  1. I was at some of those shows. I was at this show, surprised to see it come out:
  2. Who's that guitar player on her version? "[Ronstadt] wisely continued her relationship with arranger/orchestra leader Nelson Riddle whose experience and talent kept her and the project true to the sound and style of the material. For his part, Riddle recruited such musicians as guitarist Bob Mann (who'd go on to play for Rod Stewart in his forays into the same type of material), drummer John Guerin, bassist Bob Magnusson, and pianist Don Grolnick, all of whom were veterans of the big band and lounge scene, making them perfect for this project." Thanks!
  3. Who's that guitar player on her version?

  8. Didn't like it when It came out, but I really warmed up to it when I started spinning it again a few weeks ago.
  9. Wayne Shorter Birthday Broadcast Aug 25, 2013, 2pm, edst to Aug 26 at midnight. "We’ll be kicking off our five-day birthday festival this Sunday with thirty-four hours of Wayne Shorter, celebrating his 80th birthday from 2pm, on Sunday August 25th until midnight, August 26th. Active since the late 1950s, saxophonist and composer Shorter bears a career that spans over multiple decades, marked by tenures with Art Blakey, Miles Davis, and Weather Report. One of the greatest living jazz composers today, many of Shorter's compositions -- including "Footprints," "Nefertiti," and "E. S. P." -- have become jazz standards. Tune in to hear everything from his master works, including "Juju" and "Speak No Evil," to his compositional works played by his contemporaries and more." http://www.studentaffairs.columbia.edu/wkcr/story/wayne-shorter-birthday-broadcast-august-25-2pm-august-26th-midnight
  10. That's awful.
  11. Kyle was blogging about this piece for years before his version finally got performed and recorded. I've always had a lot of respect for Kyle, I loved his articles in the Voice. Those were the days.
  12. I met Dennis Johnson about fifteen years ago, had a nice little chat. He didn't have too much to say about music, he was staying at La Monte Young's Dream House, visiting.
  13. I don't think I ever posted about this here... more on Spinning on Air, Dennis Johnson's "November".

FB sucks for discussions. It's not really set up for serious discussion.
  15. Ultra cute and thirty years younger than me. Hey kid, let's go to my place and listen to Interstellar Space.

  19. this thread looks familiar.
  20. the AAJ forums seem to have disappeared. It was a good place for musicians/music theory, something I checked out every day. If the AAJ forums are gone, so is a lot of interesting nuts and bolts music discussion. Sad.
  21. Sounds like the sale was huge success.
