  1. Wouldn't that be great.....
  2. Also, I also enjoy RZA's "Bobby Digital" CD, as well as Cappadona's "The Pillage", but I wouldn't say they're essential. Anyways, as for my favorite non-jazz releases this year, I liked these quite a bit: Bob Dylan - "Modern Times" Paul Simon - "Surprise" Neil Young - "Living With War" Flaming Lips - "At War With the Mystics"
  3. Throw Method Man's "Tical" and Ol' Dirty Bastard's "Return to the 36 Chambers" to this list, and you've got 6 of the greatest hip hop albums of all time.
  4. My favorite new releases this year were: Andrew Hill - "Time Lines" Trio Beyond - "Saudedes" Ornette Coleman - "Sound Grammar" My favorite reissue was Warne Marsh's "Ne Plus Ultra"
  5. Nice! Please let us know when its availiable for purchase.
  6. I'll be heading to South Carolina to spend Christmas with my dad and his wife's family. It will be my first Christmas in a warm climate. I'm actually looking forward to it. Otherwise, its been a very nice holiday season. Normally, I get somewhat sad as I don't really have much family (I'm an only child) and my dad lives out of state. But I've been quite happy lately....been eating some good food, keeping the workload under control, spending more time with friends, seeing alot of movies, and listening to alot of music. For the rest of my life, every time I listen to Ray Charles' Atlantic stuff, I'll be thinking of Christmas 2006. I hope everyone who is having hard times, or is just plain blue, that things pick up and that you end up enjoying the rest of the year.

    Wynton Marsalis

I'd add his appearance on Chico Freeman's Destiny's Dance to that list. (Hard to imagine him keeping that kind of company these days) When I interviewed Wynton in April, 1982, he said that "Destiny's Dance" was a very poor experience for him because Chico Freeman did not know the changes to his own songs, and that he would not be getting involved in any projects with musicians like that again. What a douche bag.
  8. Its a brilliant, sad film. Spike's best work since Malcolm X.
  9. I had no idea about that! Thanks Bentsy. Yet another reason why this is so sad.
  10. Now good thru Christmas eve!
  11. With jazz, as long as one's sweetheart is somewhat tolerant and doesn't bitch, one should be grateful.
  12. I saw this group live with board members sheldonm and ejp626. What a trip it was. An excellent show!
  13. Yes! And Deluge.
  14. Romans 1:26-27 1 Corinthians 6:9 1 Peter somewhere, I can't find it now Jude, verse 7 PS - I'm not finding what I thought in 1 Peter. Don't forget good ol' Leviticus 20:13
  15. I'm saddened by this news. Best wishes to his loved ones.
  16. Its definitely mine!!
  17. This is an excellent disc. Haven't listened to it as much, but every time it plays I'm always taken back by how good the music is. Definitely one of the best new releases of 2006.
  18. I haven't heard any of those. Any particular recommendations? Guy Matthew Shipp's releases on Thirsty Ear are all worth checking out. But for what you are looking for, I'd recommend "Harmony and Abyss", which sounds more like jazz-influenced electronica, whereas his other releases like "Nu Bop" and "Equilibrium" are more like electronica-influenced jazz. All three of them are excellent.
  19. Wow....I wish I could go back to when I discovered these! What a sensation.

    Ahmet Ertegun

Best wishes to him and his family.
  21. Devin Hester. Rookie of the Year.
  22. I listened to the Rolling Stones more than any other artist this year, although Ray Charles is creeping up there with my recent purchase of the Atlantic box set. As far as jazz goes, I'd say I listened the most to Andrew Hill's "Time Lines" and the Miles Davis Cellar Door box set. Andrew Hill, Jackie McLean, Miles Davis and John Coltrane got lots of play this year.
  23. Wow.... If I hadn't just bought that Ray Charles box set, I'd be tempted to use this and spring for that John Cassavetes set from Criterion.
  24. I've got Willie and Big Ben on my fantasy team. Unfortunately, I have a bye this week!
  25. I loved "Pi" and "Requiem for a Dream" as well. However, I think "The Fountain" eclipses them both. Aranofsky is one of the most exciting filmmakers alive today. I can't wait to see what he does next.
