Aaah it will be easy for you guys next week. The Raiders are on tap. (Must be nice to be in an easy division ) Half the Raiders are to be suspended for steroids.
-
How about Duke Pearson, "Merry Ol Soul?" I have never heard it, but am planning to buy it when it comes out on JRVG. It will also be on the Pearson Mosaic due out soon.

Man, I hope not. The tension should be immense and hopefully this will be a nice, tight game. It hasn't felt this good to be a Dallas fan in a long time. Right now I'm just killing time with an uneventful Miami/Baltimore game. Blah. I'm the N.E. fan, Joe C., but I cannot claim that either team BADLY needs this game. Both are comfortably leading their divisions. I have a good healthy respect for Dallas and it won't be easy. I'm just assuming the Pats will find a way just as they have all season. As or Cincy and K.C. I CALLED IT!!!

The Organissimo tribute CD
connoisseur series500 replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
Probably wouldn't hurt to throw in a Latin or Bossa Nova tune or two. You've got the drummer for it; that's for sure. -
I'm sure that everyone here can figure out that I'm a big user of emoticons. I think it is critical to use them in discussion as how else would people know that I'm joking? I find myself missing emoticons when I'm typing a normal email.

I'm a little late to make picks as the games have already begun, but I've got two upset picks this week: Bungles will beat KC! Yes, you heard it here. Giants will defeat Philly. I think Fassell will get his team pumped. I believe NE will defeat Dallas in a heavyweight matchup this evening.

Great sessions that are....

I've listened to it about four times now, Leeway; not enough to give a full critique but let me just tell you that this is as good as anything else I've got. Beautiful playing by Cedar Walton. Cliff Jordan is not on all the tracks. Look up "Live at Boomers" (Cedar Walton) in AMG and you will see that Yanow likes the two sessions as well. This 32jazz reissue covers both the live sessions. I mean, "how much of a bargain do you need?" You will not be disappointed. It is simply beautiful music. -

Here's a good one: Don Patterson, "Genius of the B-3" for $4.99 on Dusty's. I picked one up recently. I'm listening to it and can confirm it's a good session. -
I'm pretty sure that we ALL agree on this. No need to divide us all on this issue. We are all unanimous when it comes to this matter.

Rooster will act as a DJ for Andrew Hill selections, Free, while you're blowing yourself up doing wiring. Seriously, Congrats on your new house. Yeah, they're money pits but so what?! -
The Organissimo tribute CD

Hey! That was me! Any doubts, boys, just listen to Jimmy Smith tackle it on "the Master." Listen to that and you're listening to God himself on the organ. I stick with my nomination of "Laura." -

Okay, let me clarify for everyone: Give us examples of stuff that is generally cheap as opposed to something which is cheap RIGHT NOW!! (Of course, it wouldn't hurt to tell us what's cheap right now as well. ) And what's cheap? Say, generally under $10 or around that. How's that? -

No examples, Moose? Shit, I thought you were king of chea...oops I mean king of...er bovine-like creatures with horns! -
Good idea, SS

I just bought Cedar Walton's "Naima: Live at Boomer's" today in a store. I think I paid $8 or something (I try not to remember prices ) AND I was thinking...man this is GREAT!!! It sounds as good as just about anything else I've got. Half.com offers used copies for the $4-5 range and this should be a great bargain. So often we go chasing expensive cds when cheap but excellent stuff is sitting there under our noses. Give some other examples...
-
I bought it back because of YOU!!! So I better like it. (I know I will) Especially since you're my virtual shadow (or I'm yours) as far as musical tastes go.
-
We agree on that, SS. In the meantime, did I tell you that I picked up "Alligator Bogaloo?" It was ordered by mail. I got on Barnes& Noble and listened to their hi-fi cuts and was impressed enough to give it another try. I think I will like it this time.

Can't agree, SS. The robot had to close the thread. Imagine having your name pilloried on such a negative thread when all you did was send an impolite--yes--but hardly "abusive" personal message. Such things should have been ironed out in pms. Imagine how Underground feels about having his name highlighted in such a negative manner. No one (other than Musicboy ) deserves that kind of treatment. If Jazzhound had been cheated in some way then that is a far different matter. But that wasn't the case at all. Have to agree with the robot for acting as he did. That thread wasn't helpful to anyone.

That is abusive. You should apologize. He already did, SS. In the meantime, don't you think it abusive to call for the banisment of another board member?? -

Gotta polish up the personality a bit there, Underground. Come on...isn't it a bit of stretch to demand the banishment of a board member as a result of a pm?? It is generally disappointing to me personally that the subject of "banishment" so quickly arises when there is a dispute on this board. One of the unfortunate legacies of the GregM situation. Can we all stop using that term? -

I will also put in a good word for Underground. I've made several exchanges with him and he has always followed through. Jazzhound: I did make an offer once on something Underground had and he replied with what I interpreted as a rather rude response, but I have since come to realize that language can often be an imprecise form of communication. Underground and I worked out our issues through pms. I like Underground. He drives a tough bargain sometimes, but he can be downright helpful and accommodating. I can sometimes drive hard bargains myself. I also feel that Underground has made some serious price modifications on his stuff as a result of getting to know some of us here a bit better (including myself.) I think he has definitely come down on his pricing. He is a valuable resource for finding stuff as he gets access to all kinds of stuff up there in Toronto; and he's always willing to share them with boardmembers. He also has been making valuable comments on other threads as well. Give him another chance, Jazzhound. Underground is a decent fellow. In general, we all have our own personalities on this board; but in the end, we have to treat each other as brothers. I certainly try to. You guys are all my friends. Underground is a good guy. I am happy that he participates here; and I thank him for our exchanges both past, present, and future!! -

I do it the Moose way, only I might skip politics altogether. Been posting a bit over there lately however. Hmm, I'll have to curb that before it becomes a habit! -

My DIY skills relate to waiting till my father visits me to fix up my place. He's 69 years old and has failing eyesight and trembling fingers, but he knows what to do. I just stand at the back, hand him tools, scowl, and see if I can sneak on some jazz tunes to relieve the boredom. B) -
Soul jazz recommendations
connoisseur series500 replied to connoisseur series500's topic in Recommendations
agreed, see my earlier post, it's superficially appealing , but its lack of depth means only the absolutely grooviest of tracks (Mercy....) remain of interest after the first play through. This session convinced me of the superiority of Adderly's earlier work on Emarcy and Riverside. I put my money where my mouth is: I've just unloaded "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy" and have just repurchased "Alligator Bogaloo." Obviously, I agree with Clunky. And SS, I'm giving Alligator another try and this time I know I will like it. I go through moods, I guess.
