  1. This will be the most sexist post I ever write (I hope), but women can be idiots when it comes to this. Maybe it's my bitterness about my own failed relationships, but I think there's a lot of truth to the canard that women marry men assuming the men will change, and men marry women assuming the women won't change, and both parties are usually wrong.

  3. Haven't heard that particular description before...
  4. Welcome back, Randy! Sorry to hear about the troubles; I can't speak for anyone else, but a stroke is something I fear more than cancer or heart attacks. I'm glad you've been able to fight back against it. And the very idea that we wouldn't remember who you were...
  5. I think it's a mistake to think that this is something women do to appeal to guys...
  6. Laugh, Laugh by the Beau Brummels. I hadn't heard this song in at least a decade, maybe longer, and it sounds completely different to me now than it did then. Then, it was kind of Hollies-lite sounding, now I'm hearing Jefferson Airplane. Am I losing my mind?
  7. Remember that Star Trek episode when they visited a planet where everyone was a zombie except between 12:00 and 1:00 in the afternoon? They called it the Red Hour. During that time, folks could do as they pleased without consequence. I'm pretty sure that's what we're talking about here. Return of the Archo...wait; I'm not a trekkie!

  10. Fish and chips is such a great meal. Almost enough to earn forgiveness for the rest of England's culinary contributions...

  12. I have to admit, this thread is the first time I've seen the name.
  13. Louisiana #1??? I call bullshit.
  14. That Mitchell and Webb Look, season one. It doesn't all hit, but what does hit has me falling out of my chair!
  15. I get on these "serial obsessions", so I find it much cheaper to have books about some hobbies rather than engage in the hobbies themselves. By the time I'm through deciding exactly what I want to do in a hobby, I lose interest and move on. The model train books are right there next to the aquarium books...

  17. I hear it at work at least once a day, usually twice. The heartless bastards.
  18. Last decent burger I had in a restaurant was at Original Joe's in Napa. Fast food types are garbage as far as I'm concerned, though I have good memories of the Jack in the Box grilled sourdough burger. Probably because I haven't had one in many years to ruin the inflated memory.

  20. Yesterday I watched the last episode of Yes, Prime Minister. I'd never seen these before, and I'm happy to say that they're just as funny as the orginal series, thought the interplay between the characters is different. Sir Humphries doesn't always get the upperhand here, while Jim Hacker isn't nearly as sympathetic a character as in the original. Good stuff. Now I'm going through episodes of Terry Jones' Medieval Lives, so far an excellent series. A bit silly in spots, but it is Terry Jones after all. I'm happy to be alive and a history buff in a time when history is concerned with more than just the "big names at the top".

  22. Anything involving The Little Drummer Boy. Can you imagine, after all the hassle of finding a place to stay, ending up with a bunch of animals in a barn, you finally get the baby to sleep, and here's this bozo out beating on his drum, acting like he's doing you a favor...
  23. Nah; they were getting paid anyway. Although the Miles lobbyists might have been spreading around a bit of cash; you never know...
