  1. Looks like it might be very interesting. Thanks for sharing, Mike.
  2. Recent vinyl purchases: Terumasa Hino Sextet - Fuji (Catalyst, licensed from Victor Japan, 1972) Hoping this is as good as Taro's Mood (Enja, 1973). Both LPs feature the same excellent rhythm section: Mikio Masuda, Yoshio Ikeda, & Motohiko Hino. Rusty Bryant - For the Good Times (Prestige, 1973) Funny that we were discussing Bryant elsewhere on the forum earlier this week, and then I stumbled across this LP today in Wax & Facts. ... I have the four records that preceded this one; they're compiled on Bryant's two Legends of Acid Jazz CDs. But I've not heard For the Good Times. I'm guessing it's as much funk as jazz. Irakere - 2 (Columbia) Irakere's final record for Columbia before changing political tides put an end to that relationship.
  3. I really like that one. Along with Rough House, I think it's best of his early (pre-Gramavision) stuff.
  4. NP: After a long, hectic day at work, this is hitting the spot.
  5. As long as it's just a song or two, I'm OK with it. But Jimmy Rushing he ain't! Earlier:
  6. Right on, mjzee. I think that's one of Baker's very best records -- not just from late in his life, from any period.
  7. Good stuff indeed.
  8. Sides 3 & 4 -- Lester with John Lewis on piano from 1950 and 1951
  9. I dig it! FWIW, I suppose I'd give it a solid 4 stars (using Downbeat's 5-star scale).
  10. For years, I've listened to this music as MP3s, downloaded from emusic.com. A few weeks ago, I decided to upgrade for better sound -- but the CD is oop in the U.S. So I ordered the Solid reissue from Japan. Just got it today. Also got this Black & Blue / Solid reissue for the same reason: Two of my Black & Blue favorites. Hank Jones and George Duvivier play on both of these records. 😁
  11. Hmm. I only own two of the live Kubelik Mahler recordings on Audite: Sym. No. 5 and Das Lied von der Erde. If you were in my shoes, which one (or two) would you get next??? Which ones are especially special?
  12. Inspired by soulpope's post above, I'm now listening to Mahler's Second Symphony. This Bruno Walter recording is an old favorite. Would love to hear that Kubelik M2 on Audite. But it's hard to justify buying more recordings of these works when you already own a half-dozen (or more) of each. And there are so many other musical worlds to explore too! Even so, I'll probably buy them eventually.
  13. and So great!!!
  14. Found this recently in a local shop's dollar bin: Not terrible. Not great. About what you'd expect.
  15. Yes, I was thinking the same thing! Buster is a complete Bad Ass. Then and now.
