  1. Hey Weizen...if the newbie flakes on you, let me know!
  2. Watch what you joke about...I'd take it in a heartbeat! My stubby fingers just weren't cut out for this trumpet I fool around with, and trombone is what I played back in school...
  3. Including Aric, no doubt...
  4. Gotta agree on both counts. But then, in my ignorance, I have no idea who these famous-to-other people are, so maybe I notice it more than some. As an example, the name Beverly Stapleton is more 'famous' to me than 'Larry Kart', as Bev was a member of the first jazz board I ever posted on. (Wish I could remember the name of that board; it had the damndest layout...) And the hazing newcomes to jazz get when they come here can be cruel. Who gives a shit if someone is so new to jazz that they think Norah Jones is it, or Diana Krall, or whoever? I tell you, a lot of 'knowledgable' posters here look just as myopic with their complete devotion to Blue Note and/or hard bop as the be-all and end-all of jazz. Sometimes it looks a lot like bullies in the second grade harrassing the first graders for being so young... But that's life on the internet; I sure don't see debating it three times a month as being that rewarding. Perhaps it's my moronic attention span...
  5. Ouch...oh, my aching ribs...
  6. His favorite record of all time-bar none- is Ambrosia? And you guys think he might have one screw loose???
  7. According to Joey in an interview on KCSM last week, yeah. I can't remember when; eight months ago pops up in my mind, but don't take that as gospel.
  8. Heck, if this doesn't get me going through the CDs I haven't looked at in a while nothing will...
  9. Had to vote for 'other' as I have a definite favorite: Misterioso. It's the Monk tune I was listening to when my brain clicked over from "damn, that's some crazy shit" to "my god...this is absolutely beautiful" and fell in love with his music.
  10. I don't listen to jazz. I spend most of my time on my hobby, making meaningless posts on internet bulletin boards that cover subjects I don't understand.
  11. Definitely world music. I'm just not sure which world I'd opt for...
  12. Excellent disc. It's the one Stan Kenton disc I have, which is not surprising as I'm not a Kenton fan at all. But then I don't think of this as a Kenton album; it's a Graettinger album.
  13. I say we all post nude, drunk and surly that day! You know, instead of just half of us as usual...
  14. Damn; it took you so long to write all that, I forgot what I was going to say...
  15. This, for example: I'm curious myself; can anyone offer a definition rather than an example?
  16. I have one; a Prestige Coltrane sampler. The wife bought it for me, and I didn't have the heart to tell her I already had two-thirds of it and would likely have the rest of it eventually...bless her for trying! I think 'best of' collections are great for pop/rock artists of which you might have fond memories, but don't want to spring for a bunch of discs. For example, I enjoy my 'Best of the Guess Who' occasionally, but that's plenty for me. Seems a bit odd for jazz, though; it's not like you could do the 'greatest hits' bit, and actually picking 'the best' seems to be a pretentious exercise no matter who makes the attempt.
  17. How the furk did I miss this thing going last chance? How did I miss this thread??? I had no clue until I got the newest brochure today and it said 'last chance', but apparently it's already gone. Well, I'm not sure I would have bought it anyway; as much as I love the music, Herman's vocals drive me up the wall. Still, I wish I'd been paying attention so I'd have had a chance to decide...
  18. It's good, I agree, and those who grow up with the internet as the main (or only) choice for jazz will be very happy with it, but I'm going to miss combing through the jazz section at a local store when that option disappears. And it will disappear.
  19. Weellll....it's a very good album, and I've enjoyed it a lot, but let's don't make out Queen Latifah to be the next Dinah Washington or something. I mean, yeah, it's cool, but it's not a classic or anything. Believe me, I don't mean to knock it; it's a solid effort from a newcomer (so to speak), but it ain't 'desert island' material or anything...

    Jan Garbarek

And why Tony? Che. That's something we'd all like to know; why Tony?
  21. Hey, we'd make fun of the way Americans speak other languages, but....we don't know any other languages...
  22. Glad I gave up smorking...
  23. ...and the master rolls on!!
