  1. Well, according to the UPS website, my set is currently enjoying a guided tour of the area in a truck, so hopefully... The boycott didn't last long anyway; I found a Getz LP misfiled...
  2. Alas, no; just him and a kid standing in front of a cheak clothing store. The LP disaster involved my getting transferred back stateside while in the navy. Our wonderful personnel office on the ship decided they couldn't give me copies of my orders in time for me to ship my LPs back to the states on the Navy's dime, and I couldn't afford to do it myself, so I had to find a new home fast. Unfortunately, while Teenage Jesus and the Jerks, the entire Stiff Records roster, etc. may have been popular in some areas of the world, onboard my ship wasn't one of those areas...a lot of the stuff I had to leave in the hands of a friend to deal with.
  3. Yeah, they sent the thing UPS GROUND!!! Grrr...it's not due until today, but I'm sitting here listening to old punk and new wave vinyl. I'm on a jazz strike until it gets here!!
  4. Okay, it's Tuesday. Where's my damned box!!!
  5. I spent far too many years looking down my nose at the American versions to change now, I'm afraid...
  6. Oh; wait...that's nachos....nevermind.
  7. I've always preferred my niches to be as extreme as possible...and with extra chees!
  8. Ian Dury: New Boots and Panties Ah....haven't heard this one since early '82 when I lost my LPs in Japan...
  9. Aw, that just blows...
  10. Stamps (primarily Danish, but also Sweden, Norway and Iceland. Mostly used stamps, various cancellations, varities, etc.) U.S. Coins (modern Proof sets, plus common circulated earlier stuff. You know, sort of a kid's collection if the kid had been somehow collecting for a century...)
  11. Ahem. What I meant to say is I don't see why not; I know you could still join the reel-to-reel version of the Columbia Record Club that late.
  12. Damn you people are young! Heck, I was still fantasizing about a reel to reel recorder at that time...never did manage to take the plunge, though.
  13. I think the biggest problem with jazz for most people is simply the fact that, to get it, you have to listen to it. Even a lot of hardcore music fans struggle with this one. I didn't really get into jazz until I sat down, closed my eyes and actually listened to an entire tune without doing, or thinking about, anything else. And that's a tough hurdle for most people.
  14. I am not a number; I'm a pregeezer! Wait..okay, I'm 46. I think it's unfair that 0 to 10 isn't an option. Sure, he was banned, but be fair...
  15. What a geekfest! Gotta have it!!
  16. Well...if you consider where he thought he was holding the chicken, etc., it's obvious that more was going on here than preparing dinner if you know what I mean...
  17. If I don't listen to a new CD the first week I have it, it just gets filed with all the other CDs. I'll get to it eventually, when I'm in the mood for it. I'm not going to force the issue. If listening to music ever gets to feel like a chore, obviously I need to find a different hobby...
  18. No kidding; we'd never catch up! I finally got off my butt and ordered my copy of The Singing Detective yesterday. Throw in the House of Cards trilogy and one of my all time favorite movies, The President's Analyst, and I'll be glued to the tube for awhile!!
  19. Wow...I really don't do fast food much at all any more. An occasional trip to Subway or Togos is about it. I was a regular at Baja Fresh for a while, until I realized how much fat I was woofing down there. Like Lon, I'm limited by no car. Believe me, you learn fast that Mickey D's ain't worth walking... The wife drives when we go out, but she absolutely loathes most fast food. So, healthy eating? Nah; I loves my steak too much to make that claim, but fast food I'll pass on...
  20. I don't get it...one's "three day select", one's already in Monterey, and mine's going slowboattochina ground and scheduled for delivery next Tuesday! Do they just flip coins and see who gets 'em fast and who has to wait?
  21. My Mosaics are all CDs, and I just keep the jewel cases with the rest of my CDs, so it's no problem. In fact, I bought a bunch of slimline cases for stuff like my Armstrong, Coleman, Coltrane and Parker boxes, so I could do the same and eliminate this problem. Can't say it's worked that well, but some get more play than they otherwise would.
  22. Obviously Dan still can't read..,. If I don't get it, why is that the last two sentences of your second post effectively restate my points?
  23. Well...I can't make fun of people with backlogs anymore; is that enough info?
  24. Oh, yeah! Amazing!! Truly one of the great comedians.
  25. Sounds like a big waste of money to me. What, they were too lazy to drive to their houses and pick them up? I can see it as a trick, but to actually go through the motions of bringing them on stage and filming it? How silly...
