  1. Ours went out of business months ago; maybe it's another round of "consolidation"...
  2. The Who: Won't Get Fooled Again. In fact, the whole damned album!
  3. I'm with you, Conn! Smilies are just another tool in the vocabulary. I wouln't decide not to use words that begin with "r", for instance; why limit myself to not using smilies? Besides, I just can't get enough of the eyes on this one:
  4. That's a good point, Gigolo; we should probably regularly cruise other boards, just to make sure we appreciate what we have here. By comparison to a lot of boards I've seen (not just jazz boards), even our political forum is polite...
  5. Exactly. Just as some people think an offer to sell a CD for $15.00 or entertain trade offers somehow means that the seller would accept a ten dollar bill as trade. I mean come on, this has really gone on far too long, and I've stayed out of it up to here, but I don't see how anyone can compare a curt PM to Jazzhound's public howling. That was an embarrassment.
  6. The Art of Rhythym is a f***ing bargain!!! On the other hand, Celebrating Sinatra is fairly priced...
  7. I'll never understand people who boil veggies to death. My wife used to do that with asparagus, and I hated it. One day I tried steaming it quickly, and it was great. Fortunately, she agreed, so now I don't have to cook it...
  8. Well...I can change oil, anyway...
  9. I'm afraid I'm becoming a BIG fan of Wilson, and this new one doesn't change that a bit. I think it's fantastic. I'll have to give it a few more spins before I'd rate it against her other mature work, but I've got to tell you: when people look back on this era in jazz in the future, I think Cassandra Wilson is going to be considered one of the giants.
  10. Aw, jeez....I just drooled all over the keyboard!
  11. It's strange, but I loved those as a kid. Can't stand 'em now.
  12. When I first started doing this stuff, I was afraid to touch anything, but each job really builds your confidence. The strange thing is, I worked in the electronics industry for fifteen years, but electrical stuff was the one thing I was afraid to touch. But now that I've installed that ceiling fan in the dining room, there's no stopping me!
  13. My assistant was too attractive and my wife made me fire her.
  14. Edited because, well, just because okay?
  15. Actually, most of my bargain examples would just be stuff I've picked up on eBay that no one else was interested in! Rather than doing a search, I just check the "going going gone" jazz listings. It's only good on rainy days when there's not much to do, or you feel lazy, because it's not very productive. Most days there just isn't anything cheap enough.
  16. I'd comment, but Soul Stream says I'm not allowed until I pick up some Lou... I'm working on it!
  17. Now THIS is a thread I can follow! Come on, guys; I've got my notepad ready...
  18. Damn, I'm getting old and slow...I get it now...
  19. Kenny, I'm not going to give up that quick. If nothing else, I'm too cheap to give up on a $64 set after just half a disc! But I will be trying it in small doses, to be sure.
  20. Having just listened to this material for the first time, I can see..uh...hear why! Excellent...
  21. The Ellington set is pure joy, Sidewinder! I'm loving it...
  22. I'll second the recommendation of the Time-Life series. Dad gave me a set when I joined the ranks of the "can't call the landlord" set, and it has really helped.
  23. I'm sure this is revealing a limitation between my ears rather than in the material, Lon; and I probably should have kept montg's post in mind and tried one of the other discs rather than the first right off the bat. But honestly, at least right now, there's no appeal at all...
  24. Wow. I don't use any of that stuff. I just go to the main board index, look for the "active forum" indication, and work my way either up or down the list. (If I'm in a good mood, I work my way up, from the Politics; if I'm the least bit cranky, I've learned to work my way down to Politics so I'm in a good mood by then! ) In each forum, I go to the lowest thread with new posts, and work my way up. Then on days off like today, I start all over again...
  25. Well....I decided to give this one a shot, and ordered it along with the Ellington Reprise set. (The horror stories of lost Mosaic shipments on another thread made me drop my "Last Chance" plan!) So, what do I think? Let's put it this way: that's the first time I've taken a Mosaic disc out of the player halfway through. My ears hurt. It's probably not the peformance but the style; I'm afraid this just doesn't work for me. If I want warbly, noisy, earsplitting clarinet work, I'll go listen to the local fifth grade band warm up... The first Duke disc is on now, and my ears are thanking me.
