  1. Jeez...if I knew anyone was actually reading this shit...
  2. Damn, Jim; that's some scary shit!
  3. I'd have to go with Monk for sure. I could spot a Monk tune even as a neophyte. There's just something so...odd! Nowadays, I think Shorter stands out as easily, but at first Monk stood alone.
  4. Claude, all i can find on my CD of Keystone 3 from Chris is this quote: "The sextet is simply marvelous...this is the kind of music making that jazz is all about." -Chris Albertson, Stereo Review
  5. I really like the May 13 1961 concert on Europe1 (with Wayne, Lee, Bobby and Jymie). Great stuff. Two that I find interesting, although some might not be enamored are the Prestige discs Child's Dance and Mission Eternal. Woody Shaw, Cedar Walton and others. Not your typical Blakey stuff, but interesting in it's own right.
  6. Oh, lord; I'm glad I turned my "signature" function back on! Good one, Jan.
  7. I don't know about the others, but this one's been around for a few years. Now the "crop dusting" thing sounds like something I'd do...
  8. Does Amazon still have free shipping if you spend over $25? If so, you can't beat that for keeping your shipping rates low...
  9. I can't speak for EKE BBB and his Ellington stuff (although with that handle, I'll bet I could...), but the 28 Morgans are more of an indication of how nuts I went for Morgan than how many CDs I have. That doesn't count the Reuben Wilson, Charles Earland, Andrew Hill, etc., that I bought specifically because Morgan was on them, of course... I actually have about half as many CDs as you, I think.
  10. I got on a Lee Morgan kick early in my jazz listening, but I guess I never became a hardcore completist. At this point, there's too much I want to explore to get locked down in one thing anyway.
  11. Jeez...do I get my membership revoked for misspelling "Morgan"?
  12. I'm with Noj; you guys are nuts! Don't worry; it's just jealousy talking... My "big three": Art Blakey 38 Miles 34 Lee Morgn 28 But of course, if you add the Blakey's with Lee to the Lees, and the Miles with Coltrane to the Coltrane...uh...how much did I spend on all these things????
  13. Dippin' is the easy choice for me as well. There have been days that I've listened to just this disc over and over. Hell, there have been days when I've listened to just Recado Bossa Nova over and over...
  14. "After hearing Jess sing, she suggested that he try learning to play piano." Sounded that bad, did he?
  15. $75??? Holy shit on a stick!
  16. It took me a long time to pull the trigger on that Capitol set, Jeff, but I have no regrets! Excellent music, great variety. And Kay Starr, too!
  17. Uh...yeah; could I put five copies on "hold", Chuck? I'll um...let you know where to ship them in a week or so...
  18. Now that's advertising!
  19. Hey, like Jim says, what can it hurt to go for it? If they don't hire you, well, you're in the same boat you are now, but with more experience in life. Personally, it sounds like the process itself could be enlightening in some ways, you know? Go for it!
  20. I gave up tobacco years ago and can't believe I ever smoked cigarettes. But, man, do I miss cigars...
  21. I'm sure we can't touch NYC; for one thing someone like me who doesn't drive has more trouble getting from place to place here in the San Francisco Bay area, but we do have a few jazz clubs. Yoshi's, of course, but there's others as well. KCSM, the local jazz station usually has a long list of acts on their daily jazz calender for the area. I just wish there was a place like Yoshi's here in the south bay. But then considering so many areas don't have any thing, I should probably quit whining, right?
  22. Yeah, I hear that Gilgamesh is a real asshole in person...
  23. It's on my shelf and the best overall history I've read. As garthsj points out, his West Coast Jazz is even better.
  24. Just got a recent release this week, having missed it in the theaters when it was out. Both the wife and I HIGHLY recommend '21 Grams' if you haven't caught it...
