Well, that's one problem I've eliminated with my new setup. I don't need to worry about what label to apply to the music. Heck, make that the CD, as Firesign Theater and Lord Buckley are in there. One of the best things I ever did for enjoying newer stuff is to short circuit that "is it jazz?" question in my head and just enjoy the music. This helps. But it still doesn't help the new Van Morrison disc...

I've got the Lateef on the way, and I'm looking forward to it. I must admit, my only exposure to his music is with Grant Green, but as I'm one of those oddballs that actually likes flute in jazz, I'm sure this will be enjoyable!

Definitely the Animals. Even the later stab at psychedelic, although I prefer the earlier stuff.

Sorry; something about the title kept making me put this off...what can I say? Anyway, "lyrical" is perfect. This one is a bit of a shock if you put it on and wait for the standard Mogie boogie number to start, and that's just fine by me. Don't get me wrong; I like the boogie stuff, but it started to seem almost like a Don Kirchner promo formula, you know? This is a good one to pull out to counter the "all Lee Morgan stuff sounds the same" argument. Of course, now that I think about it, so is Search for the New Land, the last sessions, Leeway, Live at the Lighthouse, Delightfulee...hmm; better to just ignore people who make that argument!

Hey, the third edtion print gives five stars to Candy Dulfer's Saxuality. Along with a not-so-great review. I've heard it, and apparently the five stars are swirling around your head after applying a hammer to wake yourself from the CD induced stupor...

Just got through rummaging through the "upcoming releases" at Jazzmatazz (an evil site, obviously designed to take advantage of compulsive jazz fans! shame... ) and threw this one on my order, just out of curiosity and because I'd heard the names here before. Now, anyone care to tell me what I've done? I mean, what do I have to look forward to? I'm completely unfamiliar with either of these guys.

I'm defintely upgrading on Conquistador from my current "don't have" to the RVG. It just makes sense to me...
