  1. Yeah, a big thumbs up to The Name of this Band, but actually, most of my rock is on vinyl, so I'd have a tough time picking one or two. Besides, can you imagine what it would have been like back then with CDs? How the hell could you clean your smoke on a jewelbox???
  2. Damn, I hope you guys put a blanket under Joe's saddle, as hard as your all riding him!
  3. Man, I can understand how he feels. If some scuzzball lawyer accused me of listening to Vanilla Ice, I'd go fucking ballistic!
  4. My God!!! How could these philistines ignore <insert your favorite here>! The grammys are a joke; I'm totally offended! (Just to save everyone time... )
  5. Well, here's the thinking behind it: if this was original music, it would be a different story. You can play Koko on a kazoo and assorted water glasses, and you're making a legitimate statement. But from my viewpoint, if you want to use Parker's original recording of Koko, and alter it to make your statement, then as far as I'm concerned, you're disrespecting what Parker did. I won't say this makes my nose turn up as fast as those Natalie/Nat King Cole things, or (forgive me, Pops!) the Kenny G./Louis Armstrong monkeyfuck, but robbing graves is robbing graves...
  6. How hard is it to be an adult and simply shut the fuck up?
  7. Can we get him in here?
  8. Here's what I got out of the quote, and if I'm completely missing the boat, just shake your head sadly and whisper among yourselves... I'm reminded of my youth, when the one thing I wanted to be above all else was a comic book artist. I loved to draw comics, and was drawing constantly. However, I never made it, and frankly, I was an awful artist. Why? Because I was more concerned with learning to draw comics than with simply learning to draw. I learned all the little tricks that comic artists use, and could really put out some impressive stuff, but ultimately, there was something at the core lacking, because although I learned all the showy, flashy stuff, I never really learned the basics of how to draw. I had the technique and the flash, but the core development never took place. I was all wrapped up in the flower, and the nut, which has to come first, never developed. A flower can be a beautiful thing, but if the nut isn't developed properly, you'll never get the beautiful flower you're hoping for... Anyway, that's my interpretation.
  9. Bottom line for me is SGUD's post makes complete sense. I'm leery of bootlegs, I don't do downloads, and won't unless the artist specifically says "Hey, it's okay". And grave robbing appeals to me even less than robbing the living. That said, I must confess that my hands are not clean; I do have three or four burns of LPs that I haven't been able to locate that others (here and on the BNBB) have been kind enough to supply me. I console my conscience with the honest belief that, if they are ever released, I will most definitely pony up the cash, artist's cut and all, and get legitimate copies. The older I get, the grayer life seems to be. Either I'm getting more complex and maturing, or I'm selling out one disc at a time. I'll have to let someone else be the judge...
  10. Shawn, I'm going through the same thing right now. I've been in an intense "jazz run" for about five years now, and recently started rebuilding the new wave/rock vinyl 'collection' I had in my late teens/twenties. It's a lot of fun, and I'm enjoying it, but after a couple of months, the jazz jones came back full strength, so now I'm doing both. I think I'd pinned myself down to just one kind of music for about as long as I could, although the effort was rewarding.
  11. Bananarama's Robert Deniro's Waiting, and I sure wish it would go away...
  12. Never heard of him myself, but one hell of a poet, I must say!
  13. Uh oh...time to migrate!
  14. Deepissimo sounds like something that follows too many beers....
  15. Is this a trick question? We're not dealing with a "reluctant reader", but with someone who isn't interested in reading the same type of book you do yet wants an "intellectual understanding" of the stuff. If someone was interested in gaining an intellectual understanding of English literature, of course I'd recommend Chaucer.
  16. Uh oh! You must not have seen the post about not asking or else, Soulstation! I think it's an automatic three-warning penalty!
  17. Yes and no. But that's cool.
  18. Brad, I'm talking about why you put the poll up in the first place, not B3-ers post or your response to it. That is most definitely not self explanatory...
  19. I've just started One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest for (believe it or not!) the first time...what a riot!
  20. Yeah, but why? Jesus H. R. Puffnstuff, you won't even be able to see it, and you're still upset that somebody might be talking about politics somewhere on the board?? Give me a break; I thought I understood where you were coming from in the past, Brad, but this is beyond me...
  21. DTMX, that is one of the most amazing stories I've heard here!
  22. So, how about that local sports team? That coach sure blew that game last week, eh? And that overpaid player who's on the news all the time, woo boy, don't get me started! Hey, can you believe this normal/unusual (pick one) weather we've been having lately?
  23. As long as the new word isn't "fuquitous"!
  24. Several times. And what are you doing with that football, may I ask?
  25. (oh this is too irresistible).....like the Democrats would?? We musn't confront the terrorists right?? Well, I guess if you can't restrain yourself, expecting something that isn't that simplistic would be a bit much to expect...
