  1. More so than Joey D's new release?? That shit is HOT, and I'm not even a huge fan of the B-3!
  2. I believe both are regular issues. Cool, thanks Chuck. I'll be picking both of them up regardless.
  3. Can anyone tell me if the copies of Art Pepper's "Winter Moon" and Bill Evans' "At Shelly's Manne Hole" are the K2s or the regular OJC's? The copies of the covers are not showing up on my screen. Thanks!
  4. Rest in peace, Syd. How sad this is...
  5. The K2's had the best sound, IMO. I'm sad to see them go.
  6. OK, just sprung for the Trio cd. Will post thoughts once I get it. For anyone interested in ordering from Rogue Art and can't read French, Michel from Rogue Art sent me the following translation from the order screen (which is not yet availiable in English): To help you to complete your order by credit card, Please find here below the translation of the page "your information", from top to bottom: - first name (prénom in French) - last name (nom in French) - address (adresse in french) - zip code (code postal in French) - Town (ville in french) - Country (pays in French) - email address (mail in French) - mode of payment (paiement in French): you have to select the 1st option that is "paiement par CB", that means "payemnt by credit card". After, you have to accept the general conditions of sale in the bottom of the page (click just ahed of the sentence "I accept...) and after to click on button "Accepter ma commande", that means "accept my order". Another page will appear where you have to confirm your order: you have to click on the button "paiement par carte bancaire" that means "payment by credit card". You will be then transfered to the bank protected server where the information requered are also in French. First you have to select your type of card by clicking either on CB, either on MasterCard or on Visa. After, you will have three information to enter, from top to bottom: - credit card number (numero de carte de crédit in French) - expiration date, month/year (date d'expiration, mois/année in French) - the three digit on the back of your card (3 derniers chiffres imprimés au dos (cryptogramm visuel) in French). and to click on the button "Valider" that means "validate". It is finished and, if everything is OK, we will receive a email from the bank that inform us we get an order. As soon as we get this email, we will send you the CD.
  7. Ouch....that's $52 for the three CD's! Guess that's not terrible since it is Roscoe Mithell after all. Not many other sax players I'd rather hear. I may just go ahead and spring for just the trio disc. The quintet disc has Corey Wilkes on it!!
  8. REALLY, REALLY want this disc, but 24 Euros plus shipping?
  9. Why did this thread have to be revived? I've been successfully (but not easily) resisting it since it came out. This is not making my life any easier.
  10. Can you please post a link? I'm not getting anything on Rogue Art by doing internet searches.... Thanks!
  11. Sorry to hear that, Mark.
  12. If I've had a disc for a number of years, have given it several serious listens, and still don't find myself returning to it on a regular basis, its gone. Unless its a Mosaic.

    William Parker

I love William's stuff too. He's one of the best contemporary jazz artists out there. I've purchased probalby 6 or 7 of his CDs in the past few years, but the one that sticks out for me is "Scrapbook". Love that one.
  14. What a day!!! I was expecting to take the afternoon off of work on Wednesday to watch England vs. Brazil. What a shocker.
  15. Will Crouch save them?
  16. I saw it last night....didn't like it. The movie looks and sounds really great. But it can't cover up the predictable story, EXTREMELY corny dialogue, and a wooden performance from Brandon Routhe that will make everyone miss Christopher Reeve that much more. The jokes were bad, and the emotion stale. Typical Hollywood crap. I'm starting to get really sick of these lackluster comic book adaptations that are supposedly the new wave of American action films. Its running its course fast. And this is coming from a big fan of comics.
  17. There are been many times where I'm listening to a Sonny Rollins record, and I think to myself, "This guy has to be the greatest sax player I've ever heard." Sonny is a true giant and one of my favorite musicians. Can't wait for the new record!
  18. I like the album, though not as much as I liked "Jumping the Creek" from last year. If you enjoyed "Which Way is East", which was his duet recording with Billy Higgins, I think that you'll be more inclined to like this. The two albums aren't necessarily very similar musically, but have similar "vibes" to them, IMO. And Lloyd only plays piano on one track, if I remember correctly.
  19. When i discovered this, I went back and cleaned probably 50 jewel cases. Worked like a charm.
  20. I saw the quartet something like 2 or 3 years ago. It was easily one of the best shows I've ever seen in my life.
  21. I really like "On the Rising of the 64 Paths".
  22. I'm in the same boat. I don't dislike the Tony Williams stuff, but it never really reached me either. This CD, however, is really something. Might be my favorite new release this year so far, along with the Andrew Hill.
  23. Try listening to Sidewinder full blast in a red 1987 BMW M6 speeding down Laurel Canyon and you will become a convert in about 10 seconds. Awesome!
  24. I've been on the prowl recently for some good, modern rock bands to get into (and have taken some cues from the thread devoted to this topic). I have been hearing about the Flaming Lips for a long time from some friends whose musical tastes I hold in high regard. I took a chance earlier this week and bought one of their CD's called "The Soft Bulletin". Needless to say I was quite unprepared for what I was about to hear. I was so surprised to hear these very personal, introspective lyrics written in a way that resembles pop music. The melodies of the songs are "poppy", and the choruses of most of the songs are memorable enough to remember after just one listen. Yet this is music that I could NEVER imagine getting any sort of mainstream popularity. This may be due to the absolutely incredible soundscapes that fill the backgrounds of these "pop" songs. I was COMPLETELY blown away by the beautiful background orchestrations that incorporate so many different instruments and sounds. It was a strange listening experience.....I had never quite heard any music like that in my life, but at the same time I knew that what I was hearing was very special, and I was enjoying it very much. I want to listen to the disc more, but I'm convinced that I'm now officially a Flaming Lips fan, and plan on exploring more of their albums. Anybody here a fan? Any recommendations for other good Flaming Lips albums?
