CD for this Millennium: Quartet Out - Live at the Meat House
Jazzmoose replied to jazzbo's topic in Recommendations
Pryan, I agree completely. It shook the cobwebs out of my head and made music exciting again like it ought to be! Good stuff indeedy... -
Let's pick my Album of the Week for May 11-17
Jazzmoose replied to AfricaBrass's topic in Album Of The Week
While I haven't been participating lately in the Album of the Week (mainly because I haven't been in a jazz mood for a couple of weeks-been hitting the blues section; sorry!), I still had to vote for Russell, simply because I'm unfamiliar with him and an excuse to give him a shot would be welcome. -
So much for that dream. At least for now...

Maybe, but my sympathy is gonna cost more than $7.50 a day. Maybe we can pass the hat...

Heart-warming story about an old fish...
Jazzmoose replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Okay; let me get this...straight. Dick couldn't function normally anymore, so they put Dick in a sling so he could remain upright? I dunno...there's something fishy about this story... -
What the smurf IS this site???

Whoa...I missed that one; I'll have to go back! -
An evil mind control program from the people who gave us Teletubbies? Or a recreation of some acid eater's synapses? You be the judge!! Whatzit??

BLACK OAK ARKANSAS LIVE VHS +70'S FOOTAGE
Jazzmoose replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Wow...for a moment there I thought one of us was offering their "prized possession"; what a relief!! -
I've never heard it, but I'll have to give it a shot. I picked up the Complete Imperial Sessions over a year ago, then CrissCraft, and more recently Out of Nowhere; Criss hasn't disappointed yet. Maybe I should see the obvious and pick one up more often than every six months!!

Gotta disagree with you, 3-D. I certainly see it as a civic duty. I'd like to think that if it was me being charged with a crime, maybe someone might feel I was worth listening to. You know, other than bitter old out-of-work pensioners who think the chair ought to be given for jaywalking to "teach the young bastards a lesson"... If it isn't the job of your fellow citizens, who would you want to decide your fate? Would you prefer the D.A. and the judge just get together and work it out?

...and then, years later, it finally *CLICKED*!!!

Same here. Shorter just sounded "off" somehow on his own stuff. Now I love it, and the change was just as Rooster describes. I was giving "All Seeing Eye" one more chance, dammit, and a 2 X 4 popped me upside the head.... ...when the fog cleared, I was a Shorter fan! -
What's up with Jim Sangrey?
Jazzmoose replied to Soulstation1's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Oh, I don't know, some strippers could do that....It makes my bad back hurt seeing that, so I guess that was one of the reasons I picked that one...if B3-er would make the avatar option bigger, it would have been much cooler! Hope you find my latest choice more soothing.... Damn it, I still miss Dan's "bouncing boobie" avatar... -
The closest I ever came to actually serving on a jury was for a double murder/torture case. While I made the "cut" for both sides, they managed to fill the box and alternates before I was called. I must admit, it was a positive experience for me; it was the first time that I really thought through my feelings on the death penalty (one of the questions to be answered in writing beforehand), which led to a surprise. I'd love to serve on a jury, but not in a case like that. I found out later that the two defendants pled guilty, but the jury was still stuck there for a year just for the sentencing portion...

This thread is about baseball? What a letdown!!

Seattle/Portland suggestions
Jazzmoose replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I last lived in Seattle in '72, when I was 14, so I can't really help. My idea of fun at the time was just hangin' in the University district. Come to think of it, that might be fun now. Might run into Aric... -
What albums *really* exceeded your expectations???
Jazzmoose replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Recommendations
I'll second BFrank's mention of the Thad Jones Mosaic; I can't believe how good it is-I figured if I didn't like it, there was always eBay. But it's a keeper! I'll add Cyrus Chestnut's Soul Food. I heard one cut on the radio, and had some extra loot that week so I gave it a shot. Wow!!! (What Goes Around would make the list, but I'd heard it and knew what I was getting into!) -
I got my copy a while back. I just thought it was a cool way to say thanks to B3-er and the gang, but the joke was on me: it's a damned good CD! I don't want to give anyone a swelled head (and don't mean to neglect Jim and Randy's excellent work on the disc!), but Joe Gloss rises on my list of favorite guitartists every time I put this in the player! Get it for them, if that what it takes, but you'll enjoy it for yourself!

Ouch! You mean people were actually reading that stuff we wrote? Greg's a media celebrity!
-
Not to bring back those BNBB memories, but Ellington's Money Jungle qualifies...
-
I'll pass on voting; I only have the '50s set. But I'm sure I'll get the Morgan/Shorter set before "last chance" rears it's ugly head. (Gad, I always hated that cliche!)

I knew I should have avoided this thread! I want I want I want... Maybe I can just dig out my New Toy EP and make do with that...

Wow...I have an old black-and-white Game Boy...

Atlee was bad, at least after that All-Star game disaster, but Phil (318-274) really could have done it!
