It must be a listenin' festival at your house! I think you're gonna like those Selects.
  5. I'm in NY. Whoops! Sorry.
  6. What sets did you get Africa?
  7. This is a nice album; and the Verve Elite re-issue includes a whole extra Joe Gordon album with Blakey on drums. Has anyone mentioned the Bethlehem album Hard Drive? With Johnny Griffin on tenor, Bill Hardman on trumpet, Junior Mance, piano.
  8. I nominate Burlingame, CA.
  9. All the voting choices should be in anyones Jazz Hall of Fame.
  10. I can't wait for this! I will finally get to see the episodes I missed, as well as the episodes that were shot but not aired. Anyone else a fan?
  11. Damn, the sound ain't THAT bad! Unless you are an audiophile, I don't think the sound will be an issue. Personally, I treasure this box, because when I got it I had very little Turrentine (except as a sideman). So I'm with John L---get the set. You won't be sorry.
  12. It would be fun and informative to look at Mosaic's sales figures over the years. Failing that, one can only indulge in uninformed speculation...which is also fun. I've always suspected that the Mildred Bailey box to be a low seller. The large size/price would seem off-putting one would think. Similar assumptions would apply to the Capito box. I was a bit taken aback to learn that most Mosaic collections don't sell out; rather, the plug gets pulled due to the time-out of their licensing agreement. So a particlar box may have sold 1/2 to 2/3 of the number that were supposed to be available due to sales being that slow.
  13. Hmmm...off the top of my head: Mighty Moe and Joe Ultramarine Funk In Deep Freeze East of Brooklyn
  14. "Firefly" ---And I SWEAR I only watched 1 1/2 episodes! B)
  15. I despise the way Neil Conan says, "--and this...is talk of the nation." He really smarms it up; I feel like he's digging me in the ribs every time I hear it. Ugh! Shut UP you fatuous dweeb!!
  16. I dont no what there coming too.
  17. Personally, that's the way I prefer it.
  18. Don't have the Mcmaster, so I can't say. I'm sure glad the "extra" tracks are there, though. "Child's Play," "Soulful Kiddy," and "Theme From Mr. Lucky" are particurlar favorites.
  19. Whaaaaaaaa??
  20. A great big for the two Impulse albums. The second one includes Sonny Stitt, a good thing as Martha would say. All three Riverside albums are excellent; near essential I would say. Ritual---not essential, but good. OK, so I like Blakey!
  21. Was it me, or did Wynton seem determined to not look at Stewart for the first half of the interview?
  22. What a handsome dude. (Not that I usually notice that sort of thing..... )
  23. How about: "Music that swings, and includes some element of improvisation." Like most single-sentence definitions, especially of jazz, it begs more questions than it answers. "The sound of surprise" and "Jazz is freedom" are fine with me also. How about: "The opposite of Kenny G"?
  24. Are there any majors that AREN'T dropping jazz artists?
