  1. One of the high points, for me, is that Tyrone does NOT sound like Joe Henderson. Well that's a first impression, Chuck. Haven't been able to listen closely yet. BTW, what's wrong with Joe Henderson??
  2. One of my next door neighbors seems to own every possible noisy machine in existence. I'm not sure that they all save much labor, but they sure are noisy. I just use a lawn mower and another machine that acts like a mower: picks up leaves and mulches them. I use the latter machine sparingly as it is not self-propelled. It's tough pushing that thing all around the lawn.
  3. "Natural Essence" just arrived yesteday and I had the chance to give it a quick spin. Definitely need to listen to it more as there's obvious depth to the music. Early impressions indicate a very good session. Tyrone Washington sounds a lot like Joe Henderson. It's amazing. More comments later after I spin it a few more times.
  4. My upset pick of the week is Buffalo over Dallas. Bills need the win and they'll get it. Wouldn't count your boys out of it today, SS. I smell possible upset in KC.
  5. "Yes, I did pull out my cds before the car went under."
  6. "Look, sir! We are simply unable to give you a live transmission of Michael Cuscuna shuffling about in the Blue Note vaults."
  7. "Aww Crap! Wasn't this supposed to be in pink?"
  8. Be careful it's not a phony address in Mars established by some unscrupulous Nigerians.
  9. I like this. :rsmile:
  10. Why do they have that picture of that pretty girl on the package with a beatific smile in the company of Mr. Mircrophone? Something's suspicious here!
  11. Mr. Jones saunters into town secure in his knowledge that he got the better of his wife in the divorce settlement. -_-
  12. Hey Cary, Keep the pics to a minimum. Want to keep the female fans at bay here! Wouldn't want to overwhelm the site with young screaming gals!
  13. This is definitely something to build on, Couw!
  14. My apologies, David, for being so parochial in my thinking. I forgot that our membership spans all these continents. Well, chalk it up as another dumb Connoisseur idea. But if this is at all possible, at least to define a meeting place for US members, a big city like NY might scare away some of us Midwesterners here! We should perhaps hold parallel summits: one in USA; one in Europe. I leave it up to you offshore guys to work tht one out.
  15. A modest Connoisseur donation on the way: don't spend it all at once!
  16. I don't believe so.
  17. We should set up a get together sometime to be held in a centrally-located part of the country. It would be fun to meet everyone in person. We would have to rent out a hotel banquet hall or something and have stereo equipment rented for the occasion. Can you imagine the music fights? Rooster: Dan, I can't take any more of that Gene Harris crap! Dan: Well Andrew Hill's music sounds like my flushing toilet!! Soul Stream (to the DJ): Don't forget; Big John's on next! DJ: Sorry SS, but Jacknife insists that we repeat this Dodo Green selection! You guys get the idea.... er, maybe this wouldn't be such a good suggestion.
  18. I'd be happy to chip in, of course. The whole business of Jim handling all the costs for everyone has been on my mind for some time now.
  19. my wife yelling at me to go to bed.
  20. I scored a 6 which isn't bad considering I don't own any Dolphy and I don't care for his music generally. I do have Coltrane's "Ole" and "Live at Village Vanguard," along with Hill's "Point of Departure." Well I guess I do own "Iron Man," though I have no idea who he dedicated that to. I respect him as a musician but he's not my cup of tea.
  21. I'll second that. Count me in if there is room for the clueless Lots of room, knife; too much room in fact as everyone else here seems to be as sharp as razors when it comes to identifying songs. Jim, howsabout a kind of idiot disc for knife and myself?? You know, full of easily itentifiable stuff from Blue Note's classic period. No Three Sounds though; all their songs sound alike and we wouldn't be able to locate the title without listening to the whole library!! Just kidding, baby BRING IT ON!!
  22. Cool! Is this vintage Horace footage, or is it different players handling the tune? I guess I'll find out soon enough as the DVD is on its way.
  23. Well said, SS. Patton's misfortune was to blossom during Blue Note's dying days--a flower growing in an desert. So sad, because his 1968-9 sessions were simply outstanding.
