  1. Fine words from Mr. Tapscott. I'm in full agreement. Lon — oops, you're right. Maybe I'll end up selling my original Lighthouse cds now ... I haven't even opened the Lighthouse part of the Mosaic. I just blindly assumed the whole thing was McMastered, and focused in on the other parts. And those "other parts" have taken up my attention for some time now! Oh yes — I just want to say that Jan Hammer's tune called "Lungs" on the Mosaic ... I love that track. Hammer can play when he wants to.
  2. The "Happy Birthday" track can easily be skipped. Terrible "singing." The plus to the original Lighthouse cd issues (which are "complete"), however, is that Malcolm Addey did the transfers/remastering. I dunno, I think the Elvin set is a must-have. I doubt Blue Note will re-reissue much of it as time goes along. Cuscuna's been on record more than once stating that Elvin just doesn't sell. Perhaps The Ultimate or Coalition could make it to a Connoisseur batch some time, but even that seems unlikely. I think it's one of those situations where, after you physically have the set, you feel great relief — you have it! Waitaminnut ... I thought this set was already OOP ...
  3. This isn't going to be very helpful, but there's a copy of West 42nd Street here. I've always liked this one a little more than Bartz's other Candid. But the Dameron covers on Neighborhood make it worth hearing.
  4. This music actually made it to compact disc? Bootleg, or legitimate release?

    Red Norvo

This one remains my favorite Norvo. The Classics label is always enjoyable (if not always sonically up to par with Hep, Frog, etc.), and this disc has Betty Boop on it — literally!
  6. Damn, Chuck, what were you doing in Alaska? Or, for that matter, Oregon?

    Frank Wright

Nope. Not to the best of my knowlege. It was reissued recently on LP, though. Same for Kenneth Terroade's BYG session. Too bad those couldn't have also seen CD reissue.
  8. Not to mention making absolutely no grammatical/semantic sense ... I actually don't even know what they're trying to communicate with that phrase/comment/belch.
  9. Just Shelia on this one, but if you don't have it already ... find a way to acquire Roswell Rudd's Flexible Flyer. An unusual, and beautiful, record.
  10. Alexander, when you get there, leave L.A. for last. San Francisco is much more interesting. Chuck, you crack me up sometimes. Almost as much as Lester (Bowie).
  11. I knew that was coming.
  12. Um, the furthest east I've ever been is Georgia. Or South Dakota. Whichever makes it further right on the map. Some day, hopefully, I will make it to NY. Until then, I will remain way out west.
  13. Unagi sushi. Lots of wine to go with. Wife's pulling a late one at work. I'm home with the cats. Ayler's at top volume. The cats don't seem to mind.

Fuh-udge. (At least we have Conglitptious. That's my favorite set from the AEC box.)

As far as should'ves go, they should've reissued Arthur Jones' Scorpio when those America discs came out. That one is The Poop. (Well, I've actually only heard the track "Brother B" from it ... ... but if the rest is as good — )
  16. "... is treated is to make re-use something more special and treated with respect" Um, what the hell does that mean?
  17. I'm still waiting for Columbia to re-remaster and reissue the big band set. The old Legacy issues with the border were ... :bwallace2:
  18. Michel LeGrand's LeGrand Jazz has at least three covers.
  19. I've held off from visiting the darkfunk page for the Corea/Holland stuff in hopes that this period might see Columbia/Legacy reissue ... but maybe I should stop waiting?
  20. Ask Vince. This guy? I guess I don't know the Vince of which you referreth.

    Sonny Fortune

Is the Fortune box set on CDBaby a simple repackaging of the Blue Note material — meaning, actual Blue Note cds in a slipcase, or is it an altogether different format? Listened to some sound samples, and while I'm not exactly keen on Fortune's Monk reworkings, I like the other material.
  22. aka — I'd say Bailey's playing is fairly "straight" here, and unobtrusively so (kinda like Jimmy Cobb), but not really boring per se. Tony Williams he isn't, but that doesn't seem the point of this record. The whole album's never really fiery, but Land doesn't simply toss off solos on automatic. The "modal" vein of the proceedings has him thinking, and his improvisations are, at least to me, full of interest. So, The Peace-Maker is not "intense," if you're looking for that, but neither is it dull. Hutcherson, as always, is in good form, too.
  23. What will be next? And what might we anticipate? Will the "lost quintet" stuff actually see release on Legacy?
  24. Don, I dig your current avatar. That's Brignola, no?
  25. Is this a Columbia/Legacy release, or something more murky?
