  1. NFL is the best run sports league. No need for any competition. NBA needs some competition. It's full of glory-hungry individuals, who have gotten away from basketball fundamentals and team play.
  2. Would have been cool if Paul Shaffer would have shut the fuck up!
  3. Patriot backup DE, Maquise Hill is missing in a Louisiana lake after a jet ski accident. Doesn't look good. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2884762 Hill was a disappointment on the field, and looked like a second round "bust," but if he's dead, he goes out a hero. He helped keep his partner calm even after they drifted away from each other. I hope he somehow survives.
  4. I liked the show so much, I bought the book...and read it!
  5. I like Leo Szillard. He was the prototypical head-in-the-clouds scientist. Einstein is everyone's favorite. I've got 2-3 books on Oppenheimer, so I must like him. Do mathmeticians count? Alan Turin was a fascinating guy.
  6. Interesting to see how the Commish deals with Tank Johnson. Media is expecting a suspension for half the season.
  7. Another year gone by? Happy Birthday!
  8. I have never had a job yet where I was able to listen to any kind of music. Perhaps that will change one day.
  9. Favorites going into training camp: AFC 1. NE Patriots 2. Indianapolis Colts 3. San Diego Chargers 4. Baltimore Ravens 5. Denver Broncos 6. Cincinnati Bengals upcomer: Jacksonville Jaguars NFC 1. Chicago Bears 2. New Orleans Saints 3. Carolina Panthers 4. Seattle Seahawks 5. Philadelphia Eagles upcomer: SF 49ers.
  10. I've got most of Tony Monaco's cds, and I believe the best is his latest: "East to West." All his cds are good though. I saw Tony once in Ann Arbor. He's really laid back and he's a terrific showman. Awesome live player. Great technically, but also full of soul. Jim A's good too!
  11. I agree Barry's a good ball player, but I also think the home run record is more than a statistic. It's a BIG deal. I think it carries more weight than just about any other sports record. Can you tell me who the current world record holder in the 100m dash is? Or who holds the record for most points in a career in basketball? Or who's caught the most TD passes in the NFL in their career? If anyone knows these off the top of their head, I'd be impressed. But I think just about everyone in the country knows Hank Aaron holds the U.S. record for home runs. PS - The world record is held by Sadaharu Oh of the Yomiuri Giants - 868 homers. True, Agg, but remember that baseball (of all the sports) is most statistics-oriented. Stats don't mean as much in other sports. Winning does.
  12. Those guys are aggressive. I'd think twice before buying one of those cannibals.
  13. Your arguments are compelling, Dan, but my problem is that we don't know how many other sluggers over the last decade or so were also 'roiding up. Maybe even Ruth took some kind of special snake oil in the 20s/30s which would be banned today. I still think Barry's feat is tremendous--steroids or no. Home run record is just a statistic. Anyone in the top 30-40 list were GREAT ballplayers.
  14. Man, lots of hate for Barry Bonds. I guess his personality was hardly endearing, but steroids or no steroids--hitting all those homers is still a feat. He's got to go down in history as one of the best power hitters in the game.
  15. I don't even follow the fight game much, but it seemed a mismatch on paper going in. I can't recall the last big fight won by De La Hoya. This one seemed easy to predict.
  16. I wouldn't have done that. I don't think that De La Hoya will be able to land much of anything. Mayweather is too good.
  17. I believe that is the bassoon you're referring to (aka the "farting bedpost"). Most orchestral trombone parts consist of several hundred bars of rests.
  18. It's Monday morning and I'm wondering where the weekend went. I had my face in the draft the last couple days.
  19. His books were very entertaining.
  20. I felt that way even before we got Moss. Our second day draft has been pretty crappy, however. Lots of developmental players and flat out tossaways. Loaded up for next year's draft, though, with 2 first rounders, 1 second round, and 2 third round picks.
  21. I now answer my telephone: "Randy Moss' residence!"
  22. Moss was quoted as saying he would redo his contract only for a team like NE. He wants to win. SS1 told me on the phone that Randy had lost a step. Pats timed him a few weeks ago in Florida, and he ran a 4.29, 40-yards.
