  1. I wish I could help, but all I have is the German original vinyl of The Music from Peter Gunn. I wish I could say how, but I'll be damned if I remember!
  2. Offensive replies I can see. REALLY offensive things, such as comments about using the American flag as a toilet seat certainly should be controlled. On the other hand, discussions "heading in the wrong direction"? That's what discussions do. They mutate, change, sometimes double back...who knows where they'll go or what might be learned? If you want to be a school marm, fine, but don't think you're providing a valuable service by controlling discussion. Discussion cannot be controlled; either it runs free or it's killed.
  3. Two seperate observations: I agree with Jimmy Gee that saying there is no censorship here isn't really true. Use3D's comments about his "fist of doom" and yanking threads certainly feel restrictive to me, even if he doesn't follow through on such threats. Still, no place is perfect, and at least for now, I prefer this board to any other. Randissimo's use of the word gray in describing AAJ is perfect. Secondly, while it may be true that Wingy/Deep has a vast store of knowledge in the field of jazz, all I've ever seen from him is harrassment of Bertrand on the BNBB and incoherent posts on AAJ. I've never seen a post where he actually shares his knowledge; that being the case, I'm not impressed.
  4. Anyone out there interested in trading their Sam Rivers CD set for my Woody Shaw CD set?
  5. Hey, I never said I could play the game well...
  6. Ah, so we're padding our totals by posting Babe pictures, eh? Two can play that game...
  7. You voted for Love Bug, too? This is getting downright scary....
  8. Don't look at me; I voted the same way you did! I wonder how often that has happened!
  9. Let me preemptively say this, before anyone cries 'censorship'. This is b3-er's and Use3D's board, and they can do whatever they like with it. I agree, but what the hell would be the point in deleting this thread?
  10. Whoa! I've been stunned senseless!!
  11. I agree, it is touchy. But I'm sure glad Rooster Ties started it; this is the kind of discussion I hoped to see on these political threads rather than our usual "you bonehead" type back-and-forths.
  12. Thanks, berigan; I confess to being too darned lazy to look it up.
  13. Alright, jeez...I give up already; I'll take a bath...
  14. Ya gotta feel sorry for the downtrodden masses. People like Jack and Shaq are so put upon by our society...thank goodness they have each other for comfort!
  15. Whoa! How could I forget these? Great stuff!!
  16. Noj, if I'm reading your post right, here's an answer. (If not, it won't make the least bit of sense, but oh well! ) What you have to keep in mind when dealing with issues of "cultural pride" is that the culture of the United States routinely downplays the contributions of nonwhite cultures. There is no need to celebrate the cultural heritage of those of us who come from white European stock; it's already done by the society as a whole. On the other hand, African-Americans, Hispanics (whatever that term means!) and Asian-Americans see their contributions to society routinely ignored by the press, history books, etc. The celebration of their cultural heritage is their way of saying "hey, I count too!" When living in a racist society, it simply isn't fair to expect a minority to react to the situation in the same way as the majority.
  17. I have no idea what thread this is about, but as I have "wingy" on my ignore list over there, I guess it doesn't matter...
  18. Oh, sh*t! I was just at Borders and forgot about this! I suppose it's too late to change it to Sly & the Family Stone's Greatest Hits....?
  19. I agree, Jazzbo; that's what makes Job stand out-it's intentional. In all honesty, Vonnegut (possibly my favorite writer) never strikes me as humorous. I find his work to be bittersweet at best. Most of his stuff (and definitely what I consider his best) seems quite sad to me.
  20. I agree; Good Omens was fun. I'll be damned if I can remember the author, but Little America was good. Of course, I'm easily amused. I think most of Tom Robbin's stuff is funny. This isn't someone most people would think of as humorous, but Robert A. Heinlein's Job cracked me up.
  21. Just out of curiousity, is the Coyote V. Acme essay the bit that appeared in National Lampoon so many years ago that I'm going to pretend someone told me about it so I don't seem so old...never mind; I don't know anything about it...
  22. Stupid question time...I just realized my "Minor Move" isn't a Conn, but a TOCJ; does this disqualify my vote?
  23. Never heard them, myself. But I have to wonder if they sold as many CDs as the Beatles sold LPs after Lennon's "bigger than Jesus" remarks...betcha at least some of those smashed discs were bought specifically for that purpose.
  24. You know, that looks like Ethel Mertz to me...does Fred know about this??
  25. Well, I can help you with the car problem, berigan. The overwhelming majority of women seem to look at cars as merely a device for transportation rather than a tangible representation of their coolness factor. Screwy dames! By the way, I was not insinuating that those of you on the right would have a problem with other races, berigan, hence my offhand "Johnny" comment. I'd just like to hear what kind of solutions to the problem the right has to offer. You know, the conservative take on what can be done.
