  1. Unbelievable. I'm sure the man experienced racism at work; most minorities do, at least to some degree. But using that to explain his lack of ethics or professional behavior? Maybe from a teen, but this is a grown man. Sign me up on the "won't waste my money on trash from this scum" list. If I want to read about racism from a journalist's viewpoint, I'll pick up one of Nathan McCall's books.
  2. I'm with Jan; I'd rather eat shoe leather...comes in handy whenever I end up with my foot in my mouth.
  3. From the looks of the poll and the comments I've heard, there may not be too many Steve Turre fans out there, but I for one like what I've heard. I couldn't vote for him over J.J., but then that's no knock on Steve.
  4. Just noticed; according to the site's calender, it was someone's birthday today...
  5. Good point. When these polls first started, I looked at them as momentary diversions, but I've learned to use them as indicators of laps in my jazz education. Some names have been mentioned that I'm totally unfamiliar with; obviously there's a lot more for me to discover out there. But then I imagine that will always be true...
  6. Exactly. Everyone knows that big name artists don't moderate bulletin boards; that's what they have brothers for!
  7. Cool! I missed yesterdays Musicboy tribute!
  8. Ah, yes...must make sure to update my files to cowardly sexist pig.
  9. Neon, I've got to chime in as well. I understand the embarrassment, but don't sweat it. We're not going to blame you for the Boy being such a doofus; unlike Boy, we don't assume everyone at your board speaks with the same voice. It's cool. But if you can slap the mofo upside the head, feel free...
  10. I hate to start a new thread for this question, so I'll just highjack yours, Tod. Has anyone heard whether or not Mosaic is going to do the "$5 off True Blue CDs" sale again this summer?
  11. You bastard. I'm calling the FBI! All we have planned right now is a trip to Montery (with the obligatory aquarium stop) the week of Memorial Day, and then on June 8, it's "Jazz on the Hill" at the College of San Mateo. Hopefully there will be further developments...
  12. That's it ghost; you're banned. You know better than to ask that question!
  13. The fact that this poll was easy for me probably means I need to dig back into this earlier period of jazz, but while I like Bix, I had no problem zeroing in on Roy. Absolutely awesome!
  14. Wow! That sounds like one hell of a history teacher, noj; you were lucky to have him. (Shoot, I wish I could shake his hand just after hearing about him...)
  15. Musicboy, I hate to burst your bubble, but the post you keep complaining about was written by one of YOUR board's members that came over here, not one of OUR board's members that went over there. But that's okay; we'll keep him! This is all so silly I can't believe it's real. Still, as long as it brought back Dan's "bouncing boobie" avatar. I haven't felt this calm since it went away...
  16. I think history books from the seventies up have done a pretty good job in being more inclusive, both of African-American history and other segments of the population traditionally marginalized by history. Women, for example. Of course, if you're speaking about history textbooks, particularly those used in high schools and lower grades, their approach is still an incredibly boring joke. (And there's nothing more pointless than a boring joke!)
  17. Yeah, slavery was that long ago. However, at least in the South, African-Americans weren't able to vote until less than 40 years ago. When I lived in Georgia, as late as the mid seventies there were still gas stations with three bathrooms: Men, Women, and Colored. It just wasn't that long ago...
  18. Guess the moose is running with the herd on this one; J.J.'s the man! But I must admit feeling some guilt over passing Teagarden...
  19. Well, neither my wife or I will sink that low.
  20. Huh? They said Ed was "viscous"? Have they no shame?? (Were they telling him to dry up or something?)
  21. Yeah, everytime I see the ad, my brain screams "PILLOW TALK! RUN!!!!"
  22. Whew! I finally found the site that Rooster's "disco squirrel" reminded me of...you think they're cute? They're EVIL I'm tellin' ya! Scary Squirrel World!
  23. Looks like we pulled you outta there just in time!
  24. Well...my wife and I are considering it. Although for me it's kind of like a car wreck; I don't want to look, but...
  25. Well, if you HAD left off Pat Metheny, I guess I could have voted for Jim Hall, either of which I'd take over Grant Green. Green's okay, but...
