  1. We need a Johnny forum with the option of ignoring it. B) Nevermind, that's politics.
  2. Hey! Welcome Johnny! Come baaaaaaaaaccckkk! Crap! Now he knows where I hang out when I'm hiding from his political posts.
  3. Nah. You're winning a buck every time you don't buy one! Personal experience, Moose?
  4. What with my football team (New England Patriots) having such a kickbutt year? We're doing NOTHING about it, thank you!!!
  5. Errr SS: Johnny E. would say the same for our football thread. Pleeeeze!
  6. You sure you got the right board here??
  7. Oohhh Brad! Not this again... I always vote to "add" rather than "take away." Christ, I hate the damned audio section myself. Shall I start a poll?? (I know I'd get my butt kicked on that one.) If you no likee, then stay away. Personally, I post only rarely there, but I do like having it around nevertheless. I have started to post a few more times lately, but I still don't plan to comment much on politics.
  8. I once won an album for being the "third caller" or something of that sort. Had to travel downtown and pick the thing up. It was used, and the music sucked. I normally don't win things because I don't even enter my name into contests. I don't think I've ever bought a lottery ticket in my life. Wouldn't know how to. Maybe I should...
  9. Johnny just can't handle the fact that the ONE football thread has gotten more play and duration than any of his political threads. B)
  10. I was afraid that this would eventually become public.
  11. Aha!! Johnny, you sneaking some peaks in the football section?? You sly dog...a closet fan! Or are you just keeping an eye on Conn?
  12. This is the only Bud Powell RVG that I own. Would like to pick up volume 1 someday for Une Poca loca (if I spelled that right.) This is difficult music for me. The mood changes are apparent. There's much beauty in these songs. I personally get bothered by lots of alternate tracks, but others don't seem to mind. The tunes are all short and we get glimpses of Powell's keyboard mastery with all the right hand runs. There is a sense of brooding throughout. How do you guys rate the three volumes as far as which is best?
  13. Some coaches are in big trouble. Davis in Cleveland may be one of them, though I think he's a good coach. Williams in Buffalo is dead meat. Gruden is probably the most overrated coach of all. Is Cowher in trouble in Pittsburgh? He's a good coach as well. San Diego should fire Schottenheimer, who sucks. Callahan in Oakland is toast. San Fran coach is in deep trouble as well.
  14. Feeling real good right now a day after the game. I even dreamed about McGinnest's game-saving tackle on Edgerrin James last night: replayed it over in my dreams to show what a sick individual I must be. B) The Pats are the best team in football right now. We are 6-0 this season against teams with winning records and we've defeated the Titans (9-2), the Colts (9-3), the Eagles (9-3) and the Dolphins (8-4) And of those four games, only one was at home! Cripes! I can't believe how good we are! I don't know if KC has defeated teams with those records. I know they beat the Dolphins, but have they played many teams with winning records? Still, I know they are a very good football team with lots of offensive weapons like Indy has. Dolphins coming to town; and we've got three of the last four games at home. Lookin' good! (Sorry Evan!) Important game for you guys tonight, Jim as the Colts are coming in to Tennessee next week. Actually, I think the Titans have to beat the Colts no matter the outcome of tonight's game, owing to tiebreaks and such. Good luck!
  15. Great post, Barak. I don't know very much about Ben-Gurion and I'll have to read up on this great leader.
  16. What, we're supposed to stop posting then? I swear, no one ever told me! Well--how do I explain this?--Moose. Bovines like Mooses (Meeses? B) ) get old and their antlers start chipping and breaking (something to do with a lifetime diet of moss,) and...well...there's a time we've got to just lead em back out to the wilderness to allow nature to take its course.
  17. Great story that brings tears to my eyes, Ed. We live in a throwaway culture in throwaway times. Most of the stuff we throw away would be valued in other cultures.
  18. After many years, she's used to my nonsense. (For the record, she's a year younger than me and has definitely kept her looks--unlike me.)
  19. Do you check out SchoolKids too when you are in Ann Arbor? He has some great prices on new and current releases. He had the Miles Jack Johnson box priced lower than anywhere else I could find, among lots of other good deals. The only problem is finding parking on a weekday! Sounds vaguely familiar, Greg, but I'm not sure I know where Schoolkids is. What street is it on? Used to visit the Allied Record Exchange there as well but stopped since they suck as far as jazz holdings go.
  20. Nice story Wesbed. Great topic idea too, I think. I have a tendency to wear clothes until the degenerate into rags. My old bedroom furniture I had as a kid is now in my son's room. Man, that's special to me in some loony way. I like my old chess sets and stuff even though they get beat up a bit from blitz games and repeated games. I've got an old hardbound dictionary that is in tatters, but I won't let it go. Many cool words are underlined. I drive cars until they are ready for the junk heap. I stick with the old wife, and all my old friends...you guys get the idea.
  21. Actually, both you and Chuck make good points. My suggestion would be to have the RVG of the month along with the AOW along with the Greazy selection of the month, along with the new artist of the month or whatever. Should be space for all. No one should feel excluded.
  22. Now that would have been interesting. Never heard that before. Anyone else have any information about this? Think it was in some "History of Jazz" book I checked out of the library a couple of years ago. Can't, for the life of me, remember the author. Hi Matthew & Morganized, I've heard that same story as well. I'm pretty sure Ruth Lion was the one who mentioned it when she was interviewed for that Blue Note Documentary released on VHS a few years ago. She also went on to lament how it was one of Alfred's (and Blue Note's) darkest times when "another, bigger record company came along and snatched Jimmy up" in the 60's. I have to say I agree with her on that one! Cheers, Shane Shane's correct here. Ruth Lion gives this story on the VHS Story of Blue Note.
