I saw it last night as well. My faith in the James Bond franchise has been restored. This movie was excellent, and Daniel Craig makes a terrific Bond. The cinematic surprise of 2006?

Perhaps you should have re-phrased this as "for the people on this board who don't have the disposable income to buy the 2 CD set....." I don't see how the inability to purchase every jazz CD out there no matter what the price equates to not "taking jazz seriously"...

Never saw this one, and just added to my netflix queue. Edit to share my favorite Altman film, which is "The Player".

I've been without my favorite Christmas album of all time for my last two Christmases since giving my original copy to my then-girlfriend. Saw today at Borders that it was just re-issued in 24 bit and decided to spring for it with the coupon. I think people will be shocked at what a job the engineers did with this re-mastering. The bass and brush work are SO clear now, that I'm hearing things that I never heard before. Not sure yet how I feel about this. There's no doubt that the sound is vastly improved, but with an album this familiar, it almost sounds like a different recording. Anyways, for any fans of this holiday classic, you might want to check this out. You will notice a difference.

I'm so sad about this. What a fine filmmaker he was. I had an opportunity to meet the man several years back at a film premiere, and he was a very kind and intelligent individual. I have all the respect in the world for him for being an original, influential, and talented filmmaker who pretty much operated completely outside of the Hollywood system that had outcasted him so early in his career. A true film maverick. Rest in peace.

I think its a good enough disc, but make sure you have all his great recordings from the 50s and 60s first. Those are light years ahead of his newer stuff.

Count me in as a big fan of Miles in Berlin. I love the Sam Rivers date, but as was mentioned earlier, Wayne was definitely the missing piece of the puzzle, and at least for me, hearing Berlin just gives the sense of everything coming together. The dates with George Coleman for me are the least satisfying. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of George, but just not with this band. It still makes for some fine jazz, but with that rhythm section, its hard not to hear the sound of a band being held back.

Wow.....two happy endings! I must admit, when I first read this thread, I chuckled, as I didn't think there would be any way in hell this problem could get resolved. But it did.....twice! That's really something.

It gets better. Each successive disc is better than the one before it IMO. I am really not much of a fan of big band music, but this set smokes. This band was hot!

I've enjoyed my copies of "Freak Out", "Absolutely Free" and "We're only in it for the Money" for years now. Having recently acquired "Hot Rats", "The Grand Wazoo" and "Waka Jawaka" and being astounded at the genius of this man, I am realizing that my lack of Zappa material could be a major hole in my musical life. What other essentials am I missing?
