It's been blazing here in the SF Bay Area for the last couple of weeks. Of course, at this time of year, for us "blazing" means around 80 degrees. So we're loving it! I don't even want to think about what this means for summer, though. If we get up there in the 110 range again like the summer before last, I'll be dying. No air conditioning, running from cat to cat trying to keep them damp and cool...not a lot of fun!

I wish I could share a Yoshi's experience, but as close as I am, I've never been there. Not being a driver means that I'd have to either get a room somewhere for the night, or convince my wife to go as well. Unless Stan Getz shows up somehow and promises only to do samba stuff, the latter is unlikely...

I keep wondering what my wife's reaction to this thread would be. I would hope for "Wow! You're not that bad after all; those people are crazy!!!" But I'd probably get "Oh ho! So that's where this obsession is headed! That's it; no more Organissimo for you!" Why take chances?

I like what I've heard of Brad, although it hasn't been much. I haven't heard Bad at all. Hey, I live in a cave. Now excuse me while I go pound these shirts with some rocks down by the river. (And what the hell is that trailer doing there?)

I tried that before I switched to Sauder shelves; damn near drove me crazy. But then having all that wasted space was maddening as well. I guess I should have just bought more CDs!

Yeah, and between this and Berigan's frog joke, I think we can safely kiss off Mick and Keith ever hanging out with us as well!

All I've heard is that on the Atlantic set, and I couldn't get into it at all. But then one of the few advantages of being relatively new to jazz is how my ears grow so fast (shut up!). For instance, a couple of days ago I was telling a board member how much I disliked the Konitz/Mehldau/Haden disc Alone Together. Well, I hadn't actually listened to it in about three years, so I threw it on to check it out. I love it. So, while I can't get into the funeral jazz stuff right now, give me a year or two and who knows?

Speaking of Mitchell, I had the Nessa disc L-R-G, The Maze, S II Examples on yesterday when the wife got home from work and she didn't frown, turn off the stereo or run from the living room!!! Hey, this is a major breakthrough!

The trick is to grab a bottom rack. Then in the morning, you crawl underneath, hook your fingers in the springs so it looks like you're 'straightening the sheets" and zzzzzzzzzz...

This is strange, but as anal as I am about the CDs, my LPs are just all a-jumble in their cubes. Everytime I go through them it's an adventure. I don't know why this is, other than that CDs are easy to organize. If I try to organize my LPs, I get bogged down in listening before I get too far. Hard to call that a negative, though...

You know, I've thought many times about giving this system a try, but my anal side always takes over. Maybe if my wife is ever succesful in transferring my anal tendencies from the CD racks to housekeeping...

It would be a damn shame to lose Tower. While the closest one here (Mountain View, California) may not have the most adventurous selection of jazz, it does have a lot. I can still find plenty there to spend my cash on, but admittedly my collection isn't as advanced as many here. And what really bothers me is this: If Tower disappears, where does the newbie jazz fan going to go? There's no way in hell I would have just started ordering blindly over the net to get to the point I'm at today. Tower was perfect back when I needed more Miles, Coltrane, etc., and was wondering who these Mobley and Morgan guys were. If Tower disappears, well, that's just another nail in the coffin as far as I see it...
