  1. I'm a partial disc collector as well. I've got 2/4 of the Blue Mitchell and 2/3 of the Curtis Fuller. Also 1/3 of the Grachan Moncur. Anyone know where to get booklets?
  2. I spotted a copy of Kenny Dorham's "Trompeta Toccata" with some highlighting done on the booklet with a magic marker. It's available in a local store for $8, I think. CD looks in pretty good shape with a mark or two outside the playing area. (going by memory here.) The previous owner did quite a bit of marking on that booklet however...
  3. Imagine how late it is over here. I better shower and go to bed.
  4. You have many posts and drink a lot of beer. We could share many thoughts. Conn-che
  5. What do you like about the jazz-board community? Fuck. wbe. That's an aggressive post. Conn-che
  6. I'm starting to warm up to this idea of banning people. Let JC keep all the loonies. It doesn't hurt to be a bit selective.
  7. My response to Che's banning: yawn.... The guy was irritating.
  8. I won't be going folks, because it isn't worth it just to see you guys for 45 minutes. I'm thinking about that Detroit gig though. Where on Livernoise? Will I be able to walk out of the club alive afterwards?
  9. You've got to listen to "Brown Sugar" again, Al. I felt the same way you did initially, seeing it as an average date. Roach is so subtle that it starts to hit you with repeated listenings. Listen to how well Joe and Freddie work together on "All Night Long." "The Midnight Sun will never Set" is ethereally beautiful. Freddie's organ is like gossamer. Beautiful stuff! I haven't heard "Down to Earth," but I agree that "Mo Greens Please" is the best on Blue Note. That cd is good from start to finish. I would rate "Brown Sugar" as an easy four stars (out of 5). Didn't care for "Good Move" when I had it. I obviously need to listen to it again. I no longer have the cd.
  10. no we all drive in the backseat with our parents Pass the gum. ...and plant it in Catesta's toupee when he's not looking!
  11. Where's the Lonnie Smith in that list? You'll have to include "Move your Hand," Jim.
  12. How about a publicly revised opinion? Man, I love Freddie Roach! How do you describe his style? He layers these textures... No real pyrotechnics, but he is so frigging sweet! Jimmy would play this way sometimes, but Freddie does it all the time! I've got "Brown Sugar" and "Mo Greens Please" along with the two Ike Quebecs. I just ordered the twofer on Prestige. I can't get enough Freddie Roach!
  13. I'm having a couple of Heineken's this evening, Wes-style...alone! B-)
  14. People think, they just don't think long term. I bought a Land Rover because I wanted my co-workers to think I was successful. Saving money on gas or car payments isn't going to get me anywhere. I can't take it with me! I need 8 cylinders and enough horsepower to get me through a shallow river, especially in the suburbs where the local government has the budget to keep the roads well paved. Not to mention the leather interior. These are all modern day necessities. You all are stuck in the past.
  15. I've got a 4-cylinder Toyota Camry. Gets good miliage. I'm happy with it. Gas prices not bothering me right now.
  16. The idea is to drink beer when you want to be lazy.
  17. General rule for me regarding beers: The stronger stuff is better. I don't have to drink as many, so I'm not loading up calories. Why drink 6 Old Milwaukee to equal the effect of 3 Beck's?
  18. Boy how things change! I drink beer once or twice per week. I like the imported stuff and the microbrews. Haven't drank Old mold since college, so I cannot really respond to Wes' comments. Maybe it wouldn't taste bad right now. Anyway, reading all this makes me thirsty! But I'll hold off till Friday. On the other hand, I might visit a friend tomorrow evening to listen to some jazz. I'll have to bring along some foreign beer. Canadian beer is the cheap stuff for me; and very potable! I'm gonna put on "Speak Like a Child" and hit the sack...
  19. I once left my wallet at a public phone at the train station in Nagono, Japan when I was in my 20s. I rushed back after a half hour or so, and there it was undisturbed and everything. Those Japanese....
  20. Paul, What's your source for Florida being a "bubble" state? Local and national press listed Florida amongst a handful of States where the real estate values have jumped far beyond the national norm. I threw the newspapers away and I'm not an internet guy, so I can't quote sources. Perhaps it depends on the area, but there is some concern about how fast real estate prices have jumped as we approach an environment where 10-year treasury yields are moving up for the first time in about three years. I think Arizona was another "bubble" State, but I don't recall. I remember Florida as one because my parents live there. Their condo value has doubled in value since 2001! This is just general information. It may or may not apply. I think you're right in that it will hurt refinancing, but people will still buy and sell homes. The concern in States such as Florida is that many of the homes are being bought by people who plan to re-sell for a profit. If carrying costs rise and demand cools to any great extent, then we have problems. I am not a real estate expert; and I don't believe that real estate "bubbles" are as volatile as stock market bubbles. Maybe these things continue for years. I would imagine that it should be easily researchable on the internet.
  21. Great news, Scott! Couldn't have ended better. I trust the camera is undamaged? I once left my briefcase in the parking lot of the bank. I had placed it on the ground before opening my car door and forgot to put it in the car. I called the bank the next day, and luckily one of the tellers had picked it up. There had been some hesitation in that some people may have thought there was a bomb inside or something. But that was a very dumb thing for me to do. I had all kinds of important stuff in there (along with a bunch of crap.) Whewww! Somehow, these things work out. I'm really glad to hear you got your camera back. We can learn from these close calls.
  22. Great news, Al! Do any of your duties involve trading? You're awfully good at that!
  23. All the best, Dan! Mortgage rates are on the way up and Florida is listed as one of the real estate "bubble" States, but a good man always finds a way to to a good job. Probably not the greatest time to enter the business, but enthusiasm and effort will go a long way.
  24. How do you know she won't call you again? You might pick up the phone one day and find her on the other end.
