Damn it, I can't stand it any more. Has everyone here heard everything, or does everyone just keep their mouth shut if they aren't familiar with an artist? Just curious, as I wouldn't know Lou Donaldson from my neighborhood grocer. Sorry...
A few? No. I couldn't stick to just a few even if I limit myself to Coltrane, Rollins, Dolphy, Evans...hell, I can't even limit myself to a few artists!! Is this a trick question?
If it helps, the first one I bought was Tenor Madness...
I won't say that The Rajah is my favorite Lee, and in fact when I bought it, it was more of a "it's OOP and I must have it!" thing. But I still think it's a good disc. Not one of his best, but in my opinion, Lee didn't have any real stinkers...
In all honesty, almost anything would have been fine music-wise, as we didn't have any music playing. However, if it had been a CD, that would have meant staying a virgin until I was almost 30, so I'll pass on that one...
Do you prefer even "The Avantgarde"?
Hmmm....I'll have to think about that one. Maybe compare the two this weekend.
But Coltrane's Sound is my favorite.
Every year on this day I think the same thing: If the banks are closed, and we're not getting mail, how is it that I haven't had Veteran's Day off since I got out of the Navy?
It's strange, and I'm sure due to the fact that I'm not a musician and a complete heathen, but this is probably my least favorite of Coltrane's Atlantic output...
Happy birthday, dude! Now that you're old and decrepit, maybe you can post more; the political forum doesn't read right without your input!! Uh, I mean "properly", of course...
