Just arrived in the mail:
Seems like Bill Evans-philes don't talk about this record much, but I think this pairing of Evans and Manne works wonderfully.
Jean-Luc Ponty Experience - Open Strings (MPS/PAUSA, rec. 1971)
with a powerhouse Euro/American band: Philip Catherine (g); Joachim Kühn (p); Peter Warren (b); and Oliver Johnson (d).
Frank Capp / Nat Pierce - Juggernaut (Concord, 1977)
It's a bit disconcerting (pun intended) how much these guys sound like the Basie band. They may as well have been a "tribute band" -- but Basie & his band were still doing their thing in 1977. Tribute acts usually come after the original no longer exists. Not here though.

NP:
Tim Berne's Bloodcount - Lowlife: The Paris Concert, Vol. 1 (JMT, 1994)
Tim Berne (as); Chris Speed (ts, cl); Marc Ducret (g); Michael Formanek (b); Jim Black (d)
Powerful and strange music. Berne doesn't mess around.
Giving this another spin:
This LP is more slick & commercial than the other Irakere records I've heard.
But I really dig it! It's infectious, irresistible music -- even if the "jazz quotient" is lower.
