Today over at AAJ there is a review for Booker Ervin's "The Freedom Book" (amazing recording by the way), and in the body of the article the reviewer mentions a new "remastered edition", and a picture shows an RVG of this title. I didn't know this one was part of the RVG series....does anyone know about this? Its not on Concord's current list of RVG remasters. A part of the next batch perhaps??
The Kerouac scroll on which he typed On The Road is currently on display at one of the museums here in Santa Fe. It's part of a fascinating exhibit which includes books, music, photos, videos, etc..
I believe a 50th anniversary edition of On The Road will be published this year.
Yeah, I heard about that exhibit....I hope it makes its way to Chicago. I 'm loving this book. The fact that the main character's name is "Sal" is a nice bonus!
The new edition of On the Road is supposed to contain additional material that was somehow censored from the original verison.
Yes, but at this point in your life, could you use some more Sonny Rollins, Hank Mobley, Booker Little, George Coleman, and Stanley & Tommy Turrentine???
edit to add, that all of the above are in peak form!
I feel similarly about this group. They were really excellent.....one of the best bands I've ever heard on a recording.
When I first heard recordings of this band, I used to wonder how this group would have sounded with a different musician on tenor, as Cliff Jordan sounded a bit tame at times. But I soon came to realize that when you are a reedman playing next to Eric Dolphy, unless you're John Coltrane, its pretty difficult not to sound tame!
Aside from the most obvious characters who may meet their doom (Christopher, Paulie, Phil), I'm getting the feeling that someone from the Soprano household will get it as well.
I think he still might be gigging around with the organ trio. Saw them play about a year ago....didn't care for them too much. He's a fine player, though.
The White Stripes have a new one coming out in June. I'm digging Jack Whites stuff lately...the last Stripes album and the Ranconteurs were both excellent. Can't wait to hear this new one.
I'm really enjoying the new Nine Inch Nails release "Year Zero".
Bloc Party is another band I recently discovered....great stuff to listen to while walking or driving through a city.
